Ectoin inhalation solution is not yet available here

Do you have diagnosed asthma? Or is this just irritation from air pollution?

Frankly moving to an area with less pollution is the best answer. Or - if in a place like Chiang Mai where there is a definite seasonal pattern to the problem - take a tyrip elsewhere  the relevant months.

Hi Sheryl. I hear you. On my list of attributes for the place we bought, air quality was high on the list. We are in Chanthaburi, which does better than almost all provinces in terms of AQI (afaik) but it still has times where it gets bad and no I do not have diagnosed asthma, more irritation and heavy breathing when exposed to bad air. I am not sure if there is anywhere else better to go in Thailand in terms of air - of course regions ebb and flow but not sure could stay on the road for two months ducking the air, lol, but I would like to.

Is the Ectoin solution a good one in your opinion? I wonder if it can be had online, if it was worth it, or better to just see a local Dr and see what they offer?

    Have a great day

  2. Good day,

reviving this thread to see if any have comments, reviews or suggestions regarding portable air conditioners.

We would like to get a single hose unit, so one that uses interior air as intake for cooling, then expelling hot air thru the hose.

8000BTU is the size I think we need, not a large space and we already have wall units, this is just additional capacity. I have seen a number of LG units, and I have had great experience with LG wall/compressor units that came with my condo a decade ago, not sure if they still make them as good as they did, or if their portables are any good.

    Any comment s appreciated, cheers

  3. Good day, found this thread with great info but not active for some time. I live here in Thailand now for 20 years and have over that time often been irritated by poor air. Going thru that again now and wondering what inhaler recommendations others may have, now that some years have passed. Has anyone heard of Ectoine inhaler products here?

I would like to get something that will give me relief in times of poor air quality and thanks in advance for all replies. I would go see a dr. but recent experiences have been very negative so am hesitant.

    Cheers enjoy the day

Don't tell me what I think.

But on that subject how soon would it take for the environmental stuff to be noticed in Thailand?

    Hours, days, weeks  etc.?

Would the banks close and how soon?

    https://www.cram.com/essay/Environmental-Effects-Of-The-First-Atomic-Bomb/F3MVDP9GRE45

Lots available on the two instances when such an event actually happened, open your wallet and fill your boots and do some reading, then come back and fill us all in - order now while the banks are still open...

When the BTS first opened I recall people would read books...  most commonly ‘comic type’ books...

Rather than the magazine type comics we are used to in the West, they are actual books... with story-board type layout. These are also very popular in Japan.

I recall going to Au Bon Pain and reading the paper... Bangkok Post... The Nation and also BK Magazine and The BigChilli magazine (stocked in some areas).

Exactly there was much more written material around to read, and <gasp> people actually would talk to each other as well. Struck up many an interesting conversation back in the day hiding under some roof waiting with others for the rain to pass...not so much anymore, everyone reaches for the crutch

Another member has posted there are only 15 rooms onboard.

Your screen shot shows three different types of rooms.  I do not count the "comfort room" which does not have beds.

That's 5 rooms for each style, and if you are not prepared to pay 17,000 baht for the suite room, there's only 10 rooms available to you.

    Book well in advance.

Sad when a troll tries so hard and can't even hook anyone - there I threw you a sympathy acknowledgment, see if you can wring 8 replies out of it. Then take the advice of your sage handle and leave....cheers

Did you make a final choice? I ended up with a flat yesterday and today when getting it fixed was told that I need new tires, at less than 50K km. That is a fair bit less use than I was accustomed to in the great white north but after checking further it does seem as if 50=/- and 4 or so years is what is to be expected here, given the harsh conditions ie:heat. Do others find that to be the case?

The choices for tires are bewildering....BF Goodrich / Goodyear / Conti / Cooper / Yokohama / Pirelli / Hankook / Michelin / Firestone / Nitto and on and on ....for the size I want, 262/65 R17. Hankook has a few nice choices but they are made in Indonesia it seems so not as easy to find here. Was surprised to see Pirelli making a tire that size,, thought they were race only.

I am in no rush but figure will get new ones by year end, always interesting to hear what others found worthy. We stay in Chan so rain is a big factor for us.

    Cheers

and....just did the 02:00 7 run and saw these other names to add to the list, all in shops just outside the house here, within 5 minutes drive....Bridgestone, Nexen, Dunlop, Thunderer, Maxxis,  Advan, West Lake, GoodTyre, Leao, Nankang...truly mind boggling amount of choice, some have never heard of.

Geez, do you think this service might be competing with flying to Samui and renting a motorbike for 200 baht a day?

Yes, yes, I know, rocket science.  ????

You actually think touring bikers would equate flying and renting a 200+ /day POS scooter (or whatever- a BIG bike) with touring the country with their ride??? There are only two wheels spinning in your own wheelhouse perhaps?

  10. Love Roi Et, so compact how could it be difficult to find the places where people congregate? Just tool around on bicycle/moto etc and sure to find something - unfortunately you might run into the agro maritimer with the bee in his bonnett lol, or maybe thats only when he has not had enough to drink or has not slapped a soi dog around yet so still edgy....life in Issan!

I am all for variety and choice here, so I wish this project the best.

I have just ran a flight booking through Bangkok Airways for the 19th October.  Price was 2110 baht one way, including 20kg luggage.  Flight time 70 mins.

