From Phuket Gazette editorial in 2011
Phuket Opinion: More disasters guaranteed It comes as little surprise that the Tiger tragedy has now re-ignited world attention on fire safety at night entertainment venues in Thailand. However, there are far bigger firetraps in Phuket that have been accidents-in-waiting for more than a decade. One of the most obvious is a large retail outlet that appears to have been designed for maximum carnage should a fire ever break out there.- 8

Not sure but it looks big
Stay clear. There will be toxic gases in that smoke.
Absolutely...Here in Rassada about 5 kms away you can still see the huge plume even in the night sky. Fortuantely is seems to be a column straight up to high elevations. Still, I am closing all the windows and turning on the air, there could be a great deal of particulate fallout as well.

God I always knew this would happen...I hope the death toll isn't too high.

Unless one has access to balance sheets, tax returns, etc., it all remains an exercise in presumption and speculation -- not a good starting point, analytically speaking. Anyway, such constraints have never been insurmountable obstacles in this forum.

Thanks very much; very useful info. -
Thanks for your help.

Thanks Kata, I'll check it out next time I am over that way.
On the Archa front, my normal supplier was out too, but I got a case at the Taa Lek (small eye) Gas Cylinder supply shop on Suthat Road (inbound, not far from the entrance to Suthat Soi 4. The owner said they still have a large supply and encouraged me to spread the word. 476 baht.

My local Family Mart has been out of Archa for a few weeks now. My buddy up in Ubon mentioned that they are out of stock as well. Apparently, his sources say that a new batch is being produced and will be available soon. Not sure how the factory can let this happen.
They can't keep up with my consumption...off to scour the East side of town and will report back...

I think it can be a double-edged sword..
It can be very useful for finding things, but it can also be a time waster.
Personally, I spend more time in here than on all the other social media combined.
I still wish more people would contribute to the events thread, and I wish the thread could somehow be modified so that the most recent event comes out on top.
(I just added two, by the way)
I do believe 'where to find' would be a useful pinned thread, and I think this is the area where the Phuket forum is most useful.
I would also like the Mods to consider adding a pinned 'ride board' so that people driving to Bangkok, Haad Yai or doing visa runs, etc, could get together and car pool in order to save on petrol; it wouldn't have to be in the Phuket forum necessarily, though.

Hard to believe, but I am having trouble finding large, 100% cotton blankets at a reasonable price.
They had some really expensive ones at Robinson's, but I didn't want to pay. I hit SuperCheap today, and they only blankets they carry are acrylic, which I hate.
SuperCheap were also out of Atchaa.
Anyway, does anyone know offhand where to get Lotus brand 100% cotton blankets? Much obliged for any help, as I am not in the mood to go on a wild goose chase of retail outlets and all the traffic and parking frustration that entails.

Does anyone know how to post an image so that it doesn't get reduced to thumbnail size? Oilinki?

I was trying to take my daughter to dance practice, got caught in a traffic jam, then lost her in the huge crowd on Phuket Road this morning as we tried to walk to her school.
It's a pretty scary feeling to lose an 8-year-old in a place where endless scores of people are not only armed, but covered in blood and mutilating themselves and lighting off firecrackers. They are quite literally out of their minds.
Fortunately I found her after a few minutes, thanks to the fact that she has a mobile phone. She was crying like crazy and I was freaking out with anger that she didn't stick right with me as ordered.
I hate to see kids exposed to all this kind of nonsense, but it's even worse when their physical welfare is put in jeopardy.
I have had enough VegFest to last a lifetime, but if you do feel the need to witness it I recommend leaving the kids home.

Please let me know if you find similar deals at other branches; I cleaned out the peanut butter at that one...

I always take first time visitors to SuperCheap and they are invariably blown away by it...

If they are female, just drop them off at a shopping mall. Never fails; just make sure there is a good watering hole located somewhere nearby...

I just got back from the Tops minimart near the Municipal Market 2 (Dilok Uthit 2 Rad, near Robinsons) and found some really good 1/2 price bargains on stuff like Skippy peanut butter, virgin olive oil, cans of baked beans, wasabi paste: the type of stuff you don't find at the SuperCheap minimarts...I asked the girls there and they told me it would soon become a FamilyMart, with the same owner and staff, so they are clearing out stock. I know the other Tops in Rassada closed some time ago. Anyway, worth a look if you have one in your area...
I don't know if this means the end of Tops minimarts across Phuket or not, however.

What drives me nuts is when they allow cars to go to the pumps in opposite directions, causing traffic chaos where none need exist. The worst offender that I am aware of is the Shell station at the corner of Phang Nga and Surin roads.

The OP states that they require "unsigned" - this is my concern. Because every other copy of my passport I have ever given out to anyone, has the aforementioned two lines through it and a written statement of its intended use and then my signature.
According to the OP, this is no longer acceptable as a way the reduce the risk of miss-use.
For clarification: I made the copies as requested, then when I handed them over I asked if he had a pen (didn't think I would need to bring one) so I could sign them and he said there was no need to...so I guess having written that "unsigned" copies may have been misleading. I assume he would have accepted them had they been signed, but with this agency one never knows anything for sure.
Surprising for me last time in was they took my photo.......might have mentioned that already.
Wow..that's discouraging...next thing they'll be asking for medical certificates, maps, and god knows what else..it seems that they only time they ever ease back is after some disaster that threatens tourism

I just got back last night after a road trip to Songkhla, where the weather was overcast but not raining...it was raining when we left on Thursday morning...just wondering if it has it been like this the whole time we were gone...

I'm not sure I'd be happy leaving unsigned copies of my passport with anyone here.
It's always better to be safe than sorry, but for me the irritation is more about wasting time, paper and money, albeit just four baht in this case. Whatever happened to the 'paperless society' they were talking about back in the 80s & 90s?
I would like to give an award to whomever programmed ATM machines to ask whether or not users needed a receipt/balance slip after making a transaction. We need more innovation like that, but I really doubt it will come from any organ of this government, that is actually getting away with spending billions of flood control projects that actually increase the likelihood of flooding, to name just one example.

i was worried about that too..I would advise evacuation if you are still there, even if just to avoid exposure to toxins..the whole middle of that place was cramped up with highly toxic car car chemicals and they even had a fireworks section with no extinguisher
