  1. the atm machines we used while we were in samui were the ones that were outside a bank.funny thing was i would of used any machine but my m8 was adament he only wanted to use the purple machines which i think were bank of thiland or somthing like that

the best way when using an atm is to cover the keypad with your bag/wallet or hand.so even if the atm did have a false fronf or card reader installed then your information would be pretty worthless.

Purple is probably Siam Commercial Bank.

If the fraud is being done by an insider, i.e. one with access to the guts of the ATM, then all bets are off. The PIN can be recorded internally in a number of ways, none of which involve the external security camera. Covering the keypad when entering the PIN is a good defense against "shoulder surfing", but in turn someone still needs to clone your card or come into possession of the original by whatever means.

most card info is obtained by hotels who all want a copy if paying by card they then sell the info to the cloners job done :o

  2. Diethelm Travel is one of the longest-established travel companies in Southeast Asia. I've never had them arrange transportation (although I've used other services from them), but I'm sure they'll be fine. However, there are many companies doing airport transfers. If you would like me to put you in contact with someone for a competing offer, PM me.

there service is 1st class they will pick you up at the arrivals gate take you safely to your destination in a late model car or aircon minibus very good service :o

  3. I am looking for a bakery that can make me some special types and designs of breads. I will go the bakery and demonstrate how to make it but then want them to take over mass producing.

Anyone know of someone who can do?

    Thanks,

    M

try angela;s bakery in maenam she might be able to help ..

  4. I'm going to the motor office in Lipa Noi next week to renew my driving licence.

I have had my Thai driving licence for one year now and have Non-B Visa.

Do I need a new document from immigrations or any other documents.

Drive safe and use a helmet :D

you need 2 passport size photo's medical paper and letter from immigration should get 3-5 year licence if there in a good mood :o

  5. I love lakeview bungalows, it is safe and secure, close to everything that interest me and it has a great garden with swimming pool for my children and me to play in. It is my oasis.

I hate to break this to you but my friend who lives in Lavkeview Bungalows had his house broke into. They stole his laptop, camera and phone. They removed the air conditioner to get in. He thinks it was some of the guys that work out at the Muy Thai training gym close by. This was about 6 weeks ago.

I hate to brake it to you but your friend has brougth ladyboys to his house too many times. The muy thai gays are probably too blame for a lot, now if you ask the manager of lakeview bungalows he is quite happy with what they have done to that area. What hes not happy with (and i know this for a fact because i normally stay in lakeview bungalows), is the fact that some of the longtermers keep bringing ladyboys to the area!!! Now this is a case i know in particular and i say:are all of the people in the "gameclub" gays?? I mean, a bunch of fifty plus people meeting every saturday to play nintendo???????? Are u serious??? Get a grip!!! Samui has : Nice beaches, beutiful women, nice climat, cocconuts, mangotrees, good seafood, and so much else to offer, and a bunch of locals that sit every saturday playing videogames and getting hight on wathever and complaining about somebody robbed them after bringing home several ladyboys and showing them there laptop??????????You people are so gay that its getting embarrissing!!! Now, i have a suggestion for the whole gameclub: Next saturday you dont even start your nintendo, ***edited for flaming and abuse***

Awesome spelling my good man.You must apply for that ENGLISH teaching job advertised by one of the samui posters!

I might. No, serious, im not good at englich, but im quite good at manners. Im so sorry if i lost my tempure but i really feel that somebody that did not diserve it got hurt in this post. Now i, as a tourist spent a lot of my time in lakeview bungalows and liked it. I happend to know that the brake in they had 8 or 9 weeks ago was caused by some man himself because he brought ladyboys in his home. Now, this is a problem all over samui. If you are turned on by ladyboys, the thing is they will check out your home and for sure come back to steel what you have, no matter where you live. Its how they work. They turn u on and see what you have in your home and how to get in. Now, if you keep bringing ladyboys to your home every night and still are surprised when you get robbed, im sorry you dont get it. And "meatgrowler" i am sorry about me speeking an englich you dont understand. If you send me a e-mail i will try to make it even clearer for you. Im not so good at englich, sorry.

