Yea but was it a wood house (much more flexible) or was it a concrete house?

    IMO,

For concrete buildings, difficult in the west, impossible in Thailand, Unless of course you wanted to spend much more doing it than the building is worth.

    There are so many issues,

    First the weight,

Second the rigidity of the stricture

Third the brittle nature of the material.

We all have seen what a few inches of settling does to a concrete building. can you imagine what would happen moving it 14-20 meters

IMO you would definitely be moving it 14-20 meters , some of it at 14m. some of it at 20m, but most of it on the way there.????

Very good points, thx for the feedback - and yea that will be part of the process here - as mentioned above - assess the risk. I am collecting and continue to ponder. As part of the DM I want to see them in action  moving a rigid structure. That roof you see in the photo they assembled, including all welds, on the ground and then hoisted it and positioned it on the pillars that are in the photo. TBF it is rigid, although with more give than a Qconn/cement building I guess - but all the welds were done so..... They needed three cranes due to the large footprint - the weight overall is very likely more than this building I want to move. They can obviously maneuver quite well also as the three of them coordinated to place it in a very exact spot. I was impressed anyway.

    Lmao on the 14-20m visual.????

what Kuma  ' .....   you didn't like my crane .      Lol

Lol the overhead straddle was too much, obviously not for this job. Funny story I worked a factory build here and a few overhead straddles were installed. They then tried one - moving a die iirc, and the beams buckled and it collapsed onto the brand new shop floor and caused a lot of damage to other brand new equipment all installed and tested - not to mention the structural damage. Lol the project manager, no clue and that just became the norm thru much of the ranks and they paid for it. Luckily there were no casualties.

Hoping that if I try this I can manage a smoother outcome, haha

  3. Thx for the responses. I did stop by a site on my way home, they had three cranes at work hoisting up a steel roof that had been assembled on the ground. Talked to one operator and he said they sure can do it, need to get their planner out to see the ingress and assess the house and from/to so they know which crane to deploy, see photo of ones they were using today.

So I am going to see what the cost will be and if it is worth it - have done this sort of thing when working but never had a chance to have it done personally, so if it is reasonable in terms of cost and risk, think I will have a go.

    Cheers

See how the Amish community move theirs on YouTube.

Seriously though I would be worried of it folding up, if you can find a good crane operator and most important a good rigger then yes possible with a crane, You say Qconn do you mean light weight blocks? if so disregard my post

Yes the QConn blocks. But the foundation (raised) and the support pillars are all concrete so to me if you slide four steel beams (or more) under the base of the structure, then a crane could attach to those and lift it ever so slightly (it is already sitting on raised pillars) and just swing the crane to the new location. - if positioned properly the crane would not even have to move.....just swing. I think anyway, lol. I am not a structural engineer but i have seen this a lot on construction sites in other jurisdictions....indeed there are three cranes lifting and positioning a huge roof structure right near my house today...I may go and try to ask them...hope the Thai is enough to get by

  5. Good day

Has any of the community had any experience with picking up an existing building and moving it to a new location? Using a crane or other method? I have seen many videos of this being done in other countries but can not find an example here.

We have an existing structure, 6m x 7m building, sitting on 1 m high pillars. I would like to move that building about 14-20m from where it is to a new spot in the yard.

To me, it should be feasible to cut the pillars and use a crane, or other rolling method, to move the building intact to the new spot.

Has anyone heard of or seen this done in Thailand?

The building is, as mentioned, 6m x 7m and is made of Qconn 7.5cm so it is lightweight and I think should move easily - probably one crane could do it, but looking for comments from the community.

    Cheers

    Interesting, Bangkok from what port?

So is it the case that this service will now depart from Bkk rather than Sattahip? We tried to use it years back when everything was snarled from the flu, and never had success. This year we did our southern tour in January and tried to start with the ferry to Samui, but it was not in service. Then after a month plus on the orad we were in Samui and tried to take the ferry back to Sattahip, but it was....not in service. Unfortunately, I have had to shelve the idea of traveling on it as it has been years now and never can buy a ticket. Now if it is moving to Bkk then that makes it all the less likely. We will spend the next few years holidays going West, East and North so it will be some years before we look to go south again...see what things look like then. Nice to see it has found some niche in the market, but we were just never destined to use it I guess, so hard to get onboard just had to move on.

