Use shame as a tool. Don't even concern yourself with defamation. Use Facebook. Make his friends, associates and family aware of his moral transgression and ethical breach. Put pressure on him. Don't let it go. He will return your money. I have employed this technique before. It works. Shame is a great tool to use on many Thais, as they are pathologically scared of losing face. Quite pathetic, really.

    .

Thai Criminal Code Section 326, that is defamation.

Although section 330 may be a get out.

  2. Anyone been for a drink anywhere to comment on.?

I've only been to S Bistro and analog which were fine and busy enough.

Generally things are not very encouraging, many places not bothering with the SHA and not serving alcohol. Time all this nonsense was over and places were allowed to conduct their businesses.

I cannot take the credit for the wit but in seriousness, I wonder if Stevie would have preferred to have been in the final with Rangers than managing a mediocre side in the PL. Although he won't openly admit it I bet he's a tad jealous

Well he had no confidence in getting there.

Can anybody explain  why Tiger light and Singha light beer has disappeared  from bars and shops? Is it a tax/ revenue/ license issue?

Singha Light is now MyBeer and is 4.5 abv not the 3.5 as previous.

There is also San Mig Zero, 0% sugar and carbs, 3%abv and I think 60 calories. Not too much of it about though.

I miss the light beer vs regular beer. Light beer has same alcohol content but 1/2 the calories of regular beer, usually around 100 calories.

Trying to cut the sugar and morbid illness it causes. Look at all those unhealthy overweight beer drinkers around.

I think you are referring to San Mig Light only.

No, we drink it to get drunk .

The lesser the alcohol content, the more that needs to be drunk

Not me, I just like pouring it down my throat and getting a decent glow.

A reduced alcohol content means  for me I can have a decent session, not fall over and not be bad in the morning.

    Is Safari bar still there?

It's the first bar I visited on my first trip to Bangkok, around 20 years ago. I loved that place. Lot's of happy memories.

Last time I went past there seemed to be builders working inside.

You're mistaken.  There was never any differentiation, I know, I've been there a time or two.

I am not mistaken, I remember it clearly from the one time I went.

My experience differs from yours. No big deal.

SOL never charged as little as B400 in the 90s and the charge for the use of the small room was always the same as in the bar.

Well I was only there the once in 97 and it was 700 for the "room" and 400 for in the bar.

Do you put ice cubes into your small bottle of Leo light ?

    Never heard of Leo light.

But I only drink in bars, resto's etc and they don't have the wide range that shops do.

Never seen the pleasure in sitting drinking at home.

What a dream come true last night lads

Looking for somewhere to watch the final in Thailand, can’t make it to UK or to Spain, Currently in Krabi but willing travel to BKK / Pattaya / Phuket anywhere the party is.

    Any suggestions ?

I have been away from Patpong etc for a long time.

I can't stay away when I'm in BKK, I just like those old bars even though most of their customers have long since moved on. And as someone pointed out they charge 120 for a 320 ml Thai beer. But I'm not there 4 or 5 times a week putting 8 pints away.

I know a BJ was 600B the last time I was there (many years ago). No idea about the beer prices.

Yes prices went up a bit. My one visit in 97 I was quoted 700 for the "private room" aka the cleaner's cupboard or 400 in the bar.

Is the English pub that used to be in the car park still there?

I used to plays darts in there and also in The Other Old Office in the Bangkok darts league.

Bobby's Arms. No that is long gone Bill, must be 20 years ago. Nice enough place, I had a couple there my first night in Bangkok.

Old Other Office is still going, at least it was about 2 months ago.

I never had beer on my mind when I visited that place (a long time ago).

I plead innocence, I wonder if they will re-open and if the prices have gone up since 97.

I am sure a small Heineken was 80 baht. ????

The Star Of Light comes to mind. One beer was enough.

I remember in my very early days seeing it and thinking "ah, looks like a convivial little alehouse, I'll have one in here."

I like those bars too but I can't feel sorry for anyone who charges 120 for a small bottle of local swill (and pays staff a couple of hundred for a 12 hour day).

They had their decade(s) of raking it in. They should really be fit for retirement.

Good point, they have contributed to their own downfall. Just a shame to see the end of the Madrid, and to see the Crown Royal doing next to nowt. Nothing like them anywhere else in Bangkok.

Would anyone open a bar as "quirky" or as "quaint" as The Old Other Office".?

  18. I feel for the owners and customers of the lovely old bars. And for those who never experienced them and think Bangkok means theme pubs, well good luck to you.

Go-go's and live sex shows never my thing, preferred a few drinks and find a darling of my own for the night.