Now im gonna do somthing relly crazy, im gonna answer my own quote!! This post where about to be about whats great about samui, yet it ended up about something else, sorry for me contributing to that. I love samui because: you can go to the mountain-resturant with your girlfrined and have a romatic dinner, you can go to the beutiful beach (choeng moen, or even chaweng this time a year) and have a nice lunch with a salt wather bath rigth after it, you can still go and do some jetskidriving, or even a "halfway-serious" offroad-driving with a good motorbike. You can still have a lot of fun on this island and every-one who dont appreciate this should be sent to europe in januari!!! Kidding, but lets face it:you are in paradise and should appreciate it. Samui is a great place to be, even thought it changed alot over the years.

why do nice happy threads always turn in to ladyboy/stealing/murder etc look around the other forums on tv when they post they post relivent answers to the question set ive been here 13 years never going back to the uk not left thailand for 3 years resident visa not over stay seen most of the evolution of samui 1st hand helped in some of it if the building work etc hadnt been done the tourist would not be here only cheap sangson swilling low lifes its still a great place to live and earn a living have a look on the net at world news you are better off here than anywhere else in the world if some of you dont like it then its time for you to go else where as for getting the thread back on track this island is my paradise and could not emagine raising my daughter anywhere else she has a great school 1 minute from the beach can swim in my own pool 365 days a year order a pizza and big mac go see the latest movie at tescos she can play outside on her bike and i dont have to worry about the devients else where in the world. i meet many many people and they would give there right arm to have what we have here on samui so be thankful for what we have guys and girls a paradise with the odd hicup now and again :o longest reply ive ever sent thinking maybe the threads finish :D

  6. Advise you to Google it on Thaivisa.Too many variants of the day throughout Thailand. It should give you a broader picture & different perspectives.Have fun.

look out for the big water delivery trucks there big fireman hoses really hurt :o

  7. To buy or not to buy?

    Parts costs/reliability/insurance/yearly tax?

    Any experience with this car?

bought a sportrider v version in august 2000 apart from new tyres and 2 batteries this car has been fantastic this version was discontinued 4 weeks before the turbo version a friend bought the turbo after me much quicker but has had many problems with it over the years but could be just bad luck only real problem was the lacqure on mine began to peel off after 4 years but 20000b to re spray its good for a few years yet :o

  8. Having been to Thailand more times than I can count I was NEVER asked

to show a return ticket at immigration at BKK or HKT airports on arrival.

Last year (September) I came here for the first time on a one-way with

a non-imm good for 6 months. The lady at the airline check-in checked

with her supervisor and she said it was OK as I had a visa.

By all means check/clarify with the airline to be safe just in case but I

doubt you will have any problem.

    Good luck

    Enjoy your stay

    :o

come in all the time 1 way as buy ticket in thailand never been asked to show return ...

  9. Well qwertz, I am not sure about this. I previously had no problem with the heat but this year I have noticed that it can be a bit draining. I also notice that my wife and many Thai neighbours are also complaining about the heat recently.

I actually did a stint in Saudi and had no problems with 50 degree plus temperatures for months at a time (mind you I was drunk most of the time). Don't know how I would manage now.

I lived the first thirty years of my life between Ireland and England and never got acclimatised to the cold there :D

I am very happy that I discovered TV so that I can vent any heat induced grummyness (spelling? too hot to spellcheck) on here

drink lots of water cool not freezing shave in cold water stops the upper lip getting sweaty shower 1 hour before going out sit in front of the fan in bars etc and dont rush around look at the thai dont rush anything do they :o
  10. Up To You but if it were up to me, I'd cancel. The only think that would clear it up is a good rain but that's not likely to happen this month.

i was up there last week it wasnt good but also not that bad im up there again 5 april only draw back i heard songkran is starting early on the 1st and i really dont like that but have business so cant cancel :o

  11. I have the links to weather.com on My Yahoo. Here's Chiang Mai:

    # Today: Scattered thunderstorms. High 83F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

    # Tonight: Scattered thunderstorms this evening followed by occasional showers overnight. Low 64F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.

    # Tomorrow: Variable clouds with scattered thunderstorms. High 89F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.

    # Tomorrow night: Scattered thunderstorms in the evening with a few showers possible late. Low 64F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.

    # Thursday: Morning showers. Highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 60s.

    # Friday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 90s and lows in the mid 60s.

    # Saturday: Abundant sunshine. Highs in the upper 90s and lows in the mid

Those high temperatures in F are several degrees lower than what it's been lately.

Here in Mae-Jo my thermometer says 91*F in-the-shade, and it is sunny & clear, except for the haze.

A nice refreshing shower would be VERY welcome indeed ! Here's hoping !

isnt this what the north needs to put out the fires and get rid of the haze ?

