  1. Hi quick summary,

    I am 45 and a uk citizen

spent 14 months in Thailand recently, fell in love had a baby ( i know bit hasty).

anyway I really want to relocate to Thailand and look after my Daughter and Wife ( to be).

I understand about getting the non immigrant o visa then marrying in Thailand part .

    my questions are these:

    1. Once married and and trying to make a new life, is it possible to arrive with enough money to buy house etc and then earn your income from abroad- like i do in the uk already via various worldwide audio projects ( but paying taxes in Thailand)?

    2. Or do you need to go down the business visa road and work for a company based in Thailand?

I have found myself in the position where I have a decent worldwide cv, but alas no degree.

Any other angles would be helpful, but I feel it would be crazy to come back to Thailand and set us up for a fall

    Thanks for your help

  2. well all i can add is when I was last at Suan Plu; see post: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=121278

I happened to be there with my thai girlfriend and our baby ( baby was born in trat hospital, while i was getting treatment-lol)

anyway while at suan plu, the officer told my girlfriend that i didn't need all this medical letter info, that as I was father to thai baby ( un-married but on birth cert)- " I could get automatic 60 day visa stay anytime "?????- i.e now or in x months time.

I have searched this forum but is there a rule somewhere for falang fathers of thai/falang offspring?

anyway good luck with your quest, and you are right-gambling!!!- oh well i guess issan could end up in jail.

  3. ok an update, for those who find themselves in a similar situation.

IN Trat hospital ( gov hosptal) the very honest doctor gave me a letter which laem ngop looked at and added extension for 1.5 months.

Then when that nearly ran out the doctor wrote a letter for a 1 month extention due to the fact that although the cast was off, the foot was not to touch ground for 4 more weeks

again laem ngop ageed to extend.

Finally funds started to dwindle so a friend loaned money from bangkok in order to travel to his house.

In bangkok went to private hospital to learn some pysio etc, doctor gave a letter stating 2 months pysio and then i would be ok to travel.

went to Suan Plu, was told letter is from private hospital ( and i can understand this part, private hospital= cash maybe bending rules to help falang etc)- so you must see our on premises doctor.

Lucky for me once he saw me he agreed with the 60 day extension request

so now I have yet another extension, and I am trying my best to walk.

I would like to say thank you to Thai immigration for playing fair, I know the rules have changed and problems do occur, but there is some humanity around the officialdom.

so god forbid anybody gets injured and has to cancel travel plans take heart.

    best danny

  4. hi.

I got pretty smashed up in koh kong, spent day there until ambulance decided i needed trat hospital.

spent 2.5 weeks there now in gusest house with 1 week on visa.

( crossing from cam I was stamped with the 30 day jobby).

1 have broken leg 2 places full cast on, + broken arm, I find it impossible to move more than 10 feet at a time ( + trat always rains lol bad for crutches).

what are my options, I have a letter from doc at hospital saying i cannot fly for 2 months ( my plane was leaving this sunday)

    any info + costs appreciated

    thanks

    danny

  5. LOL yes thai girl doesn't like it here at all ( cambodia- although i love it sometimnes except the nutters letting off guns in th street -lol_

But I think that as I have stamps from oct 1st till 27th oct my new visa will only allow 60 days + maybe 3-4 more days extension as that would then put me at 90 days since oct 1st

  6. thanks for reply.

Got tourist visa in Phnom penh no probs, I was wrong is $25.

But visa and passport stamped all over with "last time in phnom penh"

do they mean for a year?, the life of the passport or my whole life- lol

    nobody had an answer.

anyway best of luck to all of you muddling thru the various rumours counter rumours and confusion that now prevails at the moment.

  7. Ok I apologise first because you are probably sick of these questions

and also because I had a beautiful post laid out clearly, and then it got lost in the internet ghost land that sometimes occurs ( am in Phnom penh although can happen anywhere).

so sorry if I haven't gone through all the search channels i have tried so far I listed them lastpost - you guys are my last hope.

    so here goes again.

Left Uk with enough funds on atm to travel for a while

    1. Arrived Bangkok 14th august 2006 on stamp on entry 30 day visa)

    2. Left to go to Cambodia for 2 weeks arrived back Bangkok 27th September again 30 day stamp on entry visa.

Left Thailand for Cambodia this time with thai girlfriend 27th October going back to Thailand 27th december.

    My questions are these.

    1. Do the new october the 1st rules backdate i.e is my next visit my last for a while?

a sort of 3 strikes and out scenario? or as this is my first stamp into Thailand after October 1st is this strike 1?

    2. I know what you guys think of Phnom penh but that is my nearest Thai consulate.

if I go and buy a $50 dollar tourist visa for Thailand will I get 60 days or will they say at the Thailand border ""no sorry you have been here twice in the last 6 months so your $50 dollar visa will only last for 30 days"- in which case as you can imagine the 30 day transit option makes sense.

I really need your info and I'm sorry this post is Brusque but, after losing the last post which took almost an hour I have had to hammer this out.

I really want to stay as long as possible in Thailand this time ( girlfriend hates Cambodia)- before heading home to cold uk and messy divorce.

Thank you for any info, I'll check posts later and if PP consulate is a no no, than at least I can take girlfriend to Beach here.

    Thanks for reading

    Dan
