  1. On the chalk board in front of the place it lists a number of deli items and also says "vegetarian food". Vegetarian food? Good God man, have the power of your convictions.

It was a moment of weakness. A long continuing moment of weakness. It's even worse than you say. There are actually some vegan items in there. Like the lentil salad. But you can always have some bacon tossed into it. We are thinking of putting in some seats upstairs where customers can eat vegetarian food and keep their anonymity. Maybe even closed booths.

  2. The photos really look promising. I will definitely pay you guys a visit when i am in CM end of the month.

May i know what kind of beef you use for your sandwiches ?

For our roast beef it's New Zealand grass fed beef

I dropped by a late morning to try the New Zealand roast beef sandwich.

I also ordered a cup of coffee. The coffee was good and the possibly

the hottest I've ever gotten here in Thailand, but the sandwich?

It was two slices of bread split in three, with a chunk of roast beef

in between. No tomato, no lettuce, and I only realized after eating the

mini-salad that came in a small separate finger-sized that it was the

"Mustard-Horseradish sauce" mentioned in the menu.

Having a few minutes earlier had no success in understanding whether

I could, as the menu seemed to indicate, chose between rare and medium

roasted beef when ordering the sandwich, I pondered, while eating one

of the three sandwich pieces, whether I should bother asking the staff

    about the missing ingredients.

After chewing for a while I decided to ask, and after another moment of

confusion, I was brought a plate with three slices of tomato and some

lettuce. I had in the meantime finished the second of my three sandwich

pieces, so I ate two of the tomato slices there and then, and decorated

my last sandwich piece with the remaining slice and some lettuce.

In addition, the napkin my utensils were packed in was visibly stained

on the front, though the utensils looked clean.

Your mileage may vary of course, but I think I'll stick to Amazing

Sandwich myself, even though it's unfortunately some years since

they moved out of the centre.

PS. It appears one can not chose between rare and medium roasted beef

on the sandwich, which I'd agree would be quite unusual, though impressive,

if possible. At least I did my best to order the rare version, but got

    something that was medium-to-well done.

It [the sandwich] was two slices of bread split in three,…

First off, the sandwich is not 2 slices split into 3. It is 3 slices cut diagonally to make 1 ½ sandwiches which is our standard serviing. Which your photos clearly show.

…with a chunk of roast beef in between.

As for the chunk of roast beef, I am puzzled. Your own photo shows only slices of roast beef.

..and I only realized after eating the mini-salad that came in a small separate finger-sized that it was the "Mustard-Horseradish sauce" mentioned in the menu.

In your photo,I also see the mustard horseradish untouched in a small glass bowl right behind the salad.. The mini salad is a separate thing. Not even advertised. Something we just throw in.

Having a few minutes earlier had no success in understanding whether I could, as the menu seemed to indicate, chose between rare and medium roasted beef when ordering the sandwich

Our staff remembered you well and said one of their problems was that they couldn't understand your Thai. They tried to communicate with you in English and you refused . You probably would have had better luck since the staff is used to dealing with English restaurant words.

I pondered, while eating one of the three sandwich pieces, whether I should bother asking the staff about the missing ingredients.

Couldn't you have just asked about this before you started to eat the sandwich? Did it really require pondering? The staff should have included the tomato and lettuce in the sandwich. Perhaps they patronize that deli in Hollywood referred to in the following post. They told us that most patrons don't want it so they decided unilaterally not to include it. They shouldn't have. Thank you for bringing that to our attention.

After chewing for a while I decided to ask, and after another moment of confusion, I was brought a plate with three slices of tomato and some lettuce.

Again, was there some kind of momentum issue involved? Once you start to eat you can't stop?

In addition, the napkin my utensils were packed in was visibly stained on the front, though the utensils looked clean.

Not good. I would have sent it back.

PS. It appears one can not chose between rare and medium roasted beef on the sandwich, which I'd agree would be quite unusual, though impressive, if possible. At least I did my best to order the rare version,...

