OP: Not specific to your device, but may be of use to you. I used adb to remove a lot of the bloatware on my Vivo phone. It should work for any android device. The apps are not uninstalled/deleted, they are disabled and do not appear on the phone. A factory reset will re-enable them again. You basically install adb on your pc/laptop, connect your android device via usb and then you can disable the apps you don't want. Here is a link which explains what to do.

    https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/uninstall-system-apps-without-root-vivo-bloatware.3817230/

To find out package name of apps you want to remove, install App Inspector app on your device.

I made the mistake of rooting one of my previous phones, which invalidated the warranty and stopped me from downloading software updates.

Mutt thx for the reply and link.I have seen that exact article on xda and the adb process looks like it would fit the bill. I would prefer a tech to do it though, not familiar enough with it to try first time on a new phone. Will keep looking for that contact.

    Cheers

Rooting the phone will quite possibly brick the phone void the warranty, or introduce a host of unintended consequences. And unless you intend to side load APKs of dodgy apps from dodgier sites, you'll end up with a phone hardly worth using. There's a reason why Tukom and others will state up front that they will guarantee nothing.

It's also worth remembering that Google develops and maintains Android, and any phone other than an iPhone is using it (Huawei uses a fork of Android AOS). Additionally all apps on the Playstore are vetted/approved by Google and (theoretically) must comply with Google's terms of service. That includes (theoretically) bloat ware and skins from Xiaomi, Samsung, et al.

The best advice is what sungod suggested: remove/disable/hide the apps you can.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for the input and the good luck. I hope to get to a conclusion soon, and hope to not have a brick when complete, lol.

It is hard to imagine anyone coming to Thailand for holiday these days with all the difficult paperwork, tests, and insurance. Then they they stand a very good chance of spending 2 weeks in captivity for a false positive or Covid with no symptoms, paying for the privilege of jail as well as losing the money they spent on their hotel. Too big a risk

Have to agree, though I just hosted two visitors, both without a jab, that came, did their ten days qtine, then had the run of the country - and are still running at this moment lol. Not for everyone, ten days of twenty is a no go, but if three months + then maybe, if no jab and wanting a break from all the madness.

Jabbed friends have arrived as well, and seem to have a similar experience, but only having to qtine for one day, I believe. (before the latest rule changes).

As for not popular anymore - great!

It never stops to amuse me when people buy chinese phones which are created for a single purpose - to collect the Big Data, and then these people desperately try to shut down that collection  You've paid for that phone $500 less than a normal phone might cost, don't you understand why it was that cheap?

Also today I've learned that these poor souls have to ask Xiaomi to unlock their phones ????

Well, back to the topic: as your device is not listed there: https://twrp.me/Devices/Realme/

    nor there: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/

    - it might be not possible to unlock/root/remove all the bloatware.

Yea it might seem crazy on the surface - but the exercise is to try and exorcize goog, not stop being tracked...that I figure not possible. I have seen links, even in this thread, on my model, so I do not think all is lost just yet.

    Thx for the links

We're looking to buy land (my wife is anyway).

Much cheaper than Pranburi and Hua Hin.

    Definitely on our radar.

    Happy New Year!

Plus plenty of Durian down there.

Just returned from Chumphon / PKK. Both nice spots but do not stack up, imo, to the package here.

We bought and put up a small place to have max room for fruit n other garden. As of now have Durian x2 (Monthong n Chanee), Mango x3, limes, pomelo x2, coconut x2, banana x5, papaya, and a few others I may be forgetting plus a load of herbs n veg going as well. Pretty full on work but transitioned to this just in time it seems, as it has been over a year now and what a year it has been - everywhere else, here is sabai as it gets from what I can see....

I think you need to forget any idea of getting around Google and Xiaomi. Google is behind Android and Xiaomi are getting in on the act with their MIUI interface.

So even when you root the phone, the interface might still feed you ads or whatever.

