  1. Well, that was a disappointment sad.png When I saw the thread title I assumed it would be about the Ratchaphruek Road off Huay Kaew (Runs past Nakornping Condo into Santitham). Oh well, at least Ratchaphruek does have good Taiwanese, Khao Soi and Northern food.

  2. I love an old nostalgia thread and do miss Rustica, they didn't do a bad Pizza and I like it Italian style thumbsup.gif Everyone raves about this and that place but most are either in the tourist district, or out in the boondocks somewhere; neither areas are attractive. Dunno about the best Pizza in Chiang Mai but my favourite in Santitham is at Radchada Cafe (just off the superhighway before Grandview hotel). Their original Pizzaiolo used to work at Guitar Man so they came from a good tradition.

  3. Is it for definite that only women use 'Jaow'? I seem to remember it being used by some men, albeit much less frequently.

As a man you could use it when speaking to a young girl (same as 'kha'), or when you're as gay as a tree full of kittens.

Lot's of my male Thai friends say Jaow - rolleyes.gif - not sure they'd appreciate being likened to a tree full of kittens though, where did that one come from?
  4. Must be a slow Saturday, can't believe I've just read this thread laugh.png

The OP should start a website : ratemytree.com People can post pictures of their trees and viewers rate them. Well, it seems popular on a site with a similar name specializing in measurements of length and girth and there's no need to use trigonometry........sorry, let's not go there whistling.gif

  5. ... where would be a good mix in your opinion - of central - whatever that is in CM - good and plentiful farang and affordability.

I've lived happily in Chang Puek area for many years, it has everything I want. It's largely real Thailand, but with just enough Farang friends and neighbours to maintain a balance with some sanity rolleyes.gif More importantly, it's only five minutes ride to Huay Kaew Road, Kad Suan Kaew and the whole Nimmanheminda area. Plenty of Farang friendly stuff there that isn't touristy.

In more general terms, if you want to be in the city I'd say any of the neighborhoods off Huay Kaew Road are good location wise. Chang Puek and Jed Yot to the North are cheaper than Sirimanklarjarn and Nimmanheminda.

  6. The location is the Night Bazaar Condotel and I have a hunch I wouldlike to be near facilities that I have enjoyed to date such as the Blues Bar and British Pub etc and want a place that is fairly cost effective

I would suggest you think longer term. I lived in this place when I first moved to Chiang Mai. For three months I loved it; a total blast, out partying every night, just like being on holiday. But, after that I totally burned out on the whole scene and the losers who hang around that part of town. I also discovered that the rest of Chiang Mai has so much more to offer, and much nicer people who don't see every passing farang as a trick or meal ticket.

You may well find your perceptions of this area change very rapidly once you start living there, especially if you already have a Thai wife. These days I pretty much have to be dragged screaming to go anywhere near the Night Bazaar and Loi Kroh area.

  7. New hangout for the E and meth heads, like others glad its snowhere near me. Does seem a big project with serious money behind it so should be free of the BIB.

    cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

The location is where the old Playhouse/Simon Cabaret used to be. As there is already another late night club in that area can't imagine the noise will get any worse. Since it's right next to Chiang Mai's most dodgy "entertainment" area you can bet the BIB will be heavily involved.

Apparently it's the people from the old Martini bar that are behind the project. Given how that story went down I wouldn't hold out big hopes for this......rolleyes.gif And the location doesn't exactly have a track record of success.

  8. Anyone know if we can still mail them to Bangkok? The thought of going to C.M. Immigration regularly makes me sick.

I've always sent mine to Bangkok no problems at all, until the last one which came back with an attached note saying in future they would only accept them from people residing in Bangkok and to send the next one to the Chiang Mai office. rolleyes.gif
  9. Sorry mate but i have had a company here for over 5 years and i do know whats what salary wise.Sorry if you paid to much for your glasses ?

Sorry mate but if you "know whats what salary wise" you'd know the minimum wage in Chiang Mai province since 1 April 2555 is 251 Bt per day, and not "around 270 Baht" as you stated above. tongue.png It must be true, it says it on the Employment Department's website: http://www.doe.go.th...ervice/wage.php, new pair of glasses maybe? biggrin.png

I believe that equates to 6526 Bt monthly for daily paid staff working six days per week, and 7530 Bt for monthly paid staff.

  10. For "simple table, nothing fancy" try the furniture area in Thanin Market (Off Chang Puek Road). It's a bit hidden off in the South West Corner see streetview pic:

Don't be fooled by the cheap stuff piled up outside. The guy in the right hand corner shop has made several things to measure for us at very good prices. Sure you can find better quality in Ban Tawai but for basic things his stuff is fine. Better if you can speak Thai though.