Perhaps one could if one tried to accommodate the staff and used English as well as Thai. As noted before, the staff didn't understand your Thai.

I do want to thank you for taking photos, though. Since it shows that many of your comments were not as justified as they might have been and has set my mind considerably at rest.

Still, since the meat you got was medium or medium rare , and not rare, we will offer you a second sandwich and non alcoholic beverage at our expense. I will PM you a code word.

  5. GPS: 18.787992,98.993975

These coordinates in Google Maps show a side street off of Thapae Road?

The other day they showed the correct location, today they're a little bit off. If you do a close up view it shows the location of Boots which is right on the corner next to us.

  6. If you like, we can email you an Excel version of our menu.

Can you not just make the menu an attachment to your post? TIA

I tried. Apparently, whatever system it is that the forum runs on won't accept files like this.

  9. Butter is Better is now offering Whole Wheat Pizza by the Slice. It's a thin crust pizza with topping like you'd find in New York.

We've got regular, which is standard cheese and tomato. Then there's pepperoni which is the same except with... wait for it ...pepperoni. Regular goes for 35 baht per slice. Pepperoni 50 baht per slice

The pizzas are about 13 inches in diameter and we get 6 slices from each. Which means on the average you get about 22 square inches of pizza. Bring your calipers if you have any doubts

It tastes so good, you might not even notice that the crust is whole wheat. 100% whole wheat.

The recipe for the crust is the product of years of research. Not our research, though. We stole it.

If you have suggestions for any other toppings short of armadillo, feel free.

  10. It's very good. The owner is a Yemeni who made a pit stop in Israel before coming here. So it's Yemeni style. The pita bread is the best I've ever had. It doesn't have a pocket but it's really chewy with lots of flavor. I believe his wife makes those. She also makes the felafel and the pickled vegetables and the hummus..you get the picture. I am no authority on mideast food, but it tastes really genuine to me. All I've eaten there so far is the hummus and felafel plate. It costs 150 baht (or did ) but they give you enough food for 2.

Also the owner is a genuinely friendly guy.

They have other Yemeni dishes there I've been meaning to try, but the hummus plate is so good I keep on having that.

  11. Dacheeso's whole milk is excellent. As good as any pasteurized milk I've ever had. It is also unhomogenized. Meiji in the roughly 850 ml plastic bottles is also really good.

Actually, I think thai milk and cream, at least the non UHF kind is superior to most milk in America. Here they still do low temperature pasteurization, so the milk can taste just like raw milk. And the cream whips beautifully. Dacheeso cream is as good as I've had anywhere in Europe. Remarkable stuff.

The milk in boxes is okay, but doesn't have that special dairy flavor that raw milk and low temperature pasteurized milk do.

Wow! That assessment is in total opposition to my experience of most dairy products here. And as far as Meiji goes, :bah: .

I concur. Their dairy products are quite poor and tasteless IMHO. Their cheese is really not edible.

There are basically 3 classes of Dacheeso products. Their fresh milk products which include milk, cream, cottage cheese, lactobacillus products like yogurt and buttermilk, and aged cheeses. The first 2 are excellent. The aged cheeses are mostly very lightly aged and bland. I suspect they are tailored for Thai consumers who mostly feel about well aged cheese the way most farangs feel about shrimp paste or Pla Ra.

  13. My experience with SMEG has not been good. Service people for serious problems, like replacing parts, have to come from Bangkok and it can take a month for the service people to get here. We kind of gave up on them for years after they didn't even show up a few times because they had scheduled too many appointments. Last month they did come in about 2 weeks to fix a lot of problems with our stove including one burner that had never worked from the start. Just today, one burner that they fixed, the big one, failed again.

I think that Mex might be a better bet. I believe that they do have local service people in Chiang Mai. But don't take my word for it.

Also I remember a few years ago someone posting a similar complaint about SMEG. Somehow he contacted the HQ in Italy and they finally set his problem right.
