    Register an account with Transferwise.

    Then add a Borderless Account (US$) to it.

    I've been in communication with TW for a month concerning how the deposits show as International transfers to my Bangkok bank. They do NOT guarantee that it shows because we cannot designate the bank that they send from. It is a hit or miss issue using TW. Everyone who has been using this system needs to address it to TW so they will give us a choice of which of their accounts to use when transferring to our accounts. Some exerts from my communication:

    "When we send funds out to your recipient, the money will come from our local bank account in that country. For example, when we send to recipient’s in Thailand, the money will be sent from our local Thailand account. Being that the money is coming from a local bank account in that country, it would not be an international transfer and won’t appear this way."

    "Unfortunately we are unable to signify exactly which partner bank will be used, as the system determines the use of one due to a multitude of factors.

    However, I’m happy to raise this feedback to the relevant team.

    Additionally though, would a transfer receipt or borderless account statement work to prove the money came from an international source? The receipt for a transfer would show the beginning to end, for example, showing USD to THB. The statement would show the USD being added and then being converted into another currency within your account."

    Immigration will not allow you to use receipts or statements. They want to see a bank printout only, at this time. Adjustments need to be made somewhere.

  2. I am a US citizen. Because of the IAT format I decided to use Transferwise to send money to my Bangkok bank account. This is a recent message from TW:

    Can anyone verify otherwise? I have TW set up as a borderless account.

    And the beast itself says "Re-entry Permit".

    Whilst the terminology is mostly semantics there are important differences between say a Non-OA retirement visa (from a consulate outside Thailand) and a retirement extension (from immigration in Thailand).

    In order to give correct advice we need to know exactly what a poster actually has whatever he's calling it. It can take several posts to determine this.

    I am the original poster. The post is not about a personal situation. It's about a question that arose from our small Farang group here in Central Thailand. It seems I worded the original question wrong because of all the twists and turns of the responses. Here is the question again:

    For the sake of semantics:

    Job = Teaching

    Visa = Marriage, extension, child

    Permit = ?????

    I'm here on a Marriage Visa, I want to work legally at the Village school. They have to assist me in getting the proper paperwork to make everything legitimate. Do they help get me a "work permit" that will have no effect on my Marriage Visa?, or do I need a "work Visa" and can I have that in conjunction with my Marriage Visa?

    What is a work "permit", how do you apply for one, and how long does it last for a job. Can you just leave a job, void the permit and continue to stay on with whatever Visa you have to begin with (marriage, extension, child)?

    Can you continue to get a "permit" to work a job, leave, and then apply for another "permit" to work a another job ?

  5. Is it possible to hold two Visas under separate covers. For example, if someone has a marriage or extended stay Visa and decides to go to work, say teaching, can that individual get a work Visa and also hold the marriage or extension Visa at the same time? Or is it one or the other?

    U.S. Mission in Thailand to Cease Providing Income Affidavit

    October 26, 2018

    Bangkok, THAILAND

    As of January 1, 2019, the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok and the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai will cease to provide the income affidavit for the purpose of applying for Thai retirement and family visas and will not notarize previous versions of the income affidavit.  The Royal Thai Government requires actual verification of income to certify visa applicants meet financial requirements for long-stay visas.  The U.S. government cannot provide this verification and will no longer issue the affidavits.

    Please consult the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. and Royal Thai Immigration Bureau websites for information on how to meet the requirements for a Thai retirement visa or extension.

  7. I'm one of those people not educated in snake ID. I try not to kill anything, really, but these things creep me out. The dog was freaking out as well. The wife actually wacked it to death with a long bamboo pole. Everytime she went to pick it up with the pole to move it the snake came alive, about 4 times. Still not sure if it's dead so she just flung it out into the field. Can you tell me if it's dangerous?

  8. A friend who arrived on June 27, 2016 with a one year O Visa had his 90 report due on September 25, 2016. Under the assumption that he had 7 days before or after to complete the report he went on the 28th and was told he must leave the country and reenter because the first 90 day report had to be completed on time. He had proof of address since he and his Thai wife were new to the Village. Is this a fact concerning the first 90 day report?