    Good luck

  7. I dont even remember what a TM30 is.....I go every 90 days to the imm office and hand them the paper they gave me the time before and they give me a new one with a date 90 days on. We travel around Thailand constantly and I have never had issue, we book rooms or camp  as we see fit.

Since we have such a pristine and comfortable imm office, I do not even bother with online reporting, its nice to drop by every 90 days actually.

I had this problem and solved it with this glue I found on Lazada. Chinese product. I removed some grout in places and squirted this fairly liquid glue into the tiles. It took a lot of glue with the cement soaking it all up but eventually the cavity was completely filled. I totally solved the problem.

This looks like a potential great solution. I found this thread tonight as I have a brand new floor just laid that they had to replace 20% of the tiles two days after job completed, they were full of gaps. Now there is one tile left to fix and I want to try this product, in case I need it in the future.

Found it on Lazada with mixed reviews. Anyone else have experience with this?

Thank you HammerMan. Sounds great. Only one thing I do not understand: I thought the 2KTHB were for the car.

OK, to make it easy and exclude any misunderstandings: How much is currently a return journey for Sattahip-Koh Samui-Sattahip all-in-all:

    1. Passengers: 2 Adults

    2. Car: Yes, Limousine 5-seats

    3. Accomodation: Private Cabin with built in toilet

Thanks a lot for your support.

5 seat "limousine" is automatically double the 5 seat sedan rate. Surely your staff can run the cost down for you when thoare not driving the limousine? Lol,having some fun

Okay, anyone have any advice on tile replacement companies in central Pattaya or expected cost for 100sqm condo?

Aus, it is difficult at times to get answers on topic. Did you get anywhere yet with a quote? I am in central Pattaya and today had a guy measure up a space, 73sgm in total. For two types of tile ( I provide tile and grout), to go into two bed, two bath unit he quoted me 52k thb for his labour and other materials ...this includes removal of existing laminate flooring, cleaning and prep of base floor to then tile.

The vessel was built under NK Class and is maintained under TG Class. A full and thorough safety inspection was made both by TG and the P and I Club (UK Club) surveyors and everything has been approved, we are currently awaiting issue of the new Safety Certificate. Everything has been thoroughly tested and carefully reinspected to ensure no issues. Due to awaiting issuance of the new safety certificate we are forced to reschedule sailing until February 16th 2023 from Sattahip to Samui.  As I have stated numerous times everyone is more than welcome to visit the vessel at any time and see everything for themselves to satisfy any concerns or questions.  Booking currently can be made through the following links:

Well,a few years in the planning but looks like it will not happen for me on this tour, as the 13th departure from Samui was my last chance. Oh well perhaps on the next southern tour. Sure must be difficult to generate a customer base with all the hardship this project has endured.

Is there laundry on board too, if one wanted to use the time to get some things clean?

    Good luck with getting started.

You can contact, but you can‘t book. Since weeks they send only the same automated message, that they are upgrading the ferry and so on. It‘s just 6 days until a departure on 9th of february which was only announced in this forum.

I don‘t believe that they will depart and if so pretty empty.

Yes given the troubled times they have faced, I am hedging re a Feb 12 departure from Samui. At least I will know if it sailed on the 9th, and then can drop in and see them live re the departure of the 12th.

Thanks will try to contact and get details. Maybe a bit too late but see how the next few weeks go.

Thanks the comments which are all perfectly valid and something I have been chasing the Seahorse management on for a long time.

The delay in releasing the working website/on-line booking system etc.. has purely arisen from fear of releasing a sailing date only to be forced to reschedule again. Mechanically the vessel is all fully repaired. Also the vessel has had a tough "top to bottom" Safety Inspection by the Marine Department/Class and the Insurance Companies and fully passed. The current hick-up is in Samui, where some extra dredging work is needed, especially at the Nathong Jetty and the Samui authorities are demanding extra paper work/operating licensing etc.. etc.. which we are rushing to complete. We are still on schedule to resume services on the 9th of February and we will be making announcements both on Facebook and the website next week. We will outsource marketing so that we can include alternative booking methods with established travel sites also.

