As normal the Chinese think they are superior beings and can do what they like. Look at Cambodia, it will be the same here in time unless Government policy towards them changes. Which of course is highly unlikely.
People warned about the condo fiasco when Thai property developers started aggressively marketing them in China as investment opportunities. There are far too many sold empty condo units and not enough longer term renters around to fill them, so this short term fiasco is the result....and the developers are still building new condos. Crazy.
Thailand is doomed if they start to allow Casinos.

Wait and see.
I am not a gossip monger..I was told this by someone who is in a position to know things.
The same person told me over 15 MONTHS ago about meetings being set up re healthcare insurance becoming mandatory
Sent from my SM-G7102 using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
I expected this as every contact with the UK embassy asked if I had health insurance, obviously a survey.

If you are overseas and not there to personally take someone into your property, I can see that.
I fail to see how it is enforceable though when an owner escorts renters to a property, airbnb or not.
I used to live in a condo in On Nut where they actually enforced the rule. See the image I posted above. The juristic staff and security staff were applauded. We were fed up with groups of young westerners coming for a week at a time, partying all night, no respect for others, making a terrible mess in and around the pool etc. It stopped after one owner was dealt with (I have no idea how but can guess) and the message to other owners was clear.

As to property rights, how about other owners that live there and deserve security and use of common areas without crowds of short term partiers and holiday makers. The condo is their home, not a hotel.

My wife just told me about this and I explained that when DUI was a big problem in the UK friends were urged to take the car keys from people who were drunk and about to drive. She said 'oh thats a good idea but more people will be shot than die on the roads if they tried that here.'
I had to agree.

Strange old world. I have lived in in Thailand for 15 years now (Tourist then Work Permit and now Retirement). I live with my Thai g/f now and have done for over 3 years (rented house). She has had 2 visit visas for the UK in that time and had no issue with both applications. She doesn't work and her only assets are a car. Her only 'income' is what I give her every month as a housewife (25k). I think the issue with the OP is that he lives in the UK. Their relationship is probably seen as sound but what is in her life for her to return to Thailand ?

We're down in BKK so obviously I can't comment on what's going on directly.
What sort of period are you seeing the fluctuations?
Short (seconds) LV fluctuations are very often caused by local load variations. Is anyone building a house in the village, those welders can play havoc with your nice even supply.
Longer period changes (several minutes or hours) are more likely due to management of the HV system.
Not really a lot you can do unless the ups and downs are big enough to warrant getting an AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator).
Ah, could be the spot welding. The swings are very short. They are building houses about 50m and 200m away and are putting in metal beams on the roofs. Thanks for that.

I have noticed that most mornings the mains voltage level supplied to my house in Rop Wiang fluctuates from 195 to 203. However today it has been fluctuating all day and still is. Is this prevalent across Mueang Chiang Rai ? Anyone know why?
Normally it goes up to 219-225 from about 12 noon onwards but today it hasn't.
My UPS's are going haywire 55555. I thought it might be a UPS but I have 3, they cant all go wrong at the same time surely.

Not condoning the actions of the truck driver one bit, but had the bike rider been looking ahead he would easily have seen and anticipated what the truck was going to do and reacted accordingly. But....

When you come out of arrivals turn left, walk to the end of the building, go through the door and taxis can be found there. Don't go with the touts or out the main door or you will pay well over the odds.

If true, it's fair to say that many Indians won't be coming...
You are right ! I was a regular customer at a beer bar in the Sukhumvit 22 area of Bangkok which had a notice on the door ' No Indians Please' . I also remember being in a go go bar on Soi Cowboy when 7 Indian's came in and sat and watched the girls and making lurid and suggestive actions towards them, they didn't buy a drink until the Mamasan insisted they did, they bought one coke and shared it among all of them. They were forced out of the door....
Of course this is just 2 examples but they support the comments from SammyT. But I am sure TAT were not talking about Indian sex tourists.....

Bangkok Bank in London does not offer retail bank accounts to private customers.
Well that must be a new rule of theirs as a few years ago it was possible if you had a bbl account at a Branch in Thailand.

On the face of it, this looks EXTREMELY worrying for British retirees here. The irresponsible action of the British embassy in not confirming a retiree's income flow could be the death knell for many Brits here. Also, as far as I understand it, the British Government will not send pensions into a Thai bank account (only into a British one), and not every British bank will automatically forward a pension to a bank account in Thailand every month. Maybe I am wrong.
Perhaps it is not as bad as I fear. What do other members think?
I get my pension from the UK paid directly to Bangkok Bank and have done for years. I do not have a UK account. Another way is to open an account at the Bangkok Bank branch in London and put your pension in there, they will forward to a BBL Bangkok.

This video is sickening to watch but it is certainly a valuable awareness tool.
My Thai wife and I showed the video to her 13 year old sister who wonders why her family won't buy her a scooter. She shrugged her shoulders and said 'so what'. Won't happen to me. There was no apparent shock or horror - it just seemed like she was watching a soap opera.

I have been transferring cash from abroad every month into my Thai bank - never had a problem in 12 years. I cant understand why people who live here long term use an ATM card from a foreign bank and accept the outrageous costs involved.

I know this 'Allergy testing' topic is covered elsewhere but I am only interested in Chiang Rai - hence the Chiang Rai forum. Does anyone know of anywhere in Chiang Rai I can get skin prick allergy testing done?

Just don't see why there cannot be a vote once there is a final brexit deal and all it’s consequences are clear.
Brexit/no brexit, not my right to choose. I don’t live in the U.K. anymore.
However the authoritarian, undemocractic, “no brexit votes ever again” attitude of some brexiteers does cause me concern
If remain had won the referendum the decision would have been accepted without question, even though most remainers cannot see further than the end of their noses. The Brexiteers would not have argued for a second vote.
No one ever said Brexit would be easy and of course, there will be some issues but so what. There is more to Brexit than trade and the opportunities once everything settles, and after we take our 'punishment', are massive.
