  1. The 3k thairooms are not exactly well know for good door/locks. Make sure to not leave anything valueble there if you go for a while. I found the option to get someone to live in my house while i´m gone best. The house is good if somebody live there and you dont have to worry about brake-ins and other shit while your gone.

  2. "Self-organized" runs are to my opinion the best. Renting a car and going for a run is alot more fun and actually cheaper, even including a hotelnight, than the organised death-runners. On my last run to sadao, i calculated the diesel for my truck to around 1500 baht. The boat is 400 for the truck. The hotel 500 for a night. If i didnt bring my wife and spend alot of money as we did it as a holiday, but instead brought 3 other to share the costs, i bet i will come under the 2000 julie or herbert charge. And thats including a hotelnight. No stress, 4-5 hours drive and a relaxing afteroon/evening. Next day, early morning border buisness and a 4-5 hours relaxed drive back. Stop when somebody want.

One idea would be to pinn a thread. Or a kind of list, were members put their dates of border runs. We are a big community here on samui forum and many of us need the 90 day stamp. Just a thought....

  3. postings that set out to mark Samui as a "wild west island" controlled by mafia with corrupt police, government mayor etc...

Don't you think it's the case?

Noe. He thinks Samui has a good working police force, not corrupt at al. Appart from that he also think taxi on this island works very good. Or at least like to say so on the forum. Not that i beleive for one second that anybody living here with open eyes actually beleive a word in hd:s posts, not even himself. But buisness interests controls what he write.... :D .

    Thats it for bickering.

Samui is more quiet than ever. Went to bophut beach today and my wife said "can you remember the last time there was only us, 10 meters in each direction?". I said "yes, 2001".

mattias i strongly condemn your above post.if please quote me on where i said that ?/? :o

r is this another case of your memory failing due to over nuclear radiation... :D

    for the record:

i have always said that taxi drivers in samui are just as corrupt as other taxi drivers in any tourist destination world wide. on the contrary to posters who seem to relate this phenomena just to Samui ..although after my link last week regarding this i believe the Samui taxi drivers have still a lot more to learn about scamming from the Swedish taxi drivers... now that's a true mafia :D I personally have advocated many times to ban them if they fail to use the meter.

As for the police i has posted many posts about the incompetent of this force however when they did something right i also complimented them.. its called being balanced..

As for living on this island there is a big island out there and its not only limited to ghost road bophud and fisherman village. there are plenty of people who are living here who don't agree with you and some posters have expressed this more then once..

as for being on the beach alone.... well then if you wanted to see people you should have been on chaweng beach and at beach republic in lamai... plenty to go around...

i think it must be some sort of global conspiracy... all the tourist in samui are making sure Mattias does not see them... :D

The swedish taxi example i answered already. Shit happens all over the world. But in Sweden its a rare case. Over here it´s 100% of the drivers. And i think even you will understand and agree on what i mean here, allthough you enjoy to take the piss, and i have to admit it was a cool move to come up with that link. :wai: . Enough about that.

The alone on the beach part was in a possitive way. We enjoyed it, so we are not searching for a more crowded beach. Allthough we did spend a day at chaweng beach two days ago and even if we were not alone, it was far from previous years at the same time. But that´s no complain. We like it when the beaches are not crowded. Like this season.

  4. p.s will be living to Berlin for the ITB in one week so when i get back i can tell you my impressions on where the tourist trade is going.. at least to those who actually are interested in it.

I´m sure your impressions from ITB in Berlin will be very interesting in some thread in some forum where it´s relevant. When you do post them, link me to wherever it is and i´ll read it with interest. However, this particular thread is about samui tourism and you don´t have to go to Berlin to see where that is heading. Beleive it or not, you´ll get more relevant imressions of samui tourism right here on the island. If you go out with open eyes that is.... :o

  6. many people are reading this forum and as can be seen by some posters they get a feeling that Samui is a sh..t

Well that's good... Because Samui has indeed become a sh@thole of the worst kind.

It should be public service to let everybody know the truth.

Yeah. A messageboard, and the use for it. Normal people, not trying to sell anything to you. A community of people saying the truth and their experince of a certain thing or a certain place. When buisness get involved in a messageboard it is as valid as an ad in the newspaper. The benefit of messageboards is that it reflects the truth of the people writing in that board. Might not be the real truth, but it is still oppinions being gained from experience in whatever the board is about. A samuiforum will contain the following caracters:

    1. People that been touristing in samui and their experienses

    2. People that have a buisness in samui tourism and want to promote samui in a different way than it really is

    3. People that live in samui and their experiences

    4. People that think of going to samui as tourists, expats or to run a buisness

Whoever reads a messageboard do it to get some kind of truth that is not presented in the normal touristguide. In the normal tourist guide book they will get the glamour pictures, and the glorified picture of samui. In the messgeboard where expats and people that recently been here, they are suppose to get the real truth, and i for one don´t gain anything in lying. Samui is quiet now. Whatever reasons there is to say anything else i dont know, but since i moved here 3 years ago i have never seen samui this empty of tourists. In december, januari, februari and now even march. That is the honest truth, and i dont gain or loose anything by lying.