  12. Here we go again : a committee creates... a subcommittee.

I mean, if we didn't know that all those allegations were certainly true... it would be ridiculous.

And the irony : Mana was himself the president of... a subcommittee. :D

I guess Thais just love thoses...

Anyway : enough talking and committee creation ! We need prosecution.

A transfert of 80 millions from the company to the personal account of this guy should be a hard evidence. It should be backed (or not) by some accounting traces.

    Could hardly be petty cash...

So ? No need a subcommittee to investigate.

What is the accounting justification for this transfert ? If they aren't any, put the guy in custody and make him talk.

    [/i]

This man has too many friends and is very high up in the political scene. He was involved with other regimes prior to Toxin.. I would be willing to wager that he will never be convicted(his secretary did it and he knew nothing about it until he read it in the newspaper :o )

And in the off chance he is convicted, I am sure he will never see that inside of a jail..

80 million buys a lot of help so the circle of corruption continues :D

  13. What about the overstay aspect of this saga?

If I understand correctly, he was put in detention because he could not produce his passport, then he was released when he provided the court with proof that his passport was stolen. That seems plausible, *except* that he has been illegally in the country for a "Multi Year" period of time???

a friend of mine last year had a nasty accident was in hospital 7 weeks 1700000b bill after brain surgery icu 5 weeks incurred over stay during this time and had to pay 20000b overstay the drunken thai who hit him with his bike (also lost an eye) admitted his fault got off scott free when told customs about accident (not to much explaining just a look at my friend told the story)said not our problem no pay no fly now is that fair ? so if he didnt pay he too could still be here sitting in his chair vegetating next to the cauliflowers :o

  14. It has been my experience in life that because most advice costs nothing, many people think that's it worth. If I had a dollar for every time I've thought "if only I'd listened", I'd be a rich man. Just one example: my mother saw my first wife to be for the first time and said "You probably won't listen but that girl is not for you".

we must be related my mum said the same thing twice if she had not have died im sure she would of told me about the 3rd and saved me a house car furniture visa cards ,, i have to go now very depressed :o

  15. An earlier topic on this board about a guy who had a bad experience with a traffic cop jogged my memory of an incident which happened to me in Bangkok last year. Not posted here for ages (as am back in UK :o ) so I thought I'd share it and see if anyone has similar experience (and if so just how common is this type of thing?!?!)

Worst experience with police I had..........I was eating a fish at the side of the road by myself in BKK while chatting with the staff when some pissed up Thai guy taps me on the head with a tree branch. He kept on doing this getting harder every time so I flipped out - stood up and pushed him on hiss ass.

Boss of the restaurant runs out & tells me I have to go and that he "is police" :D so please pay up and go. I pay & leave without getting my change and start pegging it down the street to get a taxi REAL QUICKLY when a pickup truck screeches besides me and 2 police jump out and grab me (this time they are in uniform) then handcuff me to the back of the pickup :bah::bah::o crowds are gathering to witness the spectacle and the guy I threw on his ass returns the favour. He is blind drunk and ranting at me and insists on getting in the pickup also.

OK so now I am sweating and the 3 Thai teen-punks who are also along for the ride chained up sitting across from me are absolutely loving the show unfolding before them and are pi55ing themselves laughing. I suppose they need a good sense of humour to take their minds of where they are headed. The Cop sitting next to me kindly informs me "you f****** farang you make big problem in Thailand, you in Thailand now <deleted>***** farang" etc etc etc. Having no idea what is coming next I just wait untill we arrive at the station.

While at the station I am told to sign my name and am punched on the side of the head when I try to do so with a chorus of laughter from all the cops there and also the teenage punks who are waiting to be processed. this happens again and I refuse to write anything when I am thrown to the floor and proceed to catch one hel_l of a beating. I couldn't do anything but curl up into a ball and take it. Anyway I am finally saved by an older cop who shouts at all the other cops and they leave me alone. The old dude speaks to me in Thai and I reply in Thai which sends him crazy as I pretended all the time that I was a tourist fresh off the plane ( don't ask me why I just thought it would look better :D )

Anyway in the end he shouts at me to get out and even opens the door for me !! only to kick me in the ass FULL FORCE as I walk out.

I don't need to be told twice and leg it as fast as possible out of there and jump into the nearest taxi without asking him if he will take me OR telling him where I am going (bai-nai? BAI BAI BAI LEEO LEEO !!!!) but he fully understood when I told him what had just happened.