Hey Hammer. We are on our Southern tour now, left early Jan and the ferry from Sattahip was not in service so we have been thinking about trying to take the Samui - Sattahip leg. I see here that the booking site is not 100% and that the first sail is now set as Feb 9, to Samui. What day would the return voyage to Sattahip be? We are still tripping around and will consider wrapping up on Samui and taking the service back to Sattahip if there is a solid departure date planned

    Cheers

FYG we are currently on track to resume sailings to/from Sattahip/Samui on or about January 12th 2023, subject to no issues/complications from the customs department for the import of spare parts.

Just dropped by here for an update on things as we plan to head south in Jan. Can't believe the news, there sure seems to be a dark cloud hovering over this project, one bad circumstance after another. Sorry to hear that.

Looking at the proposed date of Jan 12, that will be close...we may want to depart sooner thou, so it might mean a miss for the Seahorse, though if all is going well we could always take it from Samui back to Sattahip on the back end of the trip.

These days is proof of vax still a requirement, or has that finally been shelved?

Hope you get back in the water.

The 2pm to 5pm no alcohol is stupid, about time they cancelled it

It sure has been effective in stopping me in the 19 years I have been here. Just drink casually and I cannot count the times I thought "I feel like a beer" and went into 7/ Big C etc to buy and got turned down as it seems I always get that feeling between 14:00-17:00 lol. Some times I would find a small mini and get what I wanted, but most often just gave up and never bothered haha

  17. Sheryl, yes thanks I was just thinking of going to get some berroca (sp?) one of those fizzy tablets with a vitamin cocktail, I will look for this one as you mention. Have air purifiers, been a staple in the house for 12+ years. I avoid the masks but did wear one yesterday while out and tbh it was beneficial, to my surprise. Pretty sure now this is anxiety at its base, seems I am having a tough run right now. Big issue is I am trying so hard to catch a breath that my stomach expands and gets like a rock, from breathing improperly I imagine. Very uncomfortable.

Thanks for all the great suggestions and for spending your valuable time to reply.

Evidence for ectoin is scanty with many studies indicating it won't do much more than plain saline nasal rinse. I don't know of any way to get it online, only one German company makes it.

Local Dr is not going to offer much if anything and may prescribe unnecessary meds (like asthma inhaler) which just add to your problems. If it gets really bad I suggest coming to see this doctor in Bangkok : DR.SONGKLOT AEUMJATURAPAT    https://www.saintlouis.or.th/en/FindDoctor

Nasal irrigations with normal saline may help some. Can use a neti pot or just a bulb syringe.

Are you sure the issue is air pollution and not seasonal allergy? For the later antihistamines can help.

Thanks very much for the insights into self treatment, the suggestion of a Dr to visit and the point about allergies. I have had this issue with shortness of breath on and off over the 20 years I have been here and it has been the case in Bkk, Chonburi and now out East here in Chan, so I think it is poor AQI over any allergy but would not hurt to check...or maybe it would hurt, these days Dr visits are not what they used to be. I for sure have a tendency to over think these things and I know that does not help matters. Will ponder making an appt to see the mentioned Dr if we get ourselves to Bkk...thanks. All is good now as the AQI subsided so that makes me think that is the driver....

yes, they have compressors,  not sure what size your room is but I would not go for an 8000 btu, it's just to small. I would minimum go for 9000,  but I got the 12000 BTU because I wanted to make sure it cools the whole room and it does. I haven't hear good about Aconatic & AJ brands.  Midea & Gree are middle class brands.  I found a could on the Thaiwatsadu website ...  but possible old ads and not up to date. anyway :

If you go onto their webpage you can click on ' see branches where this model is available ' in the bottom right corner and it tells you what stores have and how far from you.   You could go and check some out ......

Hey Steve, thanks. Actually did some looking around today and saw AJ, Midea, Aconatic and Gree units,. Did not see Hisense or Accord. Do they both have compressors and a BTU rating? I will check online for more info myself. Emptying water is a no biggie..as I say this will be an additional unit to supplement the wall mounted we have now so it will not have a big workload.

Thanks for taking the time to upload the details.
