  1. I doubt that I am alone in detesting both 'rap music' and human beings who enjoy 'rap music'.

Where has my 'Cheap Charlie' thread gone?

WOW that's a bit of a small minded statement Syd.

I agree rap music is shit but you can't detest the people who enjoy it. I hate soap operas but don't hate my mum.

Your logic is ratiocinated but you misinterpret (or in the case of rap music should I say 'snafu') my original point.

If someone enjoys rap music then they fall into a sub-human category IMHO rather like someone who takes YABA.

In fact I have NEVER met anyone who I like, who likes 'Rap' music.

But there again, I remain a very pigheaded individual.

  2. RE: Lady with White Face

The sad facts are, the woman with the white face and blood-shot eyes who chain smokes cigarettes and walks down the middle of the road and reads bar-ladies palmars for 40 baht is:

She was brutally assaulted in 1993 by Middle Eastern gentlemen who paid her huge compensation which she initially banked and then showed off her bank passbook to passers-by. The money has long gone and she now lives in abject poverty off Soi Buckhaew trying to make a few coppers on her daily beat up soi 6 and 7 etc.

  3. I used to go regularly to Rich Man Poor Man's for a decent pizza.

But I stopped going following an incident with rude & abusive staff.

However the pizzas are definitely O.K. and worth a try if you are passing.

  4. Real consequences would be blackballing the person for a 3 or 5 year (or maybe longer) period of time from returning to Thailand. Does not make sense to prevent an overstay from leaving but from returning - get rid of the deadwood. Now if you catch them way overstaying as a result of on interaction with law enforcement and this is discovered (not by immigration sweeps to pocket baht) then this is the grey area where LE and immigration have to figure out and standardized (good luck with this in Thailand) a relatively equal and fair consequences.

Bottom line for me is play by the rules = no worries.

I must say that I have to agree with those who are astonished by the audacity of anyone who feels he/she can stay in a foreign country in total contravention of its immigration laws.

How would the home country of these people deal with any similar counterparts? I suspect that there would be probes into finances/earnings/bank/savings accounts and action taken to recover unpaid taxes (whilst the culprit remained in detention)!

The Thai authorities should make a very loud and clear announcement:

"You have thirty days to show up and ship out, with sufficient funds to pay for your overstay, in order to avoid detention"...after that, the full weight of the law should be enforced in the form of a two-year prison sentence.

With luck, those of us who are then left here, and who have consistently demonstrated our adherence to Thai immigration laws, may become better thought of!

I know someone who overstayed seven years, turned up at his local immigration office and said he didn't have the 20,000 baht fine or a plane ticket. He went to jail for 8 days, a return one way flight was arranged from funds from family in the U.K. and he left Thailand.

Six months later he was back here on a short holiday, no questions asked.

  5. In Friendship Supermarket Campbells condensed soup is on sale for 53 baht per tin.

Exactly adjacent to the Campbells condensed soup is 'Ligo' condensed soup, it's the same sized tin, looks the same and I can assure you, tastes the same, but priced at only 14 baht per tin.

That is a massive saving of 378%

  6. Down at the Chayapreuk end of Jomtien Beach Road, the Hulk Hogan wannabe, wears nothing but shorts day or night, very tanned body, greased up aging muscles and bleached white hair and moustache.

    He really makes me laugh.

  7. a fool and his money ( possesions) are soon parted

Really what a daft comment. Because someone gets robbed they are now a fool ?

Or, should everyone walk around Pattaya in flipflops, shorts and a singlet with 500 baht in cash just incase they happen to get targeted by criminals ?

The mindset of some of the posters on TV who chose to blame the victims of crime really baffles me - 'its tantamount to saying the girl deserved to be raped because she was attractive'

    Well said.

I did not bother to respond to this asinine post by 'phuketrichard' because I realise that on open forums you do get people with limited intelligence, no education and an absolutely retarded outlook on social intercourse.

  8. This might be the start of a worrying trend of mugging in Pattaya by taser gun.

I think that most long time residents here don't wear neck chains, don't carry large sums of cash and don't wear genuine expensive watches or walk along the beachside of Pattaya Beach Road after dusk; (when alone.)

If crimes like this continue in Pattaya it will, over time, have a negative upon tourism.

  9. Coffee is definitely addictive.

I recall once going 6 months without a single cup, then after restarting being 'hooked' after just a few cups.

Caffeine is an ingredient mixed-in with some analgesics (paracetamol & asperin) because it works in conjunction as a remedy for headache.

  10. It's definitely not a pick-up place, but a great place to meet with friends for a quite beer and a chat.

I agree. I have not been for a while but I really like the place and you can take some great photos at dusk.

Can anyone remind me of approximate bottled beer prices?

I seem to remember that a TV get-together started there 12 months ago.

  11. It must be a sad life for a lot of posters when they spend their days looking for the cheapest beer, coffee, restaurant, dinner deals, toilet rolls etc in Pattaya.

Look at my avatar do I look sad?

I derive great pleasure from bargain hunting and saving money. The money saved I spend on luxuries at Christmas & New Year.

A baht saved is a baht earned.

Yes, there are a lot of C/C's in Pattaya, but that is because so many people are on a fixed income (pension or benefits) and are suffering from the strength of the Thai currency.

  12. i pass this place 6 days a week in the evening around dinner time and have never seen anyone eating there. My guess is it won't last long

The Tikka Centre on Soi Bukaow - top of Soi Honey - is also pretty good if you're in that part of town.

    DM

How recently have you visited this place? When it first opened about 4/5 years ago it was O.K. but quality went downhill fast and there was a thread about how it had (sadly) gone downhill.

  13. ......the ones that continually go on and on about ridiculous ways of saving a few baht are a total waste of space.

So people who want to save money are a waste of space?

    Latest Tip:

Carrefour (Pattaya Klang) has a generic branded coffee (soft pack) on sale: 200g of instant coffee for the same price as 100g of Nescafe.
