I gave NK the income verification letter from the UK Embassy and also statements showing the overseas income...in his words..."i will let you apply under the 40k rule just once and next time you will have to get 400k....because the government wants people with money to stay in Thailand "
-
I have 120,000 bht come into my account every month but NK said i could only apply once for an extension using the 40k per month option and in the future i would need 400k seasoned

I have a marriage which i am due to sign in for my 90 on 12th Dec but the wife is in a mood..when we had problems b4 Nong Khai immigration told me that i could get a dependency visa for 400k bht..i don't have that but i want to stay legally to look after my 2 kids..
-
Does that mean every 90 days i have to go out and come back in again ?
-
Thank you all very much...the info is very much appreciated

If i am married can i still get the dependency visa ?

Does anyone know if the Thai Embassy in Vientiane does a 3 mth dependency visa for looking after Thai children for 1500 bht ?
I have heard a marriage certificate and children's birth certificates are required..can anyone verify such information ?
-
Thanks Joe...they did tell me that in Nong Khai when i extended last March..but i thought they were wrong and 40k per month was enough....
thanks again for the clarification...

my extension is up in March next year......do i have to show 400k to extend the marriage visa also ?
what about Savannakhet..is that still easy ?

Does anyone have experience of changing from an O marriage visa to a visa for looking after dependent children ?
Is a divorce necessary first ?
Is there a 400k bht requirement ?

Nong Khai immigration have told me that my 90 day report bas to be done in person. They did not seem 100% sure if my wife was supposed to come with me..saying no..then yes..than no...?
Does anyone have adefinitive answer to this ?

Can my son leave Thailand on a UK passport ?
Does he have to have a Thai passport or just his Thai birth certificate to show his Thai nationality ?
He is 2 years old .

if i apply for a new UK passport for my son...can be leave Thailand on it ? ...would be have to show his Thai passport or just his Thai birth certificate ?

My wife has a 10 year US tourist visa but i believe she is working illegally in her auntie's restaurant.I have already informed the US Border Control that my wife may take my children.
I COULD get a new UK passport for my son and that would be straightforward but would thai immigration give me a problem? i have his birth certificate and my name is on it,,as well as the marriage certificate but if they entered his id number,,wouldn't it show that he did previously have a thai passport ? how would i explain that ? Could i just show his birth certificate and say he has not been overseas since his birth ? I have called the MFA and they said that if my wife is overseas she would have to sign a document in a thai consulate in US authorising a new thai passport for my son..its not easy.
i have my daughter's thai and uk passport so that would be a little easier ?
I also have to work in London for 2 mths in July so i cannot leave my kids with a nanny....even though i would love to get out of this jungle....

After getting a lot of good advice on here i decided to give it another go with my wife..post partum i thought.
So we had a bust up...she got the knives out again and then ...when i would not give her the kids ..she ran off.
First she went to BKK and now the in laws tell me she has gone to America.
The in laws are helping me look after my 9 mth old daughter at night and i take care of my 2 yr old son day and night.
The wife has ny son's passports thai and uk and i have my daughters.
I have asked the lawyer on here what to do and he has told me to file for divorce and custody. I had a consultation with the best lawyers in Thailand and they told me custody was very tricky..better try that in UK they said.i would gladly get them on a plane to UK but i do not know what this lunatic will do. Her parents say they have no contact with her even though they admit she is working illegally in the US. I feel ostracised and dependent on a bunch of peasants who are good willed but cannot see their daughters violent nature.i am tempted to take the kids to another part of LOS to avoid their contradictions but do not know the legalities of this...
A divorce is imminent but desertion has to be a minimum of a year....meanwhile i cannot even get a nanny to help me keep the 2 kids together....i am in the bloddy jungle....any advice appreciated...do i go to the police and tell them ahe has gone?

Just to let everyone know....most of the advice here was great.
All the Banks said no because I did not have a work permit.
The car dealers all said different things.
Honda weren't very helpful but Toyota let my wife apply for a loan (using her Uncle as a guarantor) , on the strength of my monthly overseas income.
The paperwork took two weeks, the deposit was 15% and now we have a new car....happy days.
Shop around...everyone tells you something different.

Thanks everyone .. are those Schuko plugs available in Thailand ?
Or where can i get a proper BS1363 13A outlet ?
-
A filter for drinking water and washing food etc ....that's what i need ..
-
so make a new plug socket just for the oven running to the fusebox with
with a 2.5mm cable and a. 20A breaker. ?
sorry mate i am not savvy with the terminology and neither will my jungle sparky !
-
thanks ubonjoe.. it makes sense now...
so what can i do if i am not working in Thailand to ensure my stay here indefinitely?
Is citizenship based on work and taxes also ?
-
Thanks a lot for your help. I have no clue about such things and i appreciate your advice...

Just been down to NK to apply for my extension.
My O visa (marriage) expires on 12th January.
I came back from Laos on 2nd Dec and was given a stamp saying 2nd March.
Immigration told me the following;
1- This year i can apply for the extension using the 40k bht route but all subsequent extensions have to show a balance of 400k bht. I cannot use the 40k route again.
2-I have to come back in February and they will extend my visa.I thought that if i came back after 12th Jan then my visa would be expired and this would affect my plans to apply for PR after 3 extensions .
Can they grant me an extension even though my visa has expired ?

Apparently the Smeg oven i am getting has a 13a plug ?
