What do you expect when the Covid Czar himself backs out of taking it at the last minute?

From a societal POV it's very desirable for as many people in Thailand to be vaccinated with any Covid-19 vaccine that is available ASAP, but from an individual POV it's also normal for people to decide that they have a brand preference (for good reasons or not).
It's arguably too much of an ask given global supply and demand to expect Thailand or really any government to necessarily be offering brand choices. Something for people to hope for but not very reasonable to always expect.
Thailand should have ordered a whole host of brands months ago, like the UK did. But no, they wanted to feign support for their Sino masters and line pockets in the process.
It's bad enough having to take a rushed through vaccine at all, but being coerced to take the least effective one from the country that created this whole mess is a little rich.
The government is starting to panic that the serfs won't roll over and take whatever they are told to take. Because if they don't, things could unravel quite quickly. Millions of doses of Sinovac on the shelf and Thailand left behind as the world recovers. Not a good look. Hence rolling out the cute girl with the needle in her arm. I'm surprised they didnt have a row of suits pointing at her in the background.

Truth is the Baht is falling. Its not a case of the pound taking off.
Cant believe you are still spouting this nonsense after all the damage that Brexit is inflicting on the UK.
Keep your head in the sand.
Climbing steadily against the Euro as well.
1.09 in December. 1.16 today so almost 7%. Not too shabby in 5 months. Similar story against the Dollar. Not exactly falling off a cliff is it?
Commiserations on failing to get an SNP majority by the way. Fortunately for you the UK is doing great.

Yeah over 10% up in the last 5 months. That's some cliff edge we fell over. ????
If that trend continues we'll be around 50 by Christmas. Which doesn't suit me actually as I earn in Baht, but it does prove me absolutely correct about all that Project Fear rubbish.
Leaving the EU vaccine program was even a bigger gain, both in terms of lives saved and economic recovery. Not to mention avoiding the embarrassment of being associated with such a shower of sh..

The UK's fantastic vaccination scheme has a lot to do with the pound recovering so much this year. As does the gradual debunking of the Project Fear nonsense that is slowly but surely being proved to have been hyperbole from the Pro EU factions that couldn't accept the Democratic mandate provided by the Brexit vote.
Onwards and upwards. ✌️

Apology accepted.
PS it's never too late to learn how to think critically, or how to have an intelligent debate.????

Really? ????
Personally I think it's normal (in a mature society) to question the wisdom of such decisions and have an intelligent debate about the logic and impact of such decisions.
Blindly accepting every single decision about what we are 'permitted' and 'not permitted' to do seems a very dangerous route to go down, especially when delivered in the form of diktats from a government that came to power in the way that this government did in 2014.

No surprise.
More imported vaccines means less people taking Sinovac. Which means less swill in the trough.
Taxing the imports twice fills that gap. Simple as...

This is great news. They should all go out for a well deserved lunch to pat themselves on the back.
I wonder if these geniuses will get round to placing order before the end of the year? Probably not.

I wonder if overstocked foreign countries will look at this when they decide which countries to send their excess vaccines to?
"Let's send a load of free vaccines to Thailand, so the Junta can profit by taxing their citizens on them".

Thailand aren't the only ones using that word. In Oz the NSW govt say they are establishing vaccination hubs throughout the state.
But the chances are that the NSW govt will actually do it. There's a big difference between actions and words.

A lot of Thais I speak to say their friends and family are all VERY nervous about side effects from the vaccine. Many don't want it.
Getting this into arms might not be as easy as anticipated, hence the advice from the Thai Neurological Society to try and reassure people.

Amazing how consistent the numbers are.
It's almost as if they are being managed to ensure they are high enough to scare people into taking the required precautions, but not so high as to lose face in the international community and jeopardize a quick return of tourism.
I wonder what the real numbers are.

Normal Thai business practice.
Less customers? Increase the price of the product to make up the shortfall.
I have a feeling this might not work though. It's a bit different to 20 Baht being added to the price of a beer at "Friends" bar.

There's no way they will let it die.
It's the perfect vehicle for transferring funds from taxpayers into the trough. It's an absolute goldmine for those involved.
Expect various convoluted schemes to bail it out with public money while appearing not to bail it out with public money.
Personally I will never use them again, even in the extremely unlikely event that they start to offer competitively priced flights like they did a couple of decades ago.

Me too. I'm fine paying.
Unfortunately the unbridled, limitless greed of this government is preventing that option as well.

