  1. Read it quick but did not see any mention of the On Nut extension not opened because they did not order the signals, might be nice to see that open before they start something else

The two extensions of the BTS (Bangkok Mass Transit System), which are Onnuj-Bearing and Wongwian Yai-Bangwa will be available early this year while BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) will be available from May 15," the governor said

Anyways, what about the extra rolling stock to accom the extra passengers?

    Good point.

But I am sure they will squeeze the passengers in the old trains before introducing the the 4 coaches trains.

I also wonder how stations like Siam, Asoke and Vic. Monument can accommodate additional passengers.

During rush hour it's already overcrowded and it's getting really scary on the platforms.

Can't see anymore people fitting in.

  2. I have just been to a well known supermarket opposite Thong lor police station and there must have been about 200 baskets scattered around the floor of the shop. Everyone of them contained a bottle of Chivas.

Like most other laws, this one will never be enforced.

Same at CentralWorld's 7th floor supermarket yesterday. (Top's)

At least 100 hampers scattered on the floor loaded with JW Black Label.

  3. 300.000 people have to pass security detectors??

How in god's name do they want to do this??

As usually most people gather 2 hours before midnight.

How they want to guarantee their safety?

The New Year bombings 3 years ago come to my mind. 3 months after Mr. T was relieved of his duties.

IMO better call mass gatherings off during this period of instability.

  4. I saw something being erected (said the nurse to the bishop) outside Central world yesterday, I think it was a stage?... so yes, I reckon the beer garded will be back again this year...

Erected....hmmmm, guess what you saw was the foundation for the CentralWorld Xmas tree.

Besides, I am certain that the beer garden in front of CW will open soon.

As always during the "winter" season.

  5. Where in bangkok is a good place to shop for a 18 carat gold wedding ring.

I am getting tired with these gold shops everywhere that sell 23 carat gold rings who just don't look right (to yellow) and are way to soft so they scratch easily.

    Go to CentralWorld.

Name of the store: Petch Anyarat, Dazzle Zone, 1st Floor

Good selection, very competitive prices and absolutely trustworthy.

    They speak excellent English.

Like most jewelery stores the might be closed on Mondays.

  6. Could any of you kind folk recommend a reliable car & driver service to pick us up at the airport and take us to Hua Hin? I want to spend around 2,000 Baht. I want to arrange ahead of time to avoid the touts.

    Cheers and thanks.

I am using Mr. Nick's services since a couple of years on numerous occasions.

He speaks fluent English, and is very a friendly, honest and extremely reliable guy.

Mostly he picks you up with a Volvo, but he can provide other rides too.

    I can highly recommend him.

However, 2000 Baht might be a little low for the airport-HH trip and empty return

    Contact Mr. Nick

    Cell: 0850613765

    Cheers

  7. For us geographically challenged people what is the nearest Sky Train or Subway Station to City Air Terminal in Bangkok's Makkasan. And is it a taxi ride away or a 2/3 minute walk.

    Thank you,

    TheWalkingMan

Make that at least 15 Minutes.

Nearest subway stations are either Rama 9 or Petchaburi.

40 Degrees heat, heavy luggage, perhaps crossing an overpass..........well, I would opt for a cab. From the airport. :)

Another point which haven't been discussed:

Suppose you arrive during morning and evening rush hours.

    The BTS is already overcroweded.

Squeezing in with bags and suitcases might be quite a challenge.

    But, let's see.

  8. Bicycles are not toys. Why are you even thinking about buying one from a supermarket toy department? Do supermarkets employ bicycle mechanics? How competent are the supermarket bicycle assemblers? The chap who assembled bicycles today was possibly sweeping the car park yesterday and may be slicing meat tomorrow! Do you really want to put your safety in his hands?

"thanyaburimac" says that you can buy 23" size bikes for 1500 Baht. That 24" is wheel size and not frame size and a whole bike for 1500 Baht – let's put that into perspective, I'd find it difficult to find a pair of tyres for 1500Baht.

So, armed with your 1500 Baht, you decide to get one from a supermarket – is it the right size for you, are the front forks on the proper way round (You'll be surprised of the number of bikes with backward forks there are!), gears and brakes properly adjusted, spokes properly tensioned and wheels running true?

So why are supermarket bikes so cheap? Bulk buying does pay a small part in the price but the main saving is in cheap materials & poorly made and copy parts. I have seen supermarket bikes fitted with Shinamo and other variants of Shimano!

Go to a local bike shop, makes friends with the owner and the mechanics and they will give you good advice. It will cost you more than 1500 Baht but will be money well spent. Have you seen the price of used cars here in Thailand? Compared to comparative models in the UK, they are sky high – the same applies to used bikes. I reluctantly sold one of my Treks a few months ago, three years old, over 3000 enjoyable kilometres on the clock and sold for 80% of what I bought it for.

    dam_n right! Safety 1st.

Those pieces of junk from the supermarket will not last longer than a few month at best.

I can recommend the bike department at Super Sports in Seri Center.

Vast selection of bikes and mechanics who really know what they are doing.

    And ......lots of promotions.

Bought my Giant bike there with a nice discount.

They will do the maintenance as well.

    Check it out.

  9. Court jails son of Miss Thailand for ten years

BANGKOK: -- Phrakanong Court on Friday sentenced Kanpitak Pachimsawas, 21, son of former Miss Thailand, to 15 years and two months in jail on charges of premeditated-murder due to his aggressive driving which killed one and injured three others.

The penalty was reduced to 10 years and one month as the defendant had already paid some compensation to the injured.

On July 4, 2007, Kanpitak swerved his car into the footpath near a bus-stop where many people were waiting for buses after he got into an argument with the driver of bus number 513, claiming that the bus hit him and fled. One died and three others were injured.

Court ordered Kanpitak, son of Kun-anek and Savinee; former Miss Thailand, to pay compensation to Sangwan Srihawong, for Bt800,000.

Kanpitak's parents indicated he has a mental condition and he cannot control himself when he is under a lot of stress.

    -- The Nation 2009-01-30

It's now been 6 months since he got a 10 year sentence.

Anybody know the status of this case?

Is he actually serving time or free on bail until.........................???
