  1. First, sorry for my poor english and being stupid person.

I met this 24 girl recently, who works as accountant in thai company

in ladprao, I believe i'm the first foreigner she ever met, as she

also says so. She is the nicest thai girl i ever met in Los.

But this girl is creating problems for me, every time i am doing somthing

or giving hints for break up, she shows lot of tears, and i don't want to dump

her before she finds new boyfriend, because otherwise it's hard for her

to foregt me as i can see.

I was thinking if i could introduce her to what's going on in sukhumvit,

but i change my mind, because rare chance of finding a decent man

in sukhumvit and risk of becoming a hooker later.

Any idea how i can make her end up with a nice guy? Please serious

    replies only.

    Thank you

I have the same situation. Very hard to find a nice girl and even harder to find on that gives you some breathing room. Pom yaak sabaai!!!

    Maybe we can swap.

  2. Taksin has always wanted Thailand to be the Hub of Asia.

    His goals are:

    Health Care Hub of Asia

    Tourism Hub of Asia

    Technology Hub of Asia

    Fashion Hub of Asia

Now Thailand has achieved the distinction of:

    Fake Documents Hub of Asia

    Maybe later:

    Terrorist Hub of Southeast Asia

(Though personally I think they will have a hard time stealing that title from Indonesia.)

In fairness, part of the goals have been achieved:

    Cosmetic Surgery Hub of Asia

    Sex Tourism Hub of Asia

    Copied Technology Hub of Asia

    Imitated Fashion Hub of Asia

    Aye Aye:

    Cosmetic Surgery Hub of Asia

Sex Tourism Hub of THE WORLD (Golden Globe Award)

Copied Technology Hub of SEAsia (edged out by China)

    Imitated Fashion Hub of Asia

  3. Slackula,

I hope very much that you've finished my book by now!

    Thankyou for your kind words.

    Another great book is:

    'Private Dancer' - Stephen Leather

    http://www.stephenleather.com/thebooks_privatedancer.htm

It used to be free (don't know if it is now).

Private Dancer is a GREAT Book. Love the layout also. Really nails Thai culture. Love the part about the Japaneese Issan wedding.

Another good one is "My Name Lon, you like me?" About a money hungry Thai ho from Pattaya and her money hungry family in Issan. Good quick read.

Both, should be mandatory reading for the Isaan home builder.

And two more, both fiction, both by Chart Korbjitti. Available Asia Books.

    Time, translated by Marcel Barang

The Judgemant translated by David Smyth (same author as Teach yourself Thai). Good book for a window into life of the really poor.

It took awhile to find a feally good Thai author with English translation. Chart Korbjitti really fits the bill.

  4. :o High season for mid eastern tourists here in Thailand. No telling how many terrorists or would be terrorists are lerking around! This my be the hidding place they are all using. And that could be why there have been no terrorist activity in central and northen T-land! :D

Arab with money = Tourist = Welcome

Arab without money = Terrorist = Not welcome

If you bring money you are welcome in LOS.

  5. I think what you have to realise that when you are dealing with a Thai woman is

You can take the girl out of the village but you can not take the village out of the girl.

I have been happily married now for 17 years but in that time I have been floored several times with THAI VILLAGE THINK.

One was when we had been married for 5 or 6 years and we were on one of our visits to the village

In the night I awoke to find my wife crying, after the usual protracted convoluted questioning to find what the problem was I was told that the people in the village were making fun of her because she had been married a long time to a falang and still did not have a house there.

At this time my wife had not got the confidence that she now has.

So to make her happy and restore face I arranged to build a house and to be honest I liked the idea of not living in a hotel each time we went to the village.

I won’t go into all the prose and cons of house building :D  but I had great fun all the way through the process. :D

Now many years later my wife is much more confident and would no longer be influenced by the low life’s :o  in the village.

She does not realise how far she has come from that timid village girl that I first met 17 years ago to the way she is now.

The strange part is that I love OUR house [in her name] in the village, I think that it was a good decision to build it but my wife thinks it was a bit of a waste and she says that she would not want to do it again.

    T.I.T.

    Edd

What do you mean OUR house? You know the property ownership laws restrict ownership to your wife ONLY. If she tells you to take a hike, she keeps the house and you get zero.

There are always some bitter and twisted people. :D

I wonder what life did to you? :D

    Our house

    Our car

    Our money

    Our life

    Our every thing :D

The basic point "Our House" it is shared until SHE says otherwise. At that point even Khun Fool Farang will see the light.

The Farang has no say and Thais know it. You want to live like that, suit yourself. It's your money (or was your money)

  6. Great posts!  Thanks to everybody.  I am planning my move to LOS for next summer.  Until then, it's dealing with life in NYC.  No fun.

I spent about 2 years in Thailand roaming around, got married there, moved back to New York City, and have decided it is just not worth it!  So...in the planning stages now.  House is on the market, the savings account is being topped off, and plans are underway!  I just hope interest rates keep climbing!!!!

