Chalerm : Thailand is not terrorism land

Deputy Prime Minister Police Captain Chalerm Yubamrung has affirmed yesterday that Thailand is not a country of terrorism after it was ranked eighth in the global terrorism index by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

Police Captain Chalerm downplayed the ranking by the US agency and attributed the misunderstanding to recent political protests in the country. He expressed confidence towards the operation of immigration police, the special branch police and other security units.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that the US has once believed that the terrorist group Hezbollah came to Thailand, but the issue was later proven false.

Police Captain Chalerm also expressed confidence that Thailand is not terrorism-prone as it is a Buddhist country and is not aligned with any major power bloc. He said the unrest in the south is deemed as being instigated by insurgents and separatists, not an act of terrorism.

The Deputy Prime Minister then pointed out that media reports which cover the incidents in the Deep South has been causing fears among the public while the local people do not share the same level of panic.

He however noted that he has been working closely with the authorities and is aware of the situation in the region. By RADIO THAILAND & INSIGHT INFO

  3. Thai Airlines is the most expensive airlines in the asia would. The Thai's in other countries that visit their families use this airline. They will pass this employee increase to the customers...The salaries for flight attendents are not cloose to the flight attendents in the airline industry!!! Maybe $300.00 per month...

The salary of a Thai Airways senior FA is about 100k Bt (3.300 USD) per month plus allowances. New recruits earn about 30k Bt (1.000 USD) plus allowances.

Family/business connections, and/or cash payments help to land a job. Many 'Hi-So' families’ girls/sons in this club.

  4. There is no genuine political will in Thailand to change the status quo and political will is paramount in any fight against corruption.

If political will implies, the zeal, the desire, the commitment to fight corruption, then it must start with genuine democratic reform, then, governments that rig elections all the time cannot fight corruption, because; electoral corruption is the root of all forms of corruption.

Ratifying international anticorruption treaties, creating national anticorruption commissions and national anticorruption strategies in themselves will not lead to any results, if much energy and resources are not invested in building genuine democratic institutions and a rule of law through which citizens can hold those in power accountable.

According to de Speville, there are seven essentials to fighting corruption:

    1. Political will

    2. Values clearly stated in law

    3. A national anticorruption strategy - clear, concise and comprehensive

    4. An effective mechanism for implementing it

    5. Community support

    6. Resources

    7. Endurance

But we all know this will never happen as long as money politics and a feudal culture dominate this country.

  5. Ikea is not getting it right in many ways here !

    Warning !!

Ikea home delivery is overcharging big times !

Compared with their advertised rates on ikea.co.th di they want 8 times the price when i asked.

I was lucky that a good man in Ikea told me to check their delivery rates before i paied (a man employed by Ikea) and he was right !

So i kicked the wagon with goods for 35.000 back in the shop !!

They wanted to charge 7500 Baht for less then one M/3 to Khon Kaen, advertised rate is 900 Baht.

    So take care !!!

Although Thailand is very cheap in terms of transportation, you cannot be serious about transportation cost of 900 Baht for a 700km delivery round trip to Khon Kaen.

Before making overcharging accusations check their website properly.

    The costs are clearly stated.

  6. When traveling by BTS these days,... has anybody noticed, how bad the breaks were for a couple of weeks now. I mean, when it stops at a station, the train is shaking 2-3 times...

That makes me think something is wrong with the maintenance of the train engines... anyone experiencing the same????

You are absolutely right. The ride is not smooth.

It's not the maintenance, it's the new Chinese made 4-carriage trains.

The old Siemens 3-carriage trains are just fine.
