  1. I don't know about all of the studies, but my Dad had 1 shot of Jack Daniels everyday as far back as I can remember.

He never went to bars and I saw never saw him inebriated.

He passed away 8 months short of his 100th birthday.

Did he have it neat or with water ?

  2. [My subsequent decision to marry my Thai wife was made in the full knowledge of what can go wrong and what it can cost.

If you are not sure marriage is the right thing for you don't do it.

    I agree with buffcoat.

I understand your concerns, however wouldn't it be best to discuss your doubts/fears with your partner.

After all,she may have to evaluate her job,way of life, friends, family, location and she needs reassurance as well.

I would re-read this topic and think about the advice and then start discussions with your partner

    Good Luck

  3. I'm certainly not an expert and only repeated what my doctor told me. I asked him specifically if I could catch it again and he told me that you develop no immunity to Dengue. He said nothing about different strains and nothing about it being worse the next time.

What are the best ways of preventing Dengue ?

  4. if she a bargirl he should worry bout the negatives. there are no positives!

    You must know the person,background,lifestyle

and most importantly ask yourself, what do you want from this relationship ?

If you can answer these questions ,then ask your partner the same questions?

Compare the answers and then decide if you have enough love to stay together for a very long time.

  5. .

Working my way through Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus series - excellent crime fiction set in Edinburgh, Rebus is your usual dysfunctional detective; drink problems, loner, bit of a maverick, all the usual cliches, but Rankin's writing makes Rebus come alive.

If you crime fiction based on cities ,I would recommed Jason Goodwin's "The Janissary Tree" & "The Snake Stone" both are set in 19th Century Istanbul. The Ottoman Empire is crumbling.corruption is rife ,it is difficult for an honest man to find a way.Yashim the Eunuch is an investigator, excellent cook and book lover. His milieu contains Poles,French,Greeks,Arabs and Armenians ,but the city of Istanbul is full of mystery. These are well written by a historian who weaves intrigue, but all the charachers are memorable and it makes a cracking read.

Also look out for 3 contemporary crime fiction novels by Stuart Macbride based on Aberdeen.

  6. I'm happy to pick up my own luggage rather than having it sent to me...if they deliver it, on most airlines that just means yet more time spent waiting for those extra pairs of socks. quote

I agree,KLM once lost my wife's luggage for 2 days......it cost me a fortune ..and no compensation.

  7. Well i must defend what is right so let me add my 2 baht worth. I fly long haul 10 or more times a year and in my humble, but quite experienced opinion, i would say that Thai airways inflight meals absoulutley win hands down if you compare with BA, KLM, or Airfrance etc. :o

    Dear Ping,

    I hope you are right.

I am already in danger of being beaten up by my daughters aged 11 & 8 as TG doesn't have an individual TV's

    Thanks for a Happy Thought

  8. Most cheese rinds are edible. The plastic covering around some cheeses is akin to packaging - discard it!

Also very important with most cheeses is to remove them from the fridge 20+ mins before eating, improves the taste no end.

    I agree .

I believe it is more hygenic to keep the rind on until ,just before eating.

Suegha's tip is not only worthwhile in taste, but also maintains the ratio of warm/cold bacteria .

    Enjoy !

  9. Hi all

There has been a lot of discussion about how to bring dogs from overseas to Thailand. I was just wondering if there are any precautions we should take to ensure that newly arrived dogs (and other pets) are healthy and happy? The heat is an obvious issue that I have read about in another thread, as are ticks. Are there any other issues of concern & how to deal with them or prevent them from happening?

    Thanks!

1.I would post your area & request Thai Forum colleagues to recommend a good vet in your area.

2.I would try and "quarantine" your pet from local dogs/animals ,until checked by the vet.

3.Also try to keep the diet as similar to that previously experienced.

4.If your dog is a pedigree ,I would request advice from that Pedigree forum on the web.

    Hope this helps

  10. A friend flew here with THAI from Heathrow about two weeks ago. He knew they didn't have the inflight entertainment system, but a movie (only one on a 12-hour flight!) was scheduled. However, they didn't even manage that and gave no reason to the passengers. A minor point admittedly, but maybe symptomatic of the malaise that has infected THAI. Personally I tried them once about 12 years ago and wasn't impressed enough to use them again.

Oh Dear, pity I am booked on them to travel next Friday !

Hope you are all right about the liberal beverages.

    Might get a sleep !