Buisness people in a community messageboard? So, with all the rules there is on this particular board that is aloud? It is the only rule there is on most boards i am on. :o .

  7. I myself think the best burger i had on the island is in the mexican in fishermans village. "mexican burger". But offcourse, i´m not American so for me the thikness or size and stuff like that is not a valuemeter. An American might say "to thin" or something like that. But the taste is awardwinning standard. To me anyway.

Banrak, samuipier, did a very good homemade beefburger (i brought an American one time and he said taste was good but the burger was way to thin) some months ago. Now the resturant part of that resort is runned by some french people and honestly i havent tried if the burger are still as good as before. But they where at least very good.

I saw a burger come in to another table the other day when i was eating breakfast at catcandoo in banrak, and it did look very good. There´s alot of places here on the north coast that serve homemade beefburgers. Maybe enough to even pinn a burger thread on the samui forum? :o

  8. You know, I am getting really fed up with the sniping and pointless posts in this thread.

So, I shall make a quick reminder of the forum rules to all those who seem to have difficulty remembering how to post in a non-aggressive way.

Excessive, aggressive posts against other members, moderators and admin; or flaming will not be tolerated. 'Flaming' is best defined as posting or responding to a message in a way clearly intended to incite useless arguments, rants, and/or for launching personal attacks, insulting, being hateful, useless criticism, name calling, swearing and other bad behavior or comments meant to incite anger.

Ahh, dont take it too serious sbk Its all in good fun. But your point is taken on my behalf, i´ll tone myself down a few steps. :o .

Anyway, i agree with beachbombers analysis. Tourist area of chaweng is very quiet to be this time a year, Ban rak has as he says a steady flow of expats. Fishermans village, where i do spend alot of my time, seem to go from very quiet one night to sold out the next? I dont know if they are maybe "in between" two groups of package-tourists? Today all of them go home so its quiet but tomorrow a new group arrive and its full? Spekulation from my side, not facts.

  9. many people are reading this forum and as can be seen by some posters they get a feeling that Samui is a sh..t

There´s the reason why you keep on claiming samui is busy. You want to fool people that are not here. Makes sence. I was all the time thinking "man, this guy must be high on something more than diving, if he thinks samui is busy this season", but now when you presented your reasons i can understand. Thats also probably why you on the forum deny corruption and taxiscams like they dont at all exsist on samui. Maybe infact you are in timeshare or another scam buisness. "Fool them to come. Tell them what they want to hear and get the money out of them".

So, people reading this forum thinking about samui, come here, its the place everybody wants to be. Its so packed with tourists that i can´t begin to describe it. Corruption does not exsist here and all the taxis have taximeters. Food and accomondation is dirt cheap. Roads are perfect and flooding does not exsist. Flying here costs peanuts compare to anything in Europe and the only thing you need to think of if you plan on going here is to book a room long time in advance since the whole island is usually booked out. That goes for restaurant tables aswell. Bring your own chair to bars if you want to sit down. They are all packed.

  10. There must be some laws offcourse. On the other hand, i have to hand it to you churchill, you do have a lot of guts filming people with guns while they are doing something (possibly) illegal. If this is Thais doing this you might want to stop your little hobby though. :o .

  11. Seafood on the beach in chaweng, from what i´ve ever gotten is not that good, honestly. In Chaweng, beach road, (not beachside) there is the open air big place opposite happy bar 1. I forgot the name. Anybody? Its a bit pricy though but environment is nice enough. The trick in that restaurant is to not order from the fresh stuff in the boat, wich is very pricy, but fro their menu. They have nice steaks for a few hundred baht. Offcourse a bad reccomendation in a seafoodthread, but still... :o .

The seafoodplaces behind 7/11 on the lakeroad was very good before. Now most of them are closed down, but the one and only mr "pee soon" is still there. I have not been there in a few months and can´t swear its still good, there´s not much people there so maybe quality gone down. But he do have a good name of himself and are probably the most experienced "chef" around when it comes to Thaistyle seafood.

If nothing better comes up (we are mostly expats on this forum and like said before, the seafood on the beach is more of a tourist thing) you can always just take a walk on the beach. Night time most of the hotels take out their little wood boat and fill it with fish and put their tables on the beach. Just walk and pop in where it looks nice. :D .

  12. I never done it with the buses, i did it with my own car (and at that time i swore to god i´m gonna do it with a bike someday), it is like said before, amazing scenery. Its the perfect biketrip since it is much curvy roads.

