so the comments yesterday that is was noisy so he had to raise his voice is all nonsense, it wasn't noisy and he had a microphone. Yet people still make excuses for him

    Indeed.

The video says it all really. Shouting at what he no doubt sees as a peasant that doesn't know his place. Yet still the usual sycophants defend him. Quite a few threads they need to avoid these days.

I think he should have waited for the other party to finish speaking. That is how its done in civilized conversation. Then he can have his say. I guess you never heard of basic etiquette.

If you dont follow it there will be chaos, i guess you interrupt people not letting them finish their sentence and think its normal.

That is what is what happened you cam fault the PM for many things but he was in the right here.

And yet his team have apologized, so even they admit he was wrong to do it - credit to them, even they have more backbone than some of the spineless sycophants on here.

  3. I've stored gasoline on my balcony but only for a couple of days when I had to drain the gas tank and it was either the balcony or in the car. If you're going to do it, buy a proper "jerry can" container like below (HomePro sells them for a few hundred Baht) that has the self venting design and keep it in the shade.

I wouldn't do it long term.

Well, for one the table is incomplete. According the the agreement http://www.mofa.go.jp/region/asia-paci/thailand/epa0704/annex1.pdf check page 50, bike up to 250cc should have had no duties from the beginning. And above 800cc, final duty is 20%.

I'm not sure if the excise tax 35% and interior tax 10% are charged on Japanese imports. But VAT 7% surely is, which brings the Thai price of the Z900 in my example above to be more consistent with the USA one.

Depends on the model it seems. An R1 is almost 30,000 USD here in Thailand. Other bikes like the Z900 and MT09 are closer to US prices but still more expensive here.

I'm guessing the manufacturers kept the prices up and pocketed the difference as extra profit, which is pretty lame when you consider the strength of the Baht would already benefit them when importing.

I fail to see the problem. If I listen to someone and then get loudly interrupted when I try to answer, I'll tell that person to shut up and let me finish as well. It has nothing to do with hubris or thinking you're better than anyone else.

If you're gonna bash Prayut, do it for something that actually justifies it.

Context. If it was 2 people who knew nothing of each other then I would agree with you as I dislike impoliteness.

If I was a fisherman who was struggling to feed my family since an Army General had led a coup to remove a government that I had voted for, I might also find myself a bit hot under the collar if I didn't like the answer. The fisherman spoke out of turn, the General led a coup. I think I might have more sympathy for the fisherman on this one.

Ah you think 2 wrongs make a right i get it.

Fishermen should accept that the sea should be managed for future generations and to keep the US and EU market open.

I take it you dont mind it if they rape the ocean. You sound real sensible.

Don't put words in my mouth. I'm saying that respect is earned. You can't talk down to people, throw half eaten bananas at them etc. for 3.5 years and expect them to respect you.

The fisherman is entitled to have his say whether or not we agree with his opinion. If Mr P wants respect as a (self imposed) leader, he should adjust the way he addresses the Thai people, they are not his soldiers and they did not sign up to his military.

Maybe you think the poor little serf should have got down on his knees and put his hand up, waiting for permission to address the great leader?

Yea by raping the ocean now and the hell with everyone else. Prayut is doing the right thing.

The guy was totally impolite then you can expect this. I guess you were never taught not to shout or raise your voice when someone else is speaking

Better to rape the ocean than the entire country.

Maybe the serf should follow Prayut's example, who of course displays the height of manners and respectfulness. Throwing bananas at reporters having just taken a bite out of it is lovely behavior. Countless other examples, not to mention the coup of course which displays zero respect for the wishes of the people. Respect is earned and quite frankly a frustrated serf raising his voice after over 3 years of the D word (yes, that's what it is despite the fancy acronyms) is the least he can expect, he should count his lucky stars.

    ...perhaps profit motive....

Setting an unrealistic sales price does not generally increase overall profit. It reduces sales units, otherwise a Honda Wave would be 100k Baht. Jonnyf hopes papa understands this.

BMW pricey in Thailand?  Nah never!  I do like the look of those two model mind.  I'll have to put them in my bucket list of purchased and then they will probably end up in the pool room...

    Cheers cobber

The old F800 was 550k if I remember correct, the 700 was under 500k. So if they keep the prices similar for the 2018 750 and 850 models then they're in the same ball park as the AT.

  10. They should really be focusing on all forms of littering (bags, polystyrene, beer cans, bottles etc.) and provide bins that are emptied daily.

However, I can't say I'm really sad about the smoking ban. Having someone's smoke (and ashtray contents on a windy day) blow all over me just as a beer and seafood arrives on my beach table is pretty annoying. When I smoked I'd take it upon myself to move away from other people (especially if they were eating) if I wanted to spark up, but unfortunately a lot of smokers don't have the same consideration for others. I just hope they implement it properly, I suspect it will just be used to extort cash from tourists.

Should't matter if planing on riding, not selling.

You wouldn't want those upgrades if you were actually riding the bike?

I'm looking forward to some reviews of the all new 2018 BMW's, the 750 on the left is very tempting as a touring bike and it looks like they've aimed at the AT with the 850 on the right. Both nice looking and decent specs but maybe a bit pricey in Thailand?