That night my GF said that it had probably been my fault and that I should not have pushed the guy with the tree branch - some sympathy uh? but she changed her tune two days later when she saw me walking out of the shower with my sides, back and backside turning crazy purple/green/yellow shades due to the bruises. When she told her mum she went balistic & demanded to know what police station this happened in but I did not tell her as I believe that I got off very lightly compared to what could of happened. After all bruises will heal but a stint in the monkey house followed by deportation and blacklist........... :D;)

    Be Careful..................

a few years ago i rent a car to a long term tourist unfortunatly he died went to the police (tourist) to claim my truck was asked for the paper work gave them the book but not in my name took over payments from thai friend was told i didnt own truck and couldnt have it went away with payment book bill of sale and still no joy the police man told me to go away i argued with him when he started to swear at me in thai speaking thai myself understood and gave him the full monty of my thai profanites wrong desision ended up in the cell for 12 hours then bundled into a pick up and taken to the real police station where they took his statement and then mine while being interveiwed the policeman ask me why i assaulted the tourist police officer ? not beleiving my ears i explained i insulted him explained the difference between the 2 words and he said oohhhhhh and left the room came back 10 minutes later and said maybe you better not go to court as if you are found guilty the insult slur could be translated to assault and maybe the next visa run they may not let me back in i had better pay the policeman 80000b and he would drop the case but at least i got the truck back motto is dont say too much as they twist it in there favour i just wonder how many people they have conned by twisting words and scaring people into parting with there money.......... :D:D

  16. I just joined a forum for men to bitch about their pregnant wives - it is a great relief to know that I am not the only one that knocked up the spawn of satan!

Always wondered who wound up with my ex. :o

    another kiwi? :D

ive and always will be faithful to tv but my wife thats another story :D

  17. Hey All. Just wondering what you guys normally pay on your monthly electric bills?

Mine was 2,346 THB this month, which translates to nearly 90 USD! I do use the air every night in the bedroom, but this seems quite pricey to me!

Anyone else feel the same way?

mines around 4000 b amonth but do have a swimming pool pump going 4 hours a day at least 2 fans on 24/7 1 aircon on around 8 hours a day 2 fridges and freezer tv laptop outside lighting etc so not that bad i thought you say aircon what about appliances etc electric from government or landlord ?

  18. I don't think it's necessary to trash the poster as a homophobe just for asking an honest question. There are a great number of really good people who are uneasy about alternative lifestyles purely because they just aren't used to it. That's why you ask questions.

Maybe after listening to some of the saner answers the OP will be a bit more informed and able to approach the situation with a more informed outlook.

It sure isn't going to educate him about it by calling him a homophobe. If anything it will put him on the defensive and the opportunity for him to learn anything from the situation will be lost.

point taken but just trying to get the point over that the katoy is his brother in law :o

  19. I've read something similar about Surat Thani being somewhat unfriendly but NST sounds awful...Thais in general are nothing like what you're describing. I've been in Hat Yai a few times and they were fine with me but I was also with my Thai wife and family (mother-in-law and brother-in-law) so I can't compare with somebody who has interacted with them alone.

Baaksida...It's interesting that the Muslims in that area are nice to you considering some of the Muslim views towards Westerners. I've also been in Pattani which as you know is Muslim dominated and a real hot spot now. I have a lot of family down there (mother-in-law's side) but none of the Muslims have ever said anything bad to me or made bad comments. Even when I got stuck on a family friend's motorcycle, three Muslim teenage boys were talking to me and trying to help me out...even after I had told them I'm American. In general though, how they behave with Thais and Westerners here in Bangkok differs greatly from the South. It must be tough for you to live around people like those neighbors of yours...Hat Yai is very mixed with a lot of Chinese and Thais not to mention Westerners. I hope you can find a way to deal with those nasty neighbors without getting in trouble.

thais in koh samui in general are not nice born and bred im talking about come here stay in there rooms eat in there cafes rent there jet skis drink in there bars they are great live here in your own house buy food in tesco eat in and they show there true colours obnoxious uneducated idiots as for the taxi drivers there must be a training coarse they all go on because they all act the same discurtious rude arogant and mostly not local samuians the children who came here with there builder parents 10 or so years ago mix with tourists all there life are now 16-20 are the worst teenagers i have ever met any where in the world and they can insult you in almost perfect english now thats scary ........... :o:D:D
