  1. Let the negotiations begin. A few land transfers here, a few offshore accounts there, before you know it Jo Ferrari gets a death sentence which is subsequently reduced to 18 months in jail (suspended for one year for confessing and previous good character) and a 2000 Baht fine. Justice. Thai sty.
  2. The only people at significant risk will be the unvaccinated. It is their choice to go to the restaurant unvaccinated so if they contract Covid while there, to put it bluntly that is their problem. Their life, their choice. I am not anti vax and am eagerly awaiting my second shot, hopefully next month. But if people don't wish to be vaccinated that is up to them and they will have to live (or not as the case may be) with the consequences of that decision. Let individuals decide. I certainly don't want to live in a 'papers please' society with medical apartheid because certain people wish to decide what other people have to put into their bodies.
  3. Probably because the police are protecting the PM (who stole power illegally) from the Thai people. As we saw a couple of days ago when a gang of thuggish Thai cops kicked those young protesters off their bikes, shot rubber bullets at them and beat them as they lay on the ground. Not to mention that the Army is equally as corrupt, as we saw with ol' fatty and his collection of Rolexes borrowed from a dead friend. Or the convicted drug dealer tipped by some to be Prayut's replacement. They're all as bad as each other. There will be no cleanup, only the occasional conviction of low hanging fruit to pretend they are tackling the issue, and only when deemed absolutely necessary because the stench has become too obvious and too odious for even the downtrodden Thai people to pretend to ignore.
  4. The CCP won't be allowing their citizens into Thailand until Thailand has all but eliminated Covid. Certainly not without harsh quarantine for said tourists when they return to China. Why would they take such a risk? They have nothing to gain by allowing it and everything to lose. It's pretty safe to say that mass Chinese tourism to Thailand is done for the best part of a decade. Every cloud has a silver lining.
  5. Well let's face it, having a constant supply of uneducated, insular, overly patriotic and unambitious individuals entering the workforce at 300 Baht a day is quite handy for the Elites. They have no interest in providing education for the proles, especially when they could just keep the money required for such an education in the Benz fund.
  6. Encouraging news. I think a gradual easing of lockdown measures is appropriate now. Let people decide for themselves by giving them a level of autonomy and personal responsibility. That way, those who wish to get on with their lives can do so with what they consider to be the appropriate degree of caution. Those who wish to remain in lockdown for another 6-12 months are also free to do so.
  7. Yep, this could have been a 10 pager if it was a bulldog mixed with a street dog/ridgeback that some ignorant sensationalist reporter thought resembled a PitBull. The chicken littles will have to keep their powder dry for now. Maybe next time guys. ????
  8. Cases declining in line with the number of tests declining. It seems someone wants to create the impression we are on the way to unlocking in October.
  9. They seem to be talking about the quarantine that the tourist has to do when they go home after visiting a Covid hotspot like Thailand, not during the visit TO Thailand. It's a shame your hero, the self declared Covid Czar wasn't smart enough to buy vaccines for the inhabitants of the country. The place would be open to domestic tourism by now and even foreign tourists might have wanted to visit. We'd all be free to go about our daily business. But alas, he didn't have even the limited amount of intelligence required to work out that the way out of this was to vaccinate everyone. So here we are, in lockdown, hundreds of people dying every day, the economy in tatters.
  10. Yep, by exactly the same amount as a single shot of AZ without the initial Sinovac dose. But the Junta is making a fortune peddling Sinovac, hence the constant purchases.
  11. Sounds more and more like you need something like a Super Cub or a Honda Wave/Click. Cheap to buy (even a noob wouldn't get ripped off as recommended retail prices are easily available), extremely cheap to maintain - and if you don't maintain it then it will probably last ages anyway as they are bullet proof. Easy to sell (or cheap enough to give away without worrying after using it for a few years). I think buying electric would create headaches, not solve them. Good luck whatever you decide.
  12. I think something like a Honda Super Cub is much more practical. The amount of fuel they use is really negligible and they have many benefits such as range, ease of refueling, speed and I'd imagine ease of selling/better resale value. Electric motorbikes also look a bit <deleted> IMO. I have an electric bicycle which I occasionally use to get to the MRT/BTS when traffic is particularly bad and/or taxis are scarce. Or sometimes I use it for a bit of early morning exercise when I get bored of the treadmill (by not using the motor and simply riding somewhere until I've had enough and then turning it on and cruising home) but it doesn't get used that much. I keep it in a spare bedroom in my condo and charge it there.
  13. Exactly. I hope this doesn't work the other way around and they do something like make cigarettes illegal and then lock up everyone who smoked in the 2 years prior to the law being passed, while it was still legal to do so. What a debacle. I suspect this is simply a way to legitimize releasing a load of prisoners due to the Covid situation in the jails.
  14. Looks like a fun project. Do you know the last time it was taxed? I think if it hasn't been taxed for 3 years it can be difficult to get the tax and Por Lor Bor. They kind of cut it off from the system. Anyway, just something to check. Good luck with the restoration.
  15. At this rate the powers that be will need to replace Prayut with another Army General that's completely unqualified and unable to run a country. Democracy. Thai sty.
  16. Silly people. Don't they realize that wearing it as a chin strap is the go to position for anyone in Thailand who can't be bothered to wear it. That way, at least it looks like you're trying to be a good person which let's face it, is the main reason a lot of people wear it.
  17. I saw the same when I went for a little drive today to pick up a few things and cure the boredom after 3 days in the condo. It's amazing how busy it is. Loads of traffic around sukhumvit, lots of pedestrians and construction workers milling about. One well known soi near Asoke had at least 5 massage places with the doors open (not traditional massage) with 1 or 2 girls blatently sat outside in their usual short skirts and tight tops, not even pretending the place was closed. With this type if thing and the protests ongoing it's hard to see how Delta is just going to fizzle out in BKK.
  18. Poor taxpayers in the US putting money into the pockets of corrupt Thai millionaire politicians. What an uplifting story ????.
  19. Where did I say it would have been illegal to opt out? Oh that's right, I didn't. I said it never would have happened for political reasons had we remained a member. If you genuinely believe that just because something is legal that it is also politically viable then I don't really think I have much to gain from our discussion. Either you don't understand the machinations of the EU, or more likely you are being deliberately disingenuous.
  20. While you're at it, why don't you Scots hold a referendum on the next POTUS and inform the Americans of the result? It would hold about as much weight. If you did choose to go such a route, I can only see a couple of issues. 1. Polls show most Scots still want to Remain in the UK, so you'd lose (again!). 2. After you lost, you'd create another excuse why it didn't count and call for Indyref3. Apart from that, sounds like a great idea.
  21. In my experience, a verbal commitment from a Thai organization isn't worth the paper it isn't written on.
  22. Sounds like they've just added the word "Sandbox" for effect. The teachers have been vaccinated and they will test the kids. But there is no sandbox (unless the kids, teachers and other staff are all going to be sealed in the school for long periods).
  23. I really hope this is a trend and that we've seen the peak. However, I think more likely is that people are doing ATK tests at home instead of going to a hospital and all the inconvenience and risk that entails, and hence many new infections from these home tests are not being included in the figures.
  24. Yep, nothing to worry about at all. Just another embarrassing defeat for the Anti English SNP and their nationalist extremist supporters. All a bit of a waste of time though. Maybe we'll allow it in a decade or so, once Covid has blown over and even the most blinkered Remainers have seen that the UK is thriving outside of the corrupt protectionist racket that is the EU. No rush...
  25. Don't hold your breath. Most Scots still want to stay in the UK, just as they voted to in 2014. A minority of nationalist extremists doesn't change that fact.
