  1. one of the sneaky ways is they put the Thai price in Thai script numbers ,  of course we have no idea  since we cannot read those numbers !

Not much you can do about it , even if you do know the scam !

OHHH and never take a taxi sitting in front of your Hotel , stop a moving Taxi with its light on.....

if they ask you "how much you pay ? " tell them METER..........and wait for the next  one.......

I don't even say Meter, I just walk away. They don't deserve a response
  2. One reason for quitting Thailand (mine) is the simple fact that it has become ever more dangerous to live here.  You travel by bus, car, van and (God help you) motorcycle, you are dicing with death.  You walk places....being a pedestrian in towns and cities without sidewalks/pavements, you need always to be on the look out for drivers who are (as far as you can tell through the black glass) apparently consulting their cell phones.  As a pedestrian, walking under all those millions of bunched electricity wires, you wonder when you will be electrocuted.  (How do they ever distinguish one line from another??)
And firearms appear to be easier to come by here than in the Home of the Free.  And they are used indiscriminately.
So, no, I am quitting asap.

They are not electrical wires with enough voltage to kill. Obviously
  3. A box of Leo lasts me a week, that's about 80b per day. Hardly a big expense

Brewing your own moonshine would come in well under that but I was actually referring to drinking outside the condo.

Drinking 4 bottles of Leo a day is not drinking lol
  4. Biggest expense is alcohol and I'm not talking about a glass of wine with dinner.

Mongering comes second. The expats here are not 20 year old jack rabbits. So the odd one here or there should suffice

The above is based on housing and necessitys are already taken care of

  5. My wife and I consider ourselves as normal, decent and hard-working people and moved to Thailand just over two years ago from China - a country (and nationality) that I thought it would be impossible to surpass it terms of overt and systemic racism. I was badly mistaken. Thailand sets new and unparalleled levels of 'anti-foreigner' sentiment that are nothing short of disgraceful. Their attitude towards foreigners living. working and actually surviving (ie visa requirements, work permits/SME business requirements etc) and the constant and continuously destructive malaise of corruption you have to deal with here have made our lives an utter nightmare.

On top of this, we have encountered some of the most despicable and ruthless criminals, scam-artists, con-men and total liars we have ever met in our lives! We have been defrauded out of our house and all our life savings by greedy, heartless (and convicted) crooks, openly aided by corrupt local government agencies, lawyers and the parlous legal system here.

So with due respect to 'General Prat' and his cohorts exaltations about 'Good guys in, Bad Guys out' - what complete tosh! I am convinced that Thailand's powers that be warmly welcome the most undesirable scurrilous and evil people to Thailand as they know that it will be to their own mutual benefit. (they will make more in bribes, pay-offs and so on from all these crooks etc!) Meanwhile, good honest people continue to suffer and pay the price for trying to make a valuable contribution to Thai society.

If it weren't for the fact that we are virtually bankrupt and have no money to escape this total shithole - my wife and I would have left the day after we arrived here!

I dont buy your story. You and your wife just sound like a couple fools if it's true so you can only blame your selves and you know what they say a out fools and money? But please don't trash thailand because you screwed up, it takes a special level of silliness to lose everything

  6. You have to know that the majority of expats are elderly. I will leave it to you to work out the challenges that may arise from arthritis, bad knees etc.

Listen pal my grandad cleaned his house with 1 leg for 35 years after ww2 so give me that "I'm old" catchphrase.

OMG I m speechless, what a horrible family. No way I would let my grandad hop around on one leg trying to clean his house. Shameful!

  7. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=fcc_1402018647 Video

US expat Gregory 'Greg' Miller, from Madison, Wisconsin, who previously worked as a teacher in various schools in Thailand, was on 14th November 2013 sentenced to 38 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine year old boy on ten occasions between January and June 2012.

In passing sentence the presiding Judge said that Miller's conduct over such a long period and repeatedly sexually assaulting such a young child justified an extremely harsh sentence. The sentence is one of the highest ever imposed in Thailand for this type of offence - the maximum penalty for the offence is life imprisonment.

Greg Miller was arrested in Pattaya in June 2012, and subsequently pleaded guilty on 28th October 2013 to sexually assaulting the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Miller was sentenced on 14th November 2013 to 38 years in prison, and is currently in Rayong Prison, near Pattaya.

Miller is suspected of sexually assaulting at least five other boys, all under the age of 12. Following his arrest evidence came to light that Miller was stalking young boys and video taping them at school functions.

  8. I love Bangkok and why would I want to go out when I have a condo full of good food good booze hot chicks and me kali

now the pubs are closed so many beautiful gals begging to come and party at my pad

Thailand we love u forever and God bless Prayuth and his heroes AMEN

Bizarre - so you need a curfew to get girls back to your condo ? You have to be seriously ugly to have a problem like that !

+1 that wins weirdest post of the day.

  9. Tramadol. I'm not concerned about buying it, I'm concerned about leaving the country to the next posting for a few months and being questioned about it in various airports. I've been to hospitals in BKK for sleep meds and they'll happily right up a prescription. I don't understand how people buy this stuff "under the table" and then cross international borders.

But I'm assuming Bumgrungrad or similar hospitals would charge an arm and a leg for sitting down with you, when the smaller hospitals might not. Is that the case?

Your in luck I have just recently approached about 10 drug stores including my 2 regulars in Bangkok and was shocked to find out that its now on the "control substance" list and not in stock any more

bad news for people with pain. Here is the deal

You can not buy from a drug store, period.

You can only get them at the hospital as an inpatient