So having paid significant amounts of income tax every year for the last 15 years, I go to the back of the queue for the vaccine.
I can't even pay for it at a private hospital because the government wants to make money from shady deals on domestic vaccine production.
Great job Thailand. A new low.

No doubt there will an option to pay the fine "on the spot", directly to the officer with no receipt - in exchange for a large discount on the 6000 Baht penalty.????
I'd imagine they're hanging around Asoke and lower Sukhumvit looking for such opportunities as we speak.

How many years have they been trying to get this working? Any decent programmer could write and test this simple form in a couple of days. It's absolutely pathetic.
It's possible they made it so bad and unreliable just to inconvenience us and make us jump through hoops but having worked with many IT "professionals" here I suspect they just cant figure it out.
Or maybe the budget ended up at the local Benz dealership?

Done 200km on my KLX since I bought from a buddy a year ago. Transported by truck to the off road places I ride so does little to no road mileage. 2009, 250s only has 16k on it.
Yep, I don't know why people would do huge miles on these types of bikes, that's not what they're built for. If you want to tour with a bit of light off road then a CB500X, Tenere, Versys type of bike would be far better.
These bikes would generally get ridden to the trails and all the other stuff would be off road, which is generally low mileage as it's tough to rack up hundreds of kms on dirt tracks. 1000 kms for an oil change doesn't sound too bad at all, I change it every 5-6 hours on my KX250F and that doesn't really bother me, it's a 5 minute job. It takes me longer to jetwash the bike after riding it than it does to change the oil. The oil filter is even easier, 2 bolts on the side of the engine - a 2 minute job.
As for 32,000 kms, it would take most people many many years to rack of those type of kms on what is essentially a street legal dirtbike. I guess they could if this was their only bike/daily rider but again I doubt people would buy this as their main form of transport.
The only downside is the restriction to 24hp. I know it's only an exhaust and ECU mod but I just hate the principle of Honda Thailand always selling their poorly spec'd/restricted/lowered bikes in the Thai market.

My gf got her first jab yesterday with the Sinovac vaccine. I told her to walk away if she gets offered AZ.
Today in Australia it was announced that Pfizer is the "preferred" vaccine for people under 50. Guess what, nobody is going to touch the AZ vaccine with a 10 foot pole now, no matter if the age is below or above 50. People don't like being forced to use "inferior" vaccine, whether that perception is true or not. However our moron PM has put all our eggs in one basket with AZ, so this wrecks all vaccination plans and schedules. Bye bye international travel in 2021, mid 2022 looks optimistic now.
Total over-reaction. Given the efficacy of Sinovac she'd have been much better off with AZ. Unfortunately this type of reaction will only lead to delays vaccinating people and prolong the damage that Covid is doing to the world.
To put it in perspective, she'd be 50 times more likely to get a blood clot from contraceptive drugs.

The EU doesn't think any such thing as it's regulatory bodies have made clear.
Independent sovereign nations have made their own decisions on such issues.
Yes, and many suspended it's use before there was any proven link. Macron didn't help with his stupid quasi-ineffective jibes.

Now they have the most tenuous of links to a minimal risk I'd imagine they'll do the same again. If they do, I hope they'll do the right thing this time and give it to countries who can use it.

As most of my family are in the uk, I'm puzzled why you would think that. And to be honest I would feel the same about the uk making progress on it's vaccine programme even if they didn't.
Why you would think I would be sick enough to gloat over another country having high death and infection rates is beyond me.
I guess the anti UK rhetoric for months on end might have led me to such a conclusion. You seem delighted that after many false alarms, they might have finally found a miniscule issue with the AZ vaccine. Can't stop posting about it. Spreading the type of fear that leads people to choose to not get vaccinated. Each to their own I guess. Fortunately the UK has already vaccinated vast swathes of it's population with it, hence the plummeting death toll and a distinct lack of bodies piling up with blood clots.
Now that the EU thinks AZ is so dangerous, hopefully it will drop the export ban so that other countries like Australia can share the UK's massive success story. That would be better than hording it while simultaneously being too afraid to use it. If they don't want it, give it to someone who does.
The EU's policy of constantly sniping at the AZ vaccine is only leading to more deaths in it's member states. I have nothing but sympathy for the EU member states and their citizens. The UK suffered membership long enough so I fully understand their pain. I never thought the benefits of leaving would be so stark, so soon.
