  1. www.9apartment.com has loads of cheap places.

I stay in a room in OnNut 4 nights a week before traveling home to my house on the beach everyweekend.

Room is basic, unfurnished with hot water and aircon it is 3300 pm with fan and hot water it is only 2900.

both rooms include Cable and Wireless internet (good speeds).

    Safe owners.

    CCTV

There are just far too many apartments to choose from in BKK.

You will save yourself a lot in rent if you buy a small motorbike/bicycle that you can ride to a Tesco or mall with security car park near any station where you can then lock it up and get a train securely going about your business.

  2. Yes there is a TB Vaccine. It is effectivly given to infants. As was stated earlier many others come into contact with the Virus and develop positive anti bodies. A simple blood test will show if you have been imunized or have antibodys present and are therefore immune (due to imunization or prior contact with the virus) to TB.

Infection with TB and the fact that you may be a dormant carrier will stop or at least hinder entry to many countrys (in particular Australia). In such cases you may need to provide a lung xray or such thing.

But hey why do people believe what others type on here?

Please wiki TB. or read up on it on an endorsed Medical website.

  3. The good thing about this is of course that this 'Test' is the first of its kind and despite it's worrying result is a great first for Thailand and its education system. To those who implemented such proactive and prgressive a study.... Hats off! and keep up the good work.

edit- I will certainly advertise this article as much as possible in order to raise awareness. Bab y steps.. baby steps.

  4. I have always wondered why Mr T (and no that is not BA Barakas from the A Team) doesnt come back and do his time.

As stated earlier he would probably get out quick smart or have sentences reduced or overturned on an appeal anyhow.

He would only serve maybe 2 years (prior to the new talk of terrorism wich extends this somewhat,

He can pay for extra privelidges in prison... he could probably have his own privatised prison built is he wanted to.

While in prison he could recruit more heavily launch press/media propagaganda etc

    He would become a martyr.

History shows us wether they be good or bad, righteous or despicable, it works that way. Mandella, Ruben Carter, The Bali Bombers, Socrates, St Stephen the list goes on.

    So why doesnt he?

These are the only likely reasons he doesnt that I can think of:

1- He is a coward and cannot bear to face up to the realitys that he may in fact be guilty of such crimes. (as he perhaps is delusional and so is fully convinced that he himself is righteous.)

2- He is a coward and knows he is down right guilty and enjoys the idea and popularity of his infamy.

3- He is a coward and feels that he will be dead rburried and forgotten if he goes to jail and no longer thetopic of the media.

4- He has a lot of other matters that may be 'uncovered' once he is in the monkey house.

5- He believes he will be assasinated.

6- He thinks his life would be better in some Montenegro castle. Never being able to leave. (much simmilar to the prison he would be in.) hi

7- He doesnt think he can manage his political agenda from behind bars.

He wouldnt do more than 2 years if he came back and he would come out stronger and bigger than ever.

Can you imagine the ferocity and size of the protests outside his courtroom?

I am kind of a fence sitter on this subject and its ideals. However can others elaborate as to why he doesnt come back?

(edit) as it is so obviously in his interests.

  5. Whatever peoples opinions of this guy it's another loss of a human being which I fear will be the catalyst for further loss of life.

My personal opinion is that he was taken out in revenge for the deaths of other soldiers and whilst I clearly have no proof, it remains my opinion.

There is no place for "summary justice" in a civilised society.

With the exception of the motive behind his ruthless assassination, I totally agree with you.

  6. <deleted> is Chikungunya? (thanks to google I already know now, however thank you for raising my awareness to this disease, that is very simmilar to Dengue.)

The following are the only mosquito borne virus/diseases I know of in Thailand:

Dengue -the guy who caught it twice already- your lucky the virus has only 4 strains and you can only ever catch 1 strain once.... Only 2 more to go!

Malaria. lTreatable however new strains in Cambodia would seem to show resistance to current treatments.

    Japanese Encephalitis (vaccine available).

Very busy reading about Chikungunya now. Very interesting, thanks a lot.

  7. I dont know where you guys are eating... but i must be eating at all the wrong places.

I have never seen a service charge on any bill here in Thailand ever. If I did I would refuse to pay it. (There would be an argument...I would possibly cave in after a FN HUGE scene and pay if it was displayed to me in writting on a menu).

I am Aussie and we don't tip either.

(I will tip however... with EXTREME excelence in service....10-20thb.. on very, very rare occasions.)

in 99% of cases any tip you give goes to the floor manager/owner/supervisor anyhow. If your waitress/waiter is caught pocketing it he/she may/maynot have that ammount deducted ontop of the tip removal from their wages.

    Why tip?

    Why give 10%?

    What restaurants do this?

Can we start a boycot? :)

    (edit: Farang ki niow!!)

  8. Everything you want to know is readily available info and you can easy work out teh exact cost.

Recently I was toying with the idea of importing. Here are some links.

The costs/maymay not be as bad as all that (probably are though.) I may well be wrong but I think it depends on the age of the car/kms (older being better.) the engine capacity and the weight. Despite it being a lovely car ... it is still old and second hand (no offence intended as I am drooling).

I would assume anything you could do to dress it down on its way in would be in youtr favour. ie: change the wheels and have the nice ones mailed in as parts.

I think (as many have said) that it is to low for some of teh crap roads here.

Perhaps just bring it in as a temporary vehicle instead: http://www.motorcycle.in.th/staticpages/in...cycle_into_Thai

and then apply to keep it here whatever is cheaper.

    "Used / Secondhand Vehicles

Used/secondhand vehicles need to obtain an import permit from the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce, telephone 02-5474804. For the vehicles with the weight less than 3500 Kgs., an importer needs to obtain an import permit from the Industrial Standard Institute as well.

    some starting links are here:

    # In case where the transport costs in 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 are not available, the transport cost is calculated at 10% of FOB value.

