Readers of Travel and Leisure Magazine recently voted Bangkok 2nd best city in the world, behind Sydney. I personally can’t stand it for more than 5 minutes. Have I missed something?
Chiang Mai came in fifth:
http://www.travelandleisure.com/worldsbest....cfm?cat=cities
My choice: Barcelona.
Barcelona is a gem.
If you want cheap then I would rank BKK #1. Cheap hotels, cheap food, cheap hos.
You want quality, BKK is not in top 10 or even top 100.
CHEAP! This is Bangkok.

Sad story.
Another reminder not to let your 15 year old out at 2 am. In this case some poor judgement on the part of the parents with disasterous consequences.
Letting the drunk driver out is a disgrace.

Just another example of how inappropriate Thailand is for vacationers.
Monger Heaven is the Hallmark.
WISDOM!
-
When I told him this he said that I had a bad attitude, also said that I wasnt the same person I was before I relocated to Thailand, he hasn’t spoke to me since !
Recently my TGF seen her in a bar in Patong, she asked her if she still had contact with my mate, she replied "Yes, he send me money, now I have 2 guys send me money, 1 English & 1 German" ! Yep, it seems you cant even help these people !
Heres to a change for the better and a living life with a "bad" attitude !

Don't forget that there is a large-ish group of farangs in Korat for one particular reason: Muay Thai training. It is one of the better centres for learning kickboxing, and I have a couple of farang friends in Kolat doing just that. So let's o with Teachers, alcoholics and then Fighters.
A substancial intellectual center.
Possibly a mini silicon valley emerging

Jeez you are soooo subtle Luckless Larry
What does my post have to do with luck?
Makes no sense
Come on Dr. I'm counting on you for wisdom here!

The "relative in XXXX European country" always means visiting another client. There are no relatives in Europe for 99.999999999% of these bar workers.
Are you sure about that number?
I lost track of the nines but I think it may be a little low.
-
I guess you'll have heard all this before but I just want to know where I went wrong - if I went wrong.
I met this beautiful girl in a Pattaya bar, where she was a dancer ......
blablablablabla [enter sad story here]
Anyone had a similar experience?
Pattaya bar, where she was a dancer ... I think your clue is right there friend.
Everyone has had a similar experience with the "bar girls" a.k.a. whores. She is a whore and played the part perferctly which, I am sorry to say, means playing you.
If you want a good sanity check, think about how you would tell your family where you met the "girl". And don't fall for the sex tourist lingo "bar girls". At least in your own mind know if you are with a whore. This should keep you out of some trouble.
On the bright side, you are now an offical Thailand tourist.
KNOW THE GAME

I'm interested in learning Thai, but it's just so difficult....
The Thai alphabet is so difficult... Not to say how to read, speak and write
Sounds like you are interrested in speaking Thai but not too interrested in studying Thai.
Try the book "Easy Thai"
Not the best but the title works.

I did a search on ways to work on the internet.
What I got seemed like a con. Telling me that I could earn up to $100, but first I had to buy some book.
Has anyone here ever made money on the internet?
NN
Yes, I have made a considerable amount of money on the internet. In fact I have written a book detailing every step.
Your Price: $100 or 2 for $300

The US has criticized Thailand saying there is not a totally free press.
I don't doubt that, but how bad is it? Has it gotten worse recently?
I am impressed with The Nation newspaper, especially their editorial section, in regards with being able to openly criticize the current government in power.
The Nation is read by some Thais too, I would imagine.
Are there Thai language papers that feel free to be as openly critical as The Nation, or is that paper an exception?
Well if you are critical (objective in my view) about Thailand on this TV site you get suspensions.
What does that tell you.
Oh, almost forgot; The US is critical of everything. Should mind their (our) own ###### business.
KL from NYC!!

Maybe a farang helpline is the perfect job for the original poster when he returns to Thailand.
However, not sure he'd be able to talk me out of suicide with his tales of woe...
Sounds like a great feature for the new THAI VISA CARD

Examples..... There are a huge number of high class restaurants of every taste and nationality available to you. There a re a large number of International Hotels available which offer the best service and food in the world.
best service and food in the world.
BALONEY. NO WAY
best service and food in Thailand. This is more realistic.
Food is OK but not great. Value is good. The best food and service requires smarts and a desire to apply the smarts to please the CUSTOMER. Both are lacking in Thailand and Thailand restaurants.

If one were to spend every day at a sleazy strip club in Farang Land they might feel like it was time for a jump as well.
Such is Thailand.
-
Better to rent in Thailand. Rental rates are much less than purchase carrying costs. I recommend you do not put more than 10 - 15% of your net into BKK real-estate.
There will soon be a huge glut of units on the market. Prices will drop and the baht / $$ will go up duai.
Sit tight. You will save 25%
-
Easy with the criticism.
It was my first day behind the wheel.
-
Looks about as good as any. Many will like the location.
When finished, there will be a glut of rentals on the market as always. Probably rent for $1000 - 1500 / month, furnished. Definitely not the same ROI as in the West.

Just another "Thailand Tale" of a rude inconsiderate host country
Classic Thailand

What is wrong with Korat?
I am visiting this city since 1977 and now I am living there permanently.
There is more in the world than the bar scene
Please enlighten us.
Can't imagine living in Korat. 1 - 2 days OK, 1 week max. Been there, done that, next.
-
Try going to places where you'd pick up girls in your own country - it's not rocket science.
Right.
Name one place.
-
Been to BKK twice now were can you meet girls that are not bar girls. Do girls go out as a group socialy there must be some out there who are not on thr earhole for money.
You have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding the prize you seek. Any information to the contrary is highly biased or foolish.
Best of luck.

Thailand Expat Card sample:
Note: No Thai work permit required - No credit check ups - No credit reporting
Some of the mentioned sponsors and partners are still under negotiations. We reserve the rights to change card functionality, design etc.
This sounds like a great idea. I am generally cynical about financial institutions, especially those run by US banks.
I would like to see a credit card which is designed for the user. However, this seems to conflict with the spirit of the financial community.
First, no additional fees for using it in Thailand. Visa is a big rip off to the merchants, 2 - 5% charge, so outside the US many places charge when you use your VISA card 2 - 5%.
Second, No annual fee / joiner fee and reasonable interest rates. Why do they charge 20% when prime is 5%?
Can it be used to pay off the boys in brown?
If I can get a $25,000 limit I can buy a Privilege Card
Also FYI, the newest "technology" is to convert to your local currency at point of purchase. This is done at a 2 - 3% additional fee and sub-par exchange rates. So be careful when checking out, especially from an American hotel.

Here is a question and poll , could you visit on holiday or live in LOS and remain totally celibate and temperant ?
Could you stay totally clean ??
No women and no beer or alchohol ??
What would be the point of the visit. May as well go to the Middle East.
IMO damm near 100% of tourists are sex tourists and / or alcoholics
Why else choose LOS? Food... lol, weather?
Helloooooooooooooooo!

In the US happy hour is always (in my experience) based on the time shown on the bar clock. Stop whining....this means you can start 15 min. early!!!!
If you are sayin a bar clock in the US that is 15 min fast is acceptable your mistaken

For sure Thailand has learned exactly nothing and will repeat their mistakes. Thais know everything so they cannot learn more.
Conservation of knowledge... can not exceed 100%.