I guess I could reply to the reason I am moving.  I was in Thailand for almost 2 years.  I loved it there.  Only moved back here, after marriage, to try and make a few bucks and get my S*** together so I could move back.  I was never really into the shagging and drinking thing there.  Though I did my share.

The country is great.  I love the people.  And especially the beaches.  Ok, the mountains around CM also...etc.  I love the food!  And to top it off...it is incredibly cheap.  I just had a "normal" sushi dinner.  Cost $80.  Only one drink each (beer).  That would have been $20 at Fuji, or less!  Oh well...

And of course, the Asian location. Being able to hop a flight to so many different countries for only a hundred bucks or so is awesome!  Sure beats the 90 minute flight to Bermuda!

Have fun and keep the posts coming!

I felt similar at the 2 year mark. You have some good points about the inexpensive travel.

These are my observations and NY 2 cents:

People are quick to criticize New Yorkers however I find them much more genuine and nicer than Thais. New Yorkers come off a bit coarse but are generally nice people. Thais come off soft but are generally not as nice. For sure Thai people are over rated, I find Thai people generally rude to foreigners particularly as compared to Cambodia or Laos.

With few exceptions, Thailand is a dirty, and litter ridden. I am amazed how clean the US is in comparison.

As for food, sure Thailand is cheaper generally but not even in the same league. Also NYC has many places of similar price to BKK and much better value. FYI we have a great Sushi dinner, Sushi / Sashimi Combo, in NY for $25. Much better than Fugi in BKK.

Unless you are strapped for cash, or are a sexpat, a move to Thailand will result in a lower standard of living, lower quality of life and eventual regrets as there is no viable long term scenario in a country where you are not FULLY accepted.

Note you returned to "make a few bucks". I never met a Thai who returned to Thailand to make a few baht.

As the commercial says: New York, don't knock it!

  7. My daughter's teacher has asked me to lend her some money, through my wife, of course.

I can't see her running away with the amount of 20,000 baht.

She said she would pay 3% a month interest, which is well below the "normal" rate. I know that some of the local money lenders charge 20% per month.

I am going to give her the cash but ask for something in writing.

I think that she may well be lending it to someone else for a higher rate of interest.

    What would you do?

I don't want to piss off the school, making it hard for my daughter.

Now that is the lowest, unethical thing I have seen on this board.

Bring it to the attention of the school administrator, or ask her to get their permission.

Damm sleazy and inconsiderate of the child.

  8. If you feel very, very insecure and are young you can lease from the wife for 30 years with two renewal options. :D

Insecure is probably the wrong word, as it has to do with being realistic than insecure. Maybe "If you have any brains you can lease from the wife for 30 years with two renewal options." would work better.

Would be best to put it in some other persons name rather than a wife. Best yet just rent everything, house, car, wife .. everything. Then just a cab ride to freedom. Best way to play the Thai game. :o

  9. I worked in Thailand for five years and was well and truly burned out. When I was on the plane headed back to the USA I was convinced that I would never see Thailand again. When I got home I realized that the old saying that you can never go home was true. I found that a studio apartment near Los Angeles cost $1,200 a month. The political correctness was crazy and I didn't have enough money to attract any girl that I would be interested in. I eventually put away enough money to retire early and here I am. Had I not spent so much money on trips over here and back I could have retired even earlier. If I lived in the USA I would have to work until I dropped.

Wondering if it is strictly a money issue that keeps you in LOS?? If you had more money, say won the CA lottery, would you have stayed in LA?

With that kind of $$ I would give LOS 10 - 20% time allocation.

  10. Dear all ,

I had traveled Many times to Bangkok but I always go by taxi to sukhmbit 500 bath.

Well I am a new member of the side and I read several post hear that the taxi fare is only 250 bath. It's not clear to me.

Will you please advice?.Is 250 excluding Express Toll ?.

    Thanks in advancece.

Go to the taxi stand. Get a meter cab. Meter will be 180 - 250 baht. Extra 50 baht for driver sometimes. If you want to take the highway that will add 70 baht. Not necessary late at night.

Be sure to keep the piece of paper given to you by the taxi booth. Do not let the driver keep. Everything is traceable with that slip.

    :o

  11. 'On the Malaysia Welcomes The World programme (2005-2007), Wee said some RM35 million had been allocated to enhance infrastructures, increase manpower as well as providing more professional training, for the purpose of understanding the importance of tourists for the country.'

    Ah yes, understanding the importance..........

1am closing, no lunch time drink with your meal, hassle by drugs police when you hate all forms of drugs and only go to respectable bars........

Thailand will drive the the tourists away.  :o

    To Malaysia and elsewhere.

Thailand will drive the the tourists away. :D:D:D

Fewer tourists coming to Thailand is great news for the Farang.

Less crowds, better exchange rates, more rooms available, all positives for Khun Farang.