  9. I went to the local Amphur in Chonburi this morning, with my wife in tow, to enquire about an ID Card. I'm 65 years old, retired, have lived in Thailand for several years and have my own yellow tabien baan.

    First I was told point blank that I wasn't entitled.After saying that I'd been told I was entitled and that it was a pink card I was told they were reserved for Lao and Cambodian people living in Thailand only. After then saying that I knew of several (farang) people who had all been issued with Pink ID Cards at different Amphurs in other parts of Thailand, firstly I was told they were only available to people with work permits then I was told that I might be entitled to a 'white' ID Card but that the person I had to see was on a couple of days holiday so I'd have to come back.

    All of this was relayed to me via my wife who, in typical Thai fashion, accepts everything that is told to her by somebody behind a desk. And she gets uncomfortable when I start to question/clarify what she's been told.

    So, before I go back later in the week, is there anybody on the forum that is familiar with the rules/regulations on a foreigner obtaining an ID Card?

    Are they available to all foreigners, regardless of nationality?

    Are they restricted to foreigners that have work permits?

    Are they age restricted. Can a retired person obtain an ID Card?

    Are all foreigner ID Cards pink in colour as this thread appears to suggest?

    Does anybody know if the is a website where I can download the official rules/regulations(in Thai or English) relating to foreigner ID Cards?

    And lastly, is there anybody else who's had similar problems in Chonburi?

    I've had the same issues with my Amphur Phaisali in Nakhon Sawan. They issued my yellow book a few years back but they said it doesn't prove my residency and that only Thai citizens can get an ID. There was confusion with the number 8 and 6. I told them that my yellow book beginning with #6 qualifies for the pink ID starting with the #6. They said no.Back and forth, back and forth until they finally wore me down. I smiled and thanked them. Maybe I'll try again. If you have more luck let me know.

  10. Went today Amphur Phaisali, Province Nakhon Sawan. Yellow book issued in Phaisali 4 years ago and begins with a 6. I speak little Thai and they spoke little English so it was a mishmash. They told me no ID because of the number 6. I needed a number 8 which apparently is issued in a blue book. I don't have a blue book. They told me to go to Immigration office in Nakhon Sawan and get a Cerificate of Residency. I replied that they would just look at the yellow book for that certificate. They had no idea of what the pink card was except for the emphasis on the number 8. Now what can I do?

  11. Had the same issue here in the Village. Neighbors land abuts my house. True offered him 40,000 per year for 3 years if they could erect a cell tower. It would have been 15 meters from where I spend most of my day outside. I was livid, but since it didn't affect anyone other me it seemed to be a done deal. The owner of the land knew I was angry and I told him everyone around would get cancer or birth defects in the future (part of my rant because it sounded terrifying). The months prior to this my wife said that a True Move truck came through the Village sporting those godawful megaphones and was making the offer to anyone willing to donate a parcel of land for the project. Unbeknownst to me the neighbor took the offer. I noticed at the time during the deal being made that True would show up at his house during the evening (after dark) to work out the details of the plan. I insisted the wife get involved and she went over during one of these alleged clandestine meeting and demanded that True provide the surrounding neighbors with an insurance guarantee that if the tower fell down they would provide compensations for all damages to anyone affected. The land in question is one ngan and is owned by the people who live across the road. It wasn't being used for any other purpose and actually had a little bit of "wetland" issues. Anyway, I bitched every day to all who would hear me.

    Long story short: the neighbor (being neighborly?) backed off the deal and eventually another neighbor picked up the deal and now this unsightly tower sits over the road about 1/2 a city block away. It took them 9 months to erect this tower but it has yet to be put to use. I asked the wife what was going on and she told me that upon final inspection by the military that the tower is not plumb and they wouldn't approve it's use. Now this "leaning tower of True" just sits waiting to come tumbling down in the future.

    You know how I found out about this to begin with? I was sitting on the back porch one morning and noticed these 4 wooden dowels, about 2 meters high coming out of the ground with red painted circles around them. When I asked about it the wife told me "oh, that's the new cell tower about to be built" UGH!
