I do hope you're right. Hoping that all the budget airlines go bust too, so the vile lager louts and swarming hordes of package tourists have to holiday at home.

First big bike I ever rode was a Yamaha chopper that I rented from a place on New Petchaburi Road in Bangkok. I was so busy trying to control it that I got stopped for riding on a bus lane and fined after riding just a few hundred metres.
I soon got used to it, and went on to own a 400 cc Honda CB1 (lovely bike), and then an 1100 cc Honda Blackbird (walking pace to 200 in the same gear, nearly killed myself a few times).
I'd had lots of experience on small bikes back in London before riding the big bikes in Bangkok though.

Can't imagine that will do much for getting foreigners to come back ..
Tourists generally don't buy booze online. They drink in restaurants and bars.

I can remember when Thailand had 4 million tourists per year. That figure became 39 million in 2019.
The place was much nicer and more beautiful back then. Thailand has been spoilt by the scourge of mass tourism. I hope that they never return.

I still remember stumbling on this thread back in 2009 (page 19), thinking how cool it would be if one day I was eligible to apply. At the time I was married to a Thai, but living in Europe. After moving to Thailand a few years later (around page 70 of the thread), I read through the whole forum again gleaning gems of knowledge from old-timers like @dbrenn, @Arkady, @GarryP, @ubonjoe, to name a few, but at the time I was on a marriage visa without a work permit, being employed overseas. Then a few years later, it happened that I met the requirements to apply having held a work permit and paid taxes at the required levels and with the required points to apply. The past 3.5 years has been a series of ups and downs not knowing if the day would ever come, and finally it did!
I know that I have personally read every word posted on this thread, most of it very useful, and some of it sparking the right level of determination to press on. I sincerely appreciate the dedication of many old-timers who regularly check-in and give us all words of guidance and hope. With only a few hundred of us every year, we are truly part of an elite club, that most on the outside can't and don't understand. Even my wife didn't really give much care about the process (though now she is excited that we can go to all the national parks without my having to pay the farang rate that always seems to put me in a bad mood for at least 30 minutes of the day ???? )
It has been a great ride the past few years, and it's been nice to not go it alone with all you friends.
For those of you who are somewhere in the process keep at it, you will make it. For those who are wondering whether or not to apply, just make sure to check all the boxes as soon as you can so you can get your application in. I'm confident it will be worth the wait (2-4 years) in the end.
The process can feel very onerous, and I thought about giving up a couple of times. I always tried to frame it in my mind as a puzzle to be solved, a hobby even. 'Beating the system' and coming out of the other end with a prize satisfied my rebellious nature, so I stuck at it.
Advice to all here is don't give up. Thai citizenship is a very useful thing to have, and makes living in Thailand so much more pleasant.

No booze permitted in ASQ...
The reason being that ’some people’ will get drunk and start acting like tools. They’ll try and leave the ASQ to go out for more beer etc..
It is unfortunate that the rules are made for the lowest common denominator.
That said, my baggage was not searched, a lot of others have also reported their baggage was also not searched - thus if you want to pick up a bottle of something at Duty Free you’d likely get away with it.
That said: 2 weeks isn’t too hard to wait for a beer....
Always the way - the few spoiling the enjoyment of the many.
Contemplating my trip now. I'll bring duty frees and lots of books. Being stuck in the same room for two weeks does sound rather horrible though.

Is having a few beers forbidden in all ASQ hotels? Can you get booze delivered or left by friends and family?

I wonder how many of these flights are cancelled at the last minute.

Christ on a bike! Is that all? And you should always use a capital 'I' to denote the first person singular pronoun.

Can it also fade music in when the missus starts talking? That would be a useful feature.

I read on this forum a while back that the police officer who made the charge decides whether to take the matter to immigration, once a court judgement is made. What action immigration takes is hard to predict.

See that Thai airways out of Australia is unbookable on their website until December, then you can actually book flights. Also that there are limited flights on Singapore airlines from Oz to Bangkok with long stopovers between flights, again as get to December the frequency increasing. They are also $200 cheaper than Thai.
Also getting permission to leave Australia, this can be done if you can prove you are definitely going away for more than 3 months. Compassionate grounds are more difficult.
Indeed, but I think that you misread my post.

What embassy are you getting your certificate of entry from.
At most now you do not have to reserve your flight through the embassy now.
For example the London embassy lists these airline that are allowed to fly in Bangkok now.
Australia has designated repatriation flights that are announced on the Thai Embassy Facebook pages. You book with TG by following these links - the TG website shows no flights available. Seems that Facebook has more up-to-date information than their website.

Mass tourism is a scourge, and Thailand is better off without it. Tourists in such vast numbers destroy what they come to see.

Thai labour law doesn't discriminate against people on work permits, and foreigners are entitled to severance pay in the same way as are locals.
Refusing to renew a work permit is a dismissal, and your friend would be entitled to severance pay. Refusing to pay severance could result in criminal charges against the employer or seizure of assets. The labour court is efficient makes quick decisions.
How much severance pay is owed will depend on how long your friend has been employed. The employer has no right to force an employee to resign.

Doubt anyone with $1M to play with would want to live in Thailand, or even holiday here more than once.
I certainly wouldn't.
I'd like to ask TAT ...... why do you think rich foreigners would want to live in Thailand? (or even holiday here?)
Britain beckons.

It takes bravery for school children to show any signs of rebellion in schools. Teachers come from the 18th Century and think that they are God like and can hit students at will. The rebellious students will have their scores in tests marked down and be treated as trouble makers not as heroes.
Yes, right. Make Thailand just like the western world. After all, the western world is so disciplined and perfect.
I hope Thailand stays as it is - conservative. The western world's progressive policies over the years have torn their societies apart.

Tough. They'll have to retrain in any industry that doesn't cause Thailand so much damage - career changes are part of life, did one myself.
Mass tourism has ruined all the beautiful places, and I hope it's gone for good.
