  1. The curse of Village life.

They do my head in also, so I built my house on the edge of the village.

My first ever village trip was on Song gran, arrived at 0130 in the morning at the outlaws house, that was slap bang in the middle of the village. to find they had one of the trucks there with some huge speaker stack on, blasting out randomly all through the night.. great after an 8 hour drive from Pattaya.

Then one of the local low cow t***s turn up and stars harrasing the new Farrang.. I was just about to spark him about before he got taken away.

    Great into to the Village...

I have often thought of getting some monster speakers and just start gobbing off randomly at night when they are all in bed, about 8.30. Or you could use it to say hi to all the rubber neckers staring at the Farrang in his house....

The pin trick is up my sleave now if i ever need it.

    Cheers

  2. Got it,

Ignore where the map says Si Chomphu as it is before then.

Take the first left before the second 228 road number between wang phoem and Si Chomphu.

You are on the right road now and the signs are in Thai.

  3. If you take the time to design it properly, it does not have to look like some prison.

I have a large garden area around the house about 1 rai so the place is not closed in.

I like to live my own Farrang life without every Tom Dick and Harry coming around when they feel like it to have a look.

The people in the village do not take offence and I get on great with them all, I dont cut myself off from them just because I have a nice protected house.

  4. HI,

Its further past Si Chomphu than that.

If you are heading from Chum Phae go through Si Chomphu about 2 to 3 Km

The second sign you see with the number 3 on it turn left, immediatlely on your left then will be a school football pitch and a Wat,

The road winds a bit out the first village then you will see a place on your right, called Tbones farm. you will then hit another village, go to the end of this village and turn right and a left at the t junction..

They are just improving the road at this bit now.

YOu will then come to a long straight about 5km then a sharp left and right, keep on this road and you want to head toward Tep Chomphu ( this is my Village Big House on the road into the village).

keep following the road and you wil go around another village, you will then hit a dirt track and have to make a left turn until you find the temple.

Its sign posted on the road in but only in Thai.

Sorry if this discription is a bit crappy but i dont have any mapping to look at at the mo to post a proper route.

I will sort something out when i can.

The temple is ok by the way, a bit of an eye sore though as they have stuck this concrete monster temple on the side of the hill, right next to the cave.

Send me message if you want to go and i can sort some better instructions or give you a thai phone number to make things easier.

    Enjoy.

  5. "If I were going to break into a home with an electric fence, the fence would help me. I'd cut the wires to see what happened. If nothing happened, I'd assume that no one is home and go on in"

You are thinking like a Farrang in this comment, this is pure magic to them all... Unless they are some skilled outback burglar they wont even mess with it...

I also have a dummy camera on my front gate..........

The best of it is, i have even had the local cops around and they have been waving at it..... PMSL

  6. Great bit of posting.

Have to make a comment on one thing though, just becasue you see another Farrang why does that mean you have to go and speak to them? Not that I am a grumpy <deleted>,

I love living in Issan... would not change it.

  7. You are right, most people do live in Issan because of their girlfriend.... But they do enjoy it.. saying that I have just read another post on the miserable ****s hanging around in the city areas... yeah they are there.

I love living in my house (on the outskirts of the village) away from the speakers.. etc.

I break up my time, as i still have a job out of the country and just go back and forth to work, but just beacuse you live in issan does not mean you can not enjoy the rest of Thailand. i have travelled all over since living in Issan and it does not break the bank getting a flight somewhere else to do a bit of exploring.

I did the Pattaya scene for a couple of years...yeah great and i still love to go back there, but living there for good just aint me.

I have built a big house, got it walled off and have my own land. We grow some vegetalbles, have a great garden in the house. I have 2 big ponds full of fish, ( used the soil to build up the land), they cost me hardly anything to run.

Also got 13 Rai behind the house to grow my rice on.

And of course a car.. made sure i got a Vigo, to cope with the crappy roads.

I love getting out and about and driving around looking at different things. you will find that the typical Thais in built GPS only has a 30km range, so you have to explore yourself.

No Farrang mates in the area, i have touched base with a few people but no been around at the time to meet up with them.

    Enjoy Issan.

  8. Hi Guys,

Just been reading all the posts on this topice.

I am away working at the mo but back in Feb, i live a bit further up north outside Si Chomphu, but often visit Chum Phae to do banking / pick up bits and bobs etc....

I will try and see if I get time to check out some of these venues when I am back next.

    Take it easy and enjoy.

  9. HI,

Just wanted to add my bit on this.

I have got an electric fence set up around my house.

I have a 6 foot wall surrounding my house with a 3 strand overhang barb wire on top. Inside that i have screwed in the insulating rings and run the electric fence wire.

I purchased the engergiser, inuslators and wire off ebay, as the unit come from the US it is 110v so i got a transformer from home pro. But I have now purchased a solar panel and a car battery so the unit runs its self without any cost to me.

I have it all rigged up the garage and have put a switch on the wall so the GF can turn it on and off easy. I am still thinking of adding an additional switch inside the house... as we all know how lazy the thais can be...

I also got some thai signs warning high voltage from Global and put them on the wall....

And to help with this the boss man told the locals I have a big gun and if they come near my house....

If you are naive enough to think you dont need any protection, then crack on. Have a good detterant and keep the thieves out.

Also get a dog or 2, my 2 are on the ball anyone comes near the place they bark like mad.

  10. I have put some plug sockets in my loft and fitted some of the electronic plug in reppellers.. seems to work a treat apart from the small bodied long legged spiders everything else has cleared out...

    Will keep rats etc away..

  11. I recently have been touring around Thailand and you will always get charged by Air Asia for anything over the 15Kg they charge 84bht per kilo. This is for domestic so i dont know if international is more expensive.

I also took a few flights with Nok around Thailand and they are not so stringent on the rules, once I was 22kgs over and only got charged for 7.. so cant complain at that.

The best was sometimes is to just do it the Thai way.... pack a bag without any washing stuff.. no fluids etc and just take it on the plane with you, i used to stick by the limits.. but what the hel_l when everyone else does it just go for it.

  13. Hi All,

My house will shortly be finished not to far away from Si Chompu up from Chum Phae.

I am looking to furnish my house from scratch and was thinking of heading to Kohn Khaen to do the shopping can anyone advise me of any good furniture shops in Kohn Khean.

    Also any DIY shops.

    Regards

  14. Just tried using the GPRS modem on the latest version of Parallels and its working fine, lots of new improvements on the USB side.

So if you have got a mac, there is some hope for the software that can only run on Windows..

    Cheers
