  1. I agree with you all, especially the last 5 or 6 posts....

I love driving in Thailand... I love that I don't need to worry about going 3 mph above the speed limit lest I incur a 3 point penally (*of 12)... my latest UK infraction had me charged at 35 mph in a 30 zone... OUCH !!!!.... (10% +2)....

Yes, I was p!is$ed off... so I came back to Thailand and gunned it !!!!... Well, no I didn't... I came back to Thailand and drove responsibly...

AND.... (in Capitals for emphasis of this point)... this is where I expect You, my fellow ThaiVisa friends to recognise the key word above.... (underlined for those who can't!)

We, as a community, web based or otherwise have a common ground... We are interested in the subject we are discussing, if we aren't we'd close this web page and move on... So, that out of the way..... back on topic....

......back in Thailand I Drive with the same level of consideration I have when driving in the UK... BUT... without the fear of traffic cams... But its different...

If I drive the same way in the UK that I drive here, I'd be in trouble... If I drive here the same way I drive in the UK I'd still be there trying to exit my soi...

I like not having to be worried of how I drive here... but that comes at the cost of sharing the roads with those who also enjoy not having to be worried of how they drive here...

I am very sure which is the better 'evil'..... the stats also show this...

So, when 'driving pleasure' is concerned I don't much care for it...... I also have an issue with indiscriminate stupidity and feel we need to make any attempt to avoid it at all costs... However, freedom means we have to remain tolerant of those who's standards fall short of our own...

In short... we have to be 'jai yen'... I just hope the tailgaters would back off.....

    (Caveat: posted while drunk... !)....

They have speed limits in Thailand?................Well I never.whistling.gif

  2. Another fruitless visit to Tesco Khon Kaen.

Just got back without any potatoes or onions.

Looks like a visit to Makro tomorrow.

Makro always seems to have plenty.

    What's your problem with potatoes ( in Lotasss ) laugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.png ;

Here we are in Thailand and potatoes aren't the main course ...

Eat stiky rice and you will not have any problem cheesy.gif

Thai's eat a lot of potatoes, not just rice.coffee1.gif

  3. I am English and my local Immigration office is in Nakhon Sawan. This morning I renewed my retirement extension a month early using the monthly income system using the POI and a letter from the UK embassy.

It took about 30 or 40 minutes start to finish and I went out happily with no problems.

Perhaps it was due to the fact that all the front office staff were ladies or maybe the fact that I bribed them. I bought 10 packs of Ferrero Rocher chocolates and gave 2 pack to each of the ladies but I got a genuine smile from all of them or perhaps because at 71 I am still a hansum man I don't know but it worked for me.

    Another falang supporting corruption.

    Today Chocolates.......Tomorrow ????

  4. Why cant all Immigration offices go by the same rules/laws etc?

This is becoming a pain in the ass for a lot of foreigners, the I.O.

just seem to make their own rules to show us they have control.

I'm a guest in this country so I'm must adhere to the laws of this country

I don't have a problem with that but they keep moving the goal post.

I can see a lot more foreigners moving out because of this & other

B/S that is going on here.

  5. I had an ultrasound in a X Ray clinic in PP about 4 years ago the cost was $15.

    and very professional.

One of the main reasons I left Cambodia was because of the lack of medical knowledge.

Now I have my check ups at the Government hospital in Korat Thailand, excellent staff,

you will have to wait long periods to see a Dr but its worth it. Not a lot of English spoken

but one can still get by.

Stay away from the BKK hospital group unless you have Insurance.

  6. I have lived in & around S.E.Asia since 1981.

I have seen most of the scams etc, but the day I wake up & think

I know it all will be the day Im in trouble. There are always new scams around.

If she is still on a dating site you register under a different name & a

picture of another man then contact her and show some interest in her

you may just get a shock of what she says & does.

A couple of old sayings around Asia are.

If it walks & talks like a Duck then it most likely is a Duck.

You can take the girl out of the bar but you cant take

the bar out of the girl.

One warning sign is Does she speak English?

If you are new to Asia one bit of advice I can give you is.

Keep your guard up 25 hours a day.

Now your reply may be "You dont understand this is different"

  7. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said.

The owners of these shops are usually paying big rent and have a lot of money invested in their business.

This is world wide not just in Thailand.

I made inquiry last week about getting retail space in the new Central shopping mall in Korat,

forget it, they want 800,000B key money. That will give you an idea of the money some of these business

    invest.

  8. Thanks members, It seems that the motorist are happy with the MAXXIS tyres.

I have for the past 20 years plus have put Bridgestone tyres on my cars but Im not happy with

this lot, they have done 30,000k and they have become very noisy on the road.

I dont drive long distance at high speed its mainly used for around town now.

There is a good saving on the MAXXIS compared to the price of Bridgestone.

    Another question?

Which are the quiet tyres in your opinion?