If Benelli is Chinese then by definition Ducati is German. Ja?

You could make a reasonably strong argument for that. Ducati has certainly upped it's game in terms of reliability and build quality since being taken over. Similarly Benelli have started blatantly copying other companies designs so you can see the influence of a change of ownership in both cases.

Oh--well, you know 'cause you know. Well, no point in discussing further. We have a lot such posters here.

Nope, not necessarily, pal. In fact the venerable daily checkpoint in front of the Pattaya police station has no high ranking officials out front, no police trucks, no flashing lights, cordons, tables and chairs, Gazebos or anything else. Just one or at most two lowly ranked cops out there stopping whom they please. And there's no shakedown. I sometimes sit at a nearby bar and watch. No money requested; tickets are issued. You wouldn't know it's a checkpoint until a cop steps out in front you. Yes, of course the police station is right there, but my point is that simple-minded binary thinking doesn't help your case. Just one example.

Rather, I can't help you, sorry. :jap:

Seeing as you clearly have no common sense, I'll help you.

    http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/new-bangkok-police-chief-enforce-traffic-law-strictly-lifts-traffic-checkpoints/

In case that's too complicated for you to read. I'll quote this line to make it really easy for you.

However he stressed that there must be a senior police officer on duty at the checkpoint, and prior approval must be sought from the MPB deputy commissioner in charge of traffic before it is set up.

Or maybe you know better than Pol Lt-Gen Chanthep Sesawech as well?

No, a checkpoint doesn't need to have cones to be legal and you don't know of any rule that says that. You must be new around here except like a lot of noobs are eager to show you know all about police wrongdoings. Being less obvious is sometimes a good way to catch lawbreakers. These were caught.

I didn't mention cones. New is a relative term, but I've been riding bikes and driving cars in Bangkok for around 11 years and have been stopped dozens of times. I can tell the difference between a legit stop where they want to issue legit tickets and one of these "couple of low ranking cops trying to make money stops" from about 100 yards away.

The legit stops generally have 5 or more officers including a high ranking official. There will often be a couple of police trucks there. Normally in daytime, but at nighttime they are well lit with flashing lights and the road is cordoned off to an extent. There are tables and chairs set up, often some kind of Gazebo for people to take tests and for tickets to be issued or fines paid. The difference between the 2 is stark.

These 2 clowns on scooters running into the dimly lit road and waving their torch was a shakedown. If you can't see that, I can't really help you.

Read the article. It was a legal checkpoint:

Next issue, could they have stopped?

Partly correct. They knew it was a checkpoint and could have slowed and stopped. They intended to run it no matter what. The cop wrongly assumed they would slow and stop as they could have. Bad assumption, all in all.

I don't care what the article says, maybe the author didn't fancy upsetting the local police? I'd rather reach a conclusion from what I see with my own eyes rather than what some "journalist" on a 2 bit website tells me to believe.

2 cops at the side of the road in the middle of the night waving a torch is not a legal checkpoint. It's a shakedown.

  16. These illegal police checkpoints need to stop. Most people wouldn't stop if a mugger asked them to, so why stop when a corrupt cop at an illegal shakedown at 2am asks you to?

I also had a cop punch me in one these shakedowns. I was in the outside lane of a 3 lane road on my bike (with a car tailgating me) and he jumped out at the last minute and expected me to brake and swerve across 2 lanes of heavy traffic to pay his bribe. When I didn't he did some kind of flying punch into my shoulder as I passed him. Fortunately me and the bike together weigh about 270kgs and at 40-50 km/h that is quite a bit of momentum so I stayed on 2 wheels but seriously, trying to knock me off my bike because I wouldn't endanger my life to stop at the last minute? Another time I DID stop and the cop nearly made me crash by grabbing my arm at low speed when I was coming to the end of my emergency stop (to pay his bribe), again after he jumped out at me last minute.

Hopefully other cops see this and think twice next time. To$$ers!

I've been looking at S/H air cooled Monsters myself, from old S2r 1000's (my fave) to the modern EVO 796 (single side s/arm not the cheapo 795) to the EVO 1000-1100's. Pick up a mint 3 y/o 796 with all the farkles for 230k. Prices are very competitive these days for a lot of S/H m/cycles, not just Ducati. About the only silly prices I see are with newish HD's. Even some bargain Speed Triples out there.

Me too. Those 795/6 are excellent value now, I've seen low mileage ones in the low 200k bracket. As far as I know they are pretty reliable bikes and look/sound fantastic with a few simple tasteful mods (tail tidy/indicators/seat cowl).

I joined a group of about 10 Thais riding in Rayong for a few kms a few weeks back. A couple of Z1000's, CBR650's , MT07 etc. and it was the Monster 796 in the group that really stood out. Really lovely looking bikes.

There are loads of bargains out there now, saw a Z1000 for 250k the other day. An almost new MT07 for 200k etc. I guess that's what happens when the Z900 and MT09 are available at under 400k brand new. The market has totally transformed in the last 6-7 years.