I suppose the question is, will passengers prefer the onboard experience your service is offering, or, an extra night in a Samui restaurant / bar / nightclub?

Any idea of your drink prices onboard?

Biggest plus for me, you can't take your truck as part of your luggage on Bkk Air

We canceled the service to Songkhla basically because of zero support/endless frustrations from the local administration, lack of a fixed berth and the inability of anyone to clear the fishing nets.. it was sad because passenger numbers had reached almost 300. High fuel costs became the final straw. Currently the vessel is being prepared for going to Samui and the delay is dredging a channel at the jetty in Samui which will be completed in June. The ferry will operate more as a themed "party" cruise than a ferry, but we are adding more sleeping areas and additional entertainment areas. Expect to relaunch in July.

Sad to hear, I was waiting for vax rules to ease to make the trip but alas it is never to be. Good luck with the Samui hustle, hope it works out.

Well, having a bicycle makes things complicated.  Not sure what kind of tuk tuk will fit a bicycle.  A regular taxi also won't, which is why I mentioned the van taxi's in my original post.  Those are expensive since it's basically an airport run so would likely be close to 1800 rount-trip.  Excuse me for seeing if anyone else had done something similar and had ideas I hadn't thought of.  If a van taxi is the best option, then I'll just rent a bike at the bike lane since it would be cheaper at 900 for 4 hours.

From Asok you can make your way to 10 and get across the wooden bridge in morning to the park (now expanded with tobacco monopoly gone) and do that 20x - or take the sky bridge from that park to Lumpini (portaging the bike in places is required, I used to do that ride back and forth to work everyday) and you can tool around both parks and the sky bridge in between....that way you can avoid getting to swampy (no tree cover so it gets hot on clear days). You can also go down to Tha Rua behind the big market at 21 (Asok rd) and Rama IV and take a long tail o boat ferry across the river with your bike and ride around prapadaeng - none of these options give you the wide open long stretch runs like the airport but they are interesting and fun rides with lots of scenery and distractions, so depends what you want. And by the way, virtually any Tuk Tuk will strap your bike to the back and take you out there but bike is exposed to some risk. Have fun.

Thais are still pretending its the black plague, compliance in bangkok is higher than 95%, I would go a surrounding country instead for now heard Vietnam is pretty much back to normal, there's a very small hope it changes here on the 1st October if government downgrade causes the news presenters and influencers to demask but it's more probable Thailand remains a mask mecca into 2023

I keep to myself for the most part out here in south east Thailand (Chanthaburi/Trat) but have to say I am amazed every night I am out on my empty jungle street in the middle of the night (work thru the night) and a motorbike passes or a car, and the single rider/occupant is wearing a mask still over 90% of the time around here, and during the day when we do some errands mask use is easily still well over 90%. The wife says many woman like it for the presumed protection from the sun they get / less need for make up if in a rush, but it is amazing to me how many have them glued on even though there is no requirement. We go everywhere with no mask and never get hassled about it so I am grateful for that, but we do get looks as we often are the only people in crowds of over 100 that have no masks. What can you say.....

The air has been very clean up north here in Chiang Rai so far, with excellent visibility allowing yo to see the spectacular views from the mountaintops.

Seasonal burning in Myanmar (the main source of our smoke) and Thailand has been delayed due to wetter conditions, and the NASA fire map compared to last year shows it.

That explains a lot possibly. Here is the ESE the air this year is as good as we can recall in years (touch wood)...hope it continues

So did I after learning from another thread here.

    That's the way to go.

If you can't do on your own you need to find someone who knows his job.

No Google at all? Good luck going without Playstore.

DON'T root! Endless potential threats and certain apps will simply refuse to work on a rooted phone (some banking apps e.g.).

Thanks. Preferably I find someone that is familiar with the process and have them do it. Since I embarked on this idea I am more interested than ever what a google free world is like...how much of a strangle hold do they really have, try to find out.

    Sorry, what's the time pressure?

Custom ROMs are cool, more so if you a hobbyist and can update them daily or weekly as issues arise and new releases are offered. "Oh, WiFI doesn't work, dang I hope the developer fixes that soon."

You should not expect full functionality.

Once you settle on a ROM make sure you read all the sub-forums which detail that ROM before choosing to flash it.

Thanks for the input, yea the need to be a hobbiest to keep reasonable functionality will steer me away from this option, I cannot devote time to that.  So I will find some middle ground that looks like it likely involves google apps staying, but being disabled/unused.

The time pressure is my own, bought the phone over a month ago and have been trying to close on a solution and want to move forward.

I suppose for google-light the way to go will be huawei (or see what else comes out in the next few years).

    Cheers

Yeah, rooting your phone - snicker - is quite passe.

And any financial service/banking apps will NOT function on a rooted phone. And now you're locked on that ROM. And did we mention the potential security issues?

Manufacturer bloatware is (part of) the price you pay for the handset. Well that and the automatic reporting back to the Central Committee.

    Same-same for Google apps.

For ancient devices, rooting and installing a custom ROM can be a viable solution. I do this on a few devices, but never, ever on any sort of daily driver.

I agree on the point about not messing with your daily driver. I use multiple devices, this one is suitable for "messing with" but I still want it to function. Thx