AFAIK you will not need any documentation except for your passport if it only is the 90 stamp you are after. Dont hersitate to do the trip, and do spend a day or 2 in ranong (even chumpon if you have´nt been there) while you´re there. Its the cheap part of Thailand and a nice enough town.

Make sure to time the ride on the roads between chumpon and ranong in daylight.

    Have a nice trip :o .

  13. Hi,anyone out there done this before.

Want to go under my own steam.thinking of busing it from surathani to raynon.

any advice please, places to stay, best way to get from raynon to thai immigration post.

Where to stay inside myanmar (if i choose to do)

customs limits and bargains to return with legally (thai customs wise)

have to exit thailand prior to march 21.am on multi entry non 0 visa.

thanks to anyone who can give advice.

Sad to say i can´t remember the name of it, but we stayed in a hotel only 5 minuites drive from the immigration. It was 500 baht if i remember correct (2 years ago). Once in immigration, you go biketaxi (5 minuites) to the "harbor" where the longtail taxis wait. On a sunny day its the greatest trip. Bring your camera! And man, the landscape between chompun and ranong! So nice run.

Taxefree stuff on Burmaside is cheap aswell, another bonus to the trip. :o

  14. I think Mattias is getting ready for the fishing comp :D , he is practising the extension of a long line ,called TROLLING.

Wow, very good post. Infact i think it is one of the better you ever made when it comes to:

    1: Humor

    2: Timing

    3: Value for the reader.

4: Intelligent contribution to the subject of the thread.

You are getting good roo, few more years of practising and you might be able to come up with a post that will be worth reading. Keep working!

Dear Matthias, you'll find that most members appreciate Rooo's posts very much, he's famous for his wit and knowledge. Yours on the other hand are getting more and more embarassing.

    totally disagree :D

in any event...are you all now finally ready to admit that Matthias and I were and are correct? I don't see HD here anymore telling us how ethe hotel touts meeting has announced record tourist stats or that this is just the normal tourist cycle :D ...sure December/January was "same same" :o ...HD silence is golden :jerk:

Yeah, lets enjoy that while it lasts. :burp::wai: .

Allthough i´m pretty certain we will see yet another long post from hd, claiming to bring "facts" on how tourist numbers are great this year. (Don´t be surpriced if he provides some completely irrelevant links to that post aswell, he likes to do that. :D .)

Or is it dead enough here now for even the good old hd to admit and retreat? :P .

I have to say though, for me, personally, i enjoy this highseason more than any before. Its nice to not have the beach filled with tourists, parkingissues, trafficjams, queues and so on. Quiet but nice. :burp: .

  15. matthias i really dont know why you continue to live on samui,i dont think i have ever come across a positive thread from you when commenting on samui, why dont you just pack up and go then you will find somewhere else, and you can start complaining about all over again.

You know you dont have to read my posts right? :o

There is alot of positive things about samui. But the forum is on alot of subjects that are not working good. And naturaly so. Having a message board with people that are just happy about evererything is pointless. Its the things you are not happy with you need to discuss and try to wake up people with. No use in bringing up the things that do work and you are happy about.

But it might be getting time to do a "i love samui because..." thread again.

  16. It´s a Swedish big sandwich. Alot of stuff on it. I have not found any here. Its hrd to make a good one here because of certain things not being availible. If you want to give it a go, you can buy "leverpastej" in bigc and "rostbiff" at angelas in maenam. Remuladsås and rostad lök is stuff you wont find. Aswell as svenska västlusträkor. :o . If you do manage to do a ok smörgåstårta, be sure to invite me, i really miss it also! :D:wai: .

    Tackar!

Yeah you're right it's difficult to find all the right "Swedish" ingredients here :D . As you do point out they come in many different variations of flavour and shape. But I do think I can find most of the stuff here and make it taste almost as home. I will have it a go and in maybe I send an invitation your way :D .

A little off topic but where on Samui do you stay btw? You have any idea of how many Swedish or Scandinavian residents there are here on Samui?

    Zorne

I will not miss that invitation, i´ll bring the beers (if im not dead or 7000 km nortwest from here! :D ) I´m in banrak myself.

I heard a figure 2 years ago that Samui had 500 Swedes living here. No clue if it´s true or not, or if its even possible to check it somehow. But there is swedes around for sure.

As somebody else mentioned, be sure to check out m&j minimart near the old airport. She has classics like knäckebröd, kaviar, mjukost, algrens bilar, gott o blandat and so on. And she is fair priced on the stuff considering she have to iport it from the other side of the world. Nice Thailady who stayed 12 years in Leksand and speaks perfect "dalmål" from what a southboy like me can hear, hahaha! Sometimes her husband is there also and he is a nice Swede.