Malaysia's Gain = Thailand Farang Gain

Yes, from deductive logic you can now see: Thailand's loss is the Farang's Gain and vice versa. If Thailand got 20 MM tourists they would (continue to) kick out Farangs and close down Farang venues.

Fortunately, they are slow learners and the numbers will continue to drop. Baht per $ going to 50+ once again. YIPPIEEEEEE!!!!! Looking forward to seeing that look of complete amazement on all the ministers faces.

  12. read the thread! she has an income, 10,000 baht a month. which round here is about twice the average salary.

I got her a job in a restraunt via a business partner...she is practically running the place now...she gets half price food.

she does not have to wait for me to decide anything, she has independance and lots more confidence than when i first met her.

    does this answer your question??

To the Farang, you have helped her immeasurably. To the Thai it is meaningless ... kii neao.

You have money too much, why I have to work??

In Thailand, a hand out is better than a job anusually pays better.

  13. Thaipwriter,

    el commentaro:

If I read correctly, you have been in LOS for only 5 - 6 months. You bought a house which IMO is a permanent "investment" as you cannot sell it (who will buy?). If you can sell it do so ASAP. Undo some of the mistakes at a loss if necessary. Do not discuss with "her"

You are 36? Too young to retire. Too young to get married..... will lead to loosing the house when you get sick of her and her you.

The relationship is unstable as is she.... how about you?

Learn about Thais ...... Read Private Dancer, you sound like the main character.

Learn about Thai women ....... Read My name Lon, You like me

Pattaya, the beach resort without a beach

Take it or leave it ... lao tai khun

    Chookdee ... yai yai

  14. That feeling you have when your on holiday, but living that same feling every day... sunshine, and......my much maligned relationship with a Thai lady.

    But especially affordable housing :o  :D  :D

    my place....

    plot17.jpg

I thought the missus had hoofed you out and moved the village in?

Nice house, legally yours or hers? Legally, I would guess there is no ours with farangs.

Where is that Pattaya? How are the schools and neighbors?

  15. I'm here cause I found a nice sweet lady and I can't bear to be away from her. What's your real reason. Be honest

LOL.... How long are you planning on staying?

Thailand only works for me in short doses. 2 - 3 months on 2 - 3 months off. I have taken what for me is a realistic view of the LOS. Enough positives for a good 2 - 3 month SEA hub. Would not want to call it my home, too many negatives. This year, after Oct - Dec in SEA, I will try Argentina for Jan - Feb.

  16. I was just wondering how many Thai words you know?  Also how long has it taken for you to remember all these?

Do you have any tips for people learning the language, which are the main words to learn first, things like that.

P.S  I heard from some (Michael Thomas)  A world famous language teacher that we only use say 300 or less words daily, not even that.  A big newspaper in the New York area counted and had just under 300 words in the paper.

    Hope you liked that :o

IMO 300 words is not enouigh.

I have about 1500 over 5 years. Enough to get by but and for a good chat but not enough for a business or political discussion. I can read childrens books, not newspapers.

If you get the basic sentence structure, the vocabulary will follow.

  17. My wifes UK Visa was refused yesterday ECO Stephen Clarke and of course I am livid for the reasons given.

I only read the OP not the thread. A few points:

First, they told you no and you went ahead anyway. Right or wrong you will have trouble with them.

Second, maybe they have some information on her you are unaware of.

Lastly, The UK may believe they have "enough Thais" already and there may be a suttle effort to limit the number of Visas to Thais for "obvious reasons." Nothing would surprise me about governments.

Maybe buddy up to some of the sexpats working at the British Embassy, of which there are many. :o

  18. Normal girls give you the same amount of shit and hassle as "bad" girls do.

You just expect it with the "bad" girls.

Met a girl in Siam through a friend a couple of weeks ago.  Chatted a while, arranged a date later.  Went to KSR on Friday night to meet her again at 9.30.  9.40 I phone her to ask where she is.  Still in taxi she says, be there in 15 minutes.

10.05 get message from her saying she is still in the taxi.

10.45 I give up and go home.

    10.55 I get a message from her

"I arrive now where are you?"

I reply that I am going home as I dont wait 70 minutes for anyone

she replies "i sorry I come late, why you do this to me?"

And for the record, when I first phoned her I could hear the tv in the background.  the silly bitch hadnt left yet.  And to top it all, I had got a phone call from a sure thing girl that afternoon  and turned her down for this "good girl" :o  so I missed out on a happy ending both ways.

Back to the point now.  Find a girl - then lable her good or bad by her actions, not area.

    Aye Aye

I think it has to do with both the guys and girls.

The guys, by and large, are clueless ######s. They will never get a "good girl".

The good Thai girls, by and large, are not very "good". In farangland they are called hookers, at best. They will never actually qualify as a "good girl" as dreamed about by the ######.

    So the circuitous debate continues.