Here is an example costing of your import from the links provided:

Table of Tax and Duty Rates

Table of Tax and Duty Rates

Type of Vehicles Cylinder Capacity Duty (%) Excise Tax (%) (Multiplier) Interior Tax (%)* VAT (%) Total (%)

Personal Vehicle including passenger vehicle with not more than 10 seats - Not exceeding 2000cc. and not more than 220 horse power 80 30 (0.4477612) 10 7 187.47

    - 2001 cc. but not exceeding 2500 cc. with not more than 220 horse power 80 35 (0.5691057) 10 7 213.171

    - 2501 cc. or but not exceeding 3000 cc. with not more than 220 horse power 80 40 (0.7142857) 10 7 243.94

    - Exceeding 3000cc. or more than 220 horse power 80 50 (1.1111111) 10 7 328

    * Interior tax is calculated at 10% of excise tax.

Example Calculation of Taxes and Duties

CIF value of the imported vehicle and applicable taxes and duties are as follows:

    * CIF value of the import

    = 100 Thai Baht

    * Import duty

    = 80 %

    * Excise tax

    = 35 %

    * Interior tax

    = 10 % of excise tax

    * VAT

    = 7 %

The total import duties and taxes imposed on this import are calculated as follows:

    1. Import duty

= (CIF value * Rate of import duty)

    = (100 * 0.8)

    = 80 Thai Baht

    2. Excise tax = (CIF value + import duty) * {Rate of excise tax/1-(1.1 * Rate of excise tax)}

    = (100+80) * {0.35/1-(1.1*0.35)}

    = 180 * 0.5691057

    = 102.439 Thai Baht

    3. Interior tax = Excise tax * Rate of interior tax

    = 102.439 * 0.1

    = 102.439 Thai Baht

    4. Base VAT = (CIF value+ Import duty+ Excise tax + Interior tax)

    = (100 + 80 + 102.439 + 10.2439)

    = 292.6829 Thai Baht

    5. VAT = Base VAT * VAT Rate

    = 292.6829 *0.07

    = 20.4878 Thai Baht

    Total taxes and duties = 1 + 2 + 3 + 5 = 213.171 Thai Baht

Type of Vehicles Cylinder Capacity Duty (%) Total (%)

    Motor Vehicle (Tariff Heading 87.03) - Not exceeding 2000cc. 80 188

    - 2001 cc. but not exceeding 2500cc. 80 213

    - 2501 cc. or but not exceeding 3000cc. 80 244

    - More than 3001cc. 80 328

    Motorcycle (Tariff Heading 87.11) 60 77.04

    Electric Motorcycle 60 72

    Electric Bicycle 60 72

  9. TAN_Network: INN reporting that DAAD radio stations in Chiang Mai are inciting followers to arm themselves.

Now if anyone have doubts if these thugs are peaceful or not...

    Good point...

I'm in CM. Nothing happening here. Maybe scare mongering will work someplace else.

I have examined the Tan network site but was unable to find anything that alledged red supporters to "arm themselves" could you please post a link to support your quote. I would be very interested to read about it.

  10. The Baht is moving right now, that's for sure. Every time I refresh the page on xe.com I get a new price. Currently trending stronger went from 33.11 per USD to 33.0846 in the last fifteen or so minutes.

It never moves this fast. Gonna be a wild ride today, I don't know where it is headed but I'd love to see us at 34:1 by tomorrow morning, entirely possible I think.

Yes, it seems to be doing similar things with other currencys inc AUD.

  11. Am I the only one waiting for the baht to take a whacking great hit against the pound so I can transfer some money at more than 50 bhat to the pound.

Pound and Euro have been tanking since late last year. Lets hope a little "hiccup" is in the wind!

    :):D:D

    Yes, What do people think?

This is a massive increase to the Thai economy (given a verdict that takes the whole pie) Do punters think this will make the Baht suddenly rise or drop?

  12. Dear Europe,

    I do appologise,

I will be unable to attend your final countdown 2010 remix release.

As I will be flying home to Australia for my 2 months school holidays & Songkhran.

I do thank you however for the invitation and hope it all goes of with a bang.

To avoid personal embaressment for my non attendance I would apreciate it if you could keep roads clear to the airport up until the 2nd of March so as no one realises my rude abscence. I do appologise and thank you for the door list as last time when returning to Thailand I was unaware of the party and was denied entry to my flight as the celebrations at the airport were so exuberant.

All the best and I hope everyone has a blast.

  13. Just to support what was mentioned by some others here. The MOE has nothing to do with it.

I work for an agency. ( i have a BA) I have received work permits in all schools the agency has placed me (3 in 3 different provinces). Without any mention of my qualifications to teach AT ALL. This has been done by correspondence from the school only (nothing from my agent) The school has never ever asked about any evidence or to sight or copy any paperwork regarding my qualifications. (TEFL/BA)

I have taken the letters from my school of to immigration and recieved a lovely blue work permit.

Not only that; I know of several people who do not have ANY qualifications at all (however to their credit are great teachers.) They have work permits and teaching licences. They (and this may be a big part of it with their teaching licences) are thought of very highly at their schools.

  14. Yeah but wearing a vest, having long hair and tatts does make you look like one of Village People and you deserve to go down just for that.

Oh come on that village people jibe is the funniest post on the thread~!

  15. Peopel really should refrain from such easy judgements... even the original post only mentions 'charged with" it makes no reference to guilt.

The second 'update' does make this reference however but states he is 'not on teh run'.

Unbelievable what did he do wrong? Overstay?

Does this mean we can no longer get our 500thb a day or 20,000 overstay?

The poor sod obviously upset someone either here or backhome.

    I wish him well.