Though getting back to who can do it for you; I haven't needed such a task done and so haven't any personal recommendation. Good luck in your endeavour.

Thx and I hear you on giving goog the slip via Xiaomi, or any android...seems now Huawei is the way to go to bypass - so I will likely be left trying to disable them as much as possible and not sign in, but not sure how it will go. See if anyone else here has input.

    Cheers and enjoy 22/65

The phone is brand new, so if you root it and something goes wrong you lose your warranty.

You can disable apps you dont need to use and hide them.

This is along the lines of what I would like to do, disable w/o having to root. The focus is the bloatware AND goog apps, goog just b/c I am surprised how much of a chokehold they have on phones and the ability to strip mine them of data. Learning that it is v hard for the laymen to get round their apps.

    Thx

I have been watching these tutorials and reading about the steps - but find many places where there are cautions that 'things may not turn out as intended, be sure to have a backup and be able to restore all you delete etc" - I no longer feel up to the task (would have given it a shot in the past) and feel more like finding someone that does this daily and can just quickly execute and be done - and have the tools/knowledge to get around and kinks in the process. One thing is for certain, goog has an absolute chokehold on everything android.....

I believe what you are referring to is called "rooting"  I would try Tukcom.  There are many phone stores there for unlocking so I would guess they would also do the rooting as well.

Cheers for that. Yea I would go cold to tukcom or fortune city etc but i live out a ways and would like to have something arranged in advance before travelling.

Off topic I know but are restaurants allowed to sell alcohol - after 16 December.?

Late to reply but we just had visitors and it is a tit scenario, some places have freely available, some in coffee bags, some not at all. Best to check in advance if a must part of your meal. The places more off the beaten track have more flexibility imo

Wondering...is that a Xiaomi AQI unit? Did you order that online/ buy it here in Thailand or bring from another location? Do you find it useful/accurate?

    Cheers

  12. Ah to live in the province. A house here is built for 500k, not a kitchen remodel. I still have property in Pattaya I rent out and will remodel soon - from the sounds of this thread I will be bringing a team with me. I mean of course you can pay 500k to remodel a kitchen, but you must be getting some kitchen for that, wow.

A little less dramatic, shots fired, one bystander injured (leg wound).

A 27-year-old man driving a pickup truck failed to stop at a police checkpoint.

Police tried to shoot the vehicle's tyres, a ricochet bullet hit the bystander, a middle-aged man.

The pickup driver has since been arrested. Police found eight methamphetamine pills hidden in the driver's seat.

Police have detained him at Muang Chanthaburi Police Station.

    Channel 7 News

Yes I see now it was not the mass casualty event it would be if it were a US city, lol, but true unfortunately imo. Still, the more sober reports that followed said he was moving thru the market zone at an elevated speed - really a bad place for that, and what a place to decide to take the shot, obvious now since a civilian was hit but hmmm. I was there today and made it thru no injuries so I guess al is back to normal, lol

  14. News here is a few hours ago police were chasing a group of drug dealers in central CHanthaburi City,  and it carried on thru the downtown Nam Phlu market, where at least one bystander was hit by gunfire.

Story still developing, apparently they have been captured at this point. If anyone else has more details please update.

Ah the serenity of lovely Chan takes a hit with this.

So, is he going to take Burma, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia to International courts????

China, I would contend, is a major (and growing) contributor to the issue. Check any air current / aqi site like aqair, and see the prevailing winter winds blowing all that coal residue south each year. It seeems not a coincidence all the aqi readings from Harbin south to Bkk rise each winter, and the Chinese heavy use of coal is a big factor, imo. No one dares mention it thou, for fear of riling the pooh bear and company. On top of that, they are adding an annual amount of coal burning capacity equal to the entire rest of the worlds current burning rate - every year for the forseeable future...this I read so of course it could be all wrong, nothing seems to be able to be taken at face value anymore. But I have had the experience of travelling thru China's interior in a freezing January, and the pall of smoke from coal burning was almost incomprehensible, and that was 2002!
