  1. Well i have looked at the screen schedule for TRUE this morning at 11.00am and it says on channel 7 (button 3) something is written in Thai followed by the words in English 'TOP RANK'.

(that is the name of a US boxing promoter and in LA)

    So is this the fight?

I may be wrong, so if you have a person who can read Thai ,show it to them.

  2. OP: Those corn plasters depicted in your image are- for whatever reason- not now obtainable in Pattaya. Though at one time they were.

A pharmacist in Pattaya recommended to me "Collomak" solution. Need to dab it on over the corn.(thereafter I apply a normal plaster).

    The solution usually works.

  3. ...especially such uncreative obvious ones like this.

Pattaya needs more humor not less. OMGIminPattaya sounds like very bad tempered unsmiling old aged pensioner. Lighten up grandpa.

  4. At the time I started this thread I was believing the Skandia Bond was the way to go. Thanks to so many useful, incisive and astute posts- and other research- my eyes have been opened.

I want to again thank everyone who have taken the trouble to post here in particular: worldchild, AyG, Misty, Malcolm in the Middle(5*) fletchsmile, JMS dddave Loiner, mimithewoolf(5*) liddelljohn and everyone else if not specifically named.

Of course any further input is gratefully received.

  5. You'll really want to understand what you are buying before purchasing one of these schemes. For example, you're not investing, you're buying investments inside an insurance wrapper. You'll really want to understand the difference. Examples: due to the insurance wrapper, your money will be locked up needlessly for a long period (typically 5-25 years), and the lock-up can only be undone at great expense. Meanwhile, the insurance wrapper will help to hide multi-layers of hidden fees. The types of funds you'll get to choose to invest in are not great. Better lower cost options are easily available elsewhere without the insurance wrapper. Finally, presumably you're a resident of Thailand, but you'll be getting "advice" from an unregulated "advisor" (salesman) in Spain, on a thinly regulated product based somewhere like the Isle of Man. That's 3 different jurisdictions, and you are the small guy in this transaction - if it goes pear-shaped (and these types of structures often do), who is going to help you? No regulator, that's for sure. I'm not sure why anyone would enter into this type of scheme when there are much better options out there.

Thank you very much for your post Misty and the same thanks applies to the others who so far have contributed. You will notice i started this thread as i need advice about this "investment" with Skandia as i am indeed trying to understand this scheme. The broker, if I can call him that, has not so far at any time mentioned to me that the "wrapper" I am getting was was an insurance wrapper. In none of the emails they have sent me nor the lengthy phone call to me has the word insurance been mentioned. There is in the Skandia brochure an oblique mention per se of insurance, so when the broker calls me again i will raise this issue with him.

Hence and I have made no decision if i will go ahead with this scheme I am seeking advice about it including from this forum.

So far i can find no one who has anything good to say about either Skandia or the agent in Spain.

    Misty you also state:

" I'm not sure why anyone would enter into this type of scheme when there are much better options out there"

-I would be very grateful if you or anyone one else with the relevant experience could suggest such better options. I am retired with offshore status living in Thailand. For the purposes of the present investment I will shortly have 100,000 pounds sterling available. Want to generate and receive per annum a decent income from it to go towards my retirement expenses as bank interest rates are dreadful. Can leave the capital alone for several years providing I get a p.a. income around 6-8%.My attitude to risk is these days medium to high. That said I am not a financial expert in any way. That is why i contacted Abbey, and why I am posting this topic here.

    Kind regards.

  6. Are you considering an umbrella bond such as their Executive Investment Bond promoted amongst others by Abbey Financial Services based in Spain?

If you are be aware of the different charging structures available.

Make sure you have received and signed not only the application form (do not let Abbey complete the form on your behalf) which only contains the code of the charging structure provided by Abbey but also the mandatory Charges Confirmation Form which details the full extent of the charges you have agreed.

PM me for any further details.

The answer to the question is yes and the company promoting to me this Executive Investment Bond is indeed Abbey in Spain. I will send you a PM.

    Really appreciate your help.

  7. OP: if you have AIS, then an alternative to installing CTH is getting the EPL games live on your phone or TAB. The App cost around 300 baht per month.

Also all Premiership games are broadcast live on Talk Sport Radio with the appropriate Tune In App which is free.

How viable are the feeds from AIS please, do they have a schedule ?

Well in my experience the feeds are acceptably ok. As to schedule: look at the premiership fixtures, usually all matches are shown live. Can always try it for a month and if you not like it, cancel it. Its paid via the 12Call top up.

Which beats having anything to do with CTH as AIS is quite efficient.

  8. Sheryl:

May I thank u so much for your detailed and useful posting.

    U mention:

"It would be helpful to know the ratio of free to total PSA. See http://www.mayomedic...erpretive/81944."

According to the Lab report it reads:

    Free PSA........................................................................: 1.15 ng/mL

    Free: Total PSA..............................................................: 0.19

So, in the light of that if u have further input I would be most grateful,

    Kind regards.

  9. PSA results alone are not enough to justify a biopsy. You did not mention levels or if the PSA test result have been repeated or if the current recommendation is a result of a series of tests that showed an increase over a few weeks/months. What is the result of the rectal examination? Any nodules detected? If this recommendation to have a biopsy, or indeed treatment, I would suggest to seek a second opinion from a reputable urologist rather urgently..

In November 2012 my PSA level was 4.86 and end of December 2013 it is 5.97. The rectal exam suggests enlarged prostrate. No mention of nodules.

(by the way I am 63).

    so any further input?

    Thanks the replies .

It will be my intention at some stage to seek a second opinion. Seems at least the meds I am on as mentioned above are appropriate.

  10. Recently as my PSA test result had increased the urologist who I consulted in Pattaya gave me the option of a Prostate Biopsy or 3 months of medication namely Tomsulosin (harrel ocas) which treats an enlarged prostate. I opted for the later for the time being.

    Today I read this article:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2536823/Invasive-tests-prostate-cancer-failing-spot-disease-Thousands-men-forced-painful-biopsies.html

If this article is accurate, no way would I have a prostate biopsy.

Has anyone any input and any experience of either the aforesaid biopsy or instead the availability and having the MRI Prostate scan in Thailand?

    Many thanks in advance.

  11. OP: thank u for this interesting thread.

Does say a lot about how retired Brits are treated in their own country and the ageism they face there. I do query however the comment about the video being fair and balanced. The film concentrates on those elderly who cannot pay for a private doctor, have no health insurance and end up in a public hospital.

Does that typify the average 'retired' Brit in Pattaya???

    And:

If it is typical how do they afford and get the retirement visa?
