  1. Hi All,

This system is a joke, 16 weeks today and we still don't know, we were told yesterday it would be there 100% but they just tell you what you want to hear.

They say its in the VFS office but has yet to be sorted yet, whatever that means?

I really don't know how much of this i can take, there messing up peoples life's, it the Mrs birthday tomorrow i really hope we get some good news.

  2. Well guys it looks like today's the day of truth, i stayed up phoned VFS who didn't seem a tall positive when i asked them why has it taken 108 days, they told me your wife's application is still in the British embassy, when i asked do you think there's a problem because its taken so long they said maybe but not are decision and that was left there.

I then phoned the British embassy where the operator just tells me NO phone calls to visa section, i pleaded with her but it was a firm NO!

Then through desperation i phone a sort of friend in the embassy to ask if they could help me try to find out whats going on, i haven't had a reply. 30 mins after all this the Mrs phones me to tell me she has to go to Regent House at 1 o'clock this afternoon to pick up the documents and her passport, she said she asked them if she got a visa or not and was told we can't tell you over the phone.

yesterday i emailed and faxed the embassy begging and pleading with them to speed things up. To be honest i haven't a clue to what the outcome of this will be, after reading a lot of other posts it seems the applications what take the longest seem to fail.

I am totally Bricking it! To be honest i really don't know what to think anymore.

    Chris.

  3. Been reading this topic in horror!!!

My wife put her s/v in on the 13th of March, we've still heard nothing. I've sent untold emails, phoned and after reading this have now sent a fax pleading with them for some reply to just let us know we've not been forgotten about. I can't see there being a problem with the info we supplied, i thought if anything it would have been a special case as we suffered a terrible loss. I've never been so low, i really hope they come good.

Would it be worth contacting the foreign office in London seeing as i am in the UK?

After reading this topic it seems like s/v are a lottery pulled out in no order.

    Chris.

  4. To the best of my knowledge the temple and territory belong to Thailand (according to surveys done with help from the American government) if the reverse was true I would support Cambodia in this matter. The big question is how much land does Thailand have to give up to make everyone happy and should Thailand tell Cambodia 'it's ok you can have it' and tells the South 'what the heck go ahead make your own country, we don't need that land' in the name of peace, how much more will everyone else want?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this but when did the Americans do a survey on this and why would they do it?

The territory is in Cambodia, the Thai's who challenged this lost in court and never appealed in god knows how many years in which they had to do so. I can understand Thailand feeling hard done by having the French draw up there border and then Japan trying to move it about at a later date, it's ironic how a country whats never lost a thing according to the Thais has done so badly.

  6. I agree with the comment above, the most important thing in life is life and one's already been stolen, may he rest in peace!

My opinion on who would win is this, if it was just a border war then Cambodia would win hands down, i really don't think Thailand has the stomach for such a conflict, nevertheless the blood spilled on either side would be horrific. If the war was Cambodia trying to take BKK and Thailand trying to take Phnon penn then i think Thailand through its air power and bigger guns would cream it.

  7. I understand your sentiments but in fairness to George, I don't think he's exaggerating or overblowing the situation.

Check these 2 links. The word WAR is used in both articles. Both papers available on-line. BBC has not yet reported story but no doubt will.

    This is news and fact.

This is just media hungry stupidness. This Thread is posted under BREAKING NEWS in thaivisa and its all wrong for this country now. Anyone that has anything to do with this country should more or less do things to make it better than it is right now. its not fun living here if it worsens I have a background in communications so I know how its working. This is just another blow directly into the moneyflow for Thailand.

If ANYONE thinks a thread like this helps Thailand right now, please SPEAK OUT!

No only people that doesnt care a dime what happens here it would post crap like this.

Now its time to keep it together, be smart, be patient. Get this machinery up and running again.

I couldn't disagree with you more, he is the administrator of the news section and his job is to update the section with the latest news. Really what is wrong with that? I for one would like to now whats going on in the country where i am living.

  8. I like the idea of compassion and being kind to other people and giving them the benefit of the doubt. You really do not know how a specific person got to where they are, what circumstances they were born into, what great experiences or traumas they experienced, what mental or physical handicaps they might have, what random misfortune happened to them. Yes, there is free will and alot we can do ourselves to do our best to control our destinies. But the best laid plans, etc., etc. There but for the grace of Warren Buffet go I ...

    I never usually say this...............................................

But that's a great post Jingthing, what snapped i9 for me was the "There For go the grace of god go I "

Many folk can land on hard times, I inow, ThaiVisa members are immune to this in general, buit to the general population, we can suffer hard freekin' times.

I sincerely hope that vou guys, and myself can pull it together, and if not, I'm quite sure there are ThaiVisa members who are willing and able to bitr the bullet, rip off the clothees, recognise the

maigo6? one to many i think. Don't worry we've all left silly reply's from time to time. Go get your head down and log back on later.

  9. You need to take a tough line about this.

After the marriage there should be no more talk about Sin Sod.

It was presented at the wedding ceremony and that is an end to it.

In my case I got the whole sum back later in the day.

The presentation of the money was a matter of "face".

Later there will be sick buffaloes but that is a different matter.

It is an accepted part of Thai life that children are expected to support

    their parents.

Yes it fits well as the government don't provide a pension. Then again Thailand is still developing and the tax rates are low.

  10. For me as a westerner its very simple, from where i from its a custom for the father of the bride to pay for the wedding, from where my wife's from (Thailand) its a custom for the groom to pay sin sod, as its a western Thai marriage we should meet in the middle to respect each others customs. This way we all save face.
