  1. I got AIS 3G usb modem at home in Maehia. Its been pretty good so far this last test result from today

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/71610/3gspeed.jpg

    3697 / 695 kbps

My TOT (3BB) 4mb line here is useless.

I just paid 600 baht for 3 gb and noticed that when I share the 3G line for several computers... it just ate 1GB in less than hr!! So that does not work right.

Now the 1 million baht question is can I use AIS 3G Wireless Router as another part of Multi-WAN ??

    like this: http://www.sys2u.com/images/kb004-02.gif

so 3BB adsl + AIS 3G goes to Multi-Wan router and then to wireless router... has anyone tried ?

  2. Im leaving from Chiang Mai to Khong Kaen via Uttaradit, Phitsanulok and Petchabun.

Im driving my Nissan Sunny alone so I got plenty of empty seats if anyone needs a ride.

Ride is free, if someone wants to give some cash for gas I dont say no.

    Contact asap if interested 081.304.8038

  3. Well there were some whining that Jingthing's reference to a POLL was wrong and biased.

Here's their chance to VOTE ONCE, and we can see what TVF people think of the situation.

So far lets just say, it appears 'Statistically significant'.

Vote once? That's no fun. Well I for one am voting early and frequently as they say in the Democratic stronghold of Chicago, Obama's hometown.

So far it does appear that most of the Farangs on this board are liberal European socialist CS's. Pity that.

    no politics :)

  4. break-in news!

Another burglary last night... this time only front yard and I lost my mountain bike. Cant even remember the brand but its red-black color, with shimano gears and front suspension, extremely uncomfortable seat.

What really pisses me off I had this bike for about 1.5 years and almost never used it, but started to run with it to work couple weeks back and now its gone.

Im so furious now that please avoid my house during the night-time and tress-passer will find himself in pain.

  5. Hey guys please help me out here!

See here is the simple problem I have. Im from Finland and in my country pretty much every house got its private sauna (I dont think I ever seen one without). We use it around 2-3 times a week. So average 40 year old Finn has been in sauna around 5000 times. Now I would say that I have pretty good idea how sauna should be used. Now while so far all the saunas I have been in Chiang Mai has Finland made heaters and they look like properly build then <deleted> IS THIS - NO WATER ON THE ROCKS THING?!!!

So every time I find new place, I find bucket for water, perhaps a glass to pour it and start enjoying the sauna. 2 minutes goes past and staff walks in and confiscates my bucket with "danger do not throw water on rocks" comments... seriously <deleted>??

Many of these places has "sauna instructions" lol ... in those instructions you see them slamming water like we should. So what is this all about?? And the last time in the sauna there where only me and my friend (also Finn) so it can't be any other customer complaining.

Please anyone - last time I tried to explain the guys that being Finn and having used sauna thousands of times makes me kind of expert on this at least in CM and they should not be telling me how to use sauna properly.

please... Im going again tomorrow trying to sneak the buckets in and enjoy the 2 minutes I can =(

  6. in high school, my GF family used to raise Basenjis (sp?).... they don't bark and are very protective animals.... great guard dogs...especially given all the noise of typical soi and mooban dogs here in thailand....

a side note: I got robbed twice when i lived in london, while i was in the house sleeping. One time the bloke had the cheek to ring the door clanger as he ran out of the house.... i jumped up and chased him for 3 blocks, in 2 feet of snow, when i heard my wife screaming: You are naked, you crazy arse.... and another one still might be in the house!

kinda funny, kinda painful and VERY cold.

if the OP is same Oz that i gave a cable to, i hope they didn't get that too! those are hard to come by!

They did not get the power adapter for the notebook. As far as I know there is only one place to get those in CM (Dell store in Airpot plaza 3rd floor) will inform them about the stolen notebook tomorrow.

  7. So it is possible that it is NOT a middle class Thai that you are acquainted with?

    MSPain

middle class / high class/ low class thai/farang/asian... we dont know... but if they where the same guys as seen couple blocks away then they would be Thai again dont know about the class but driving old scooter would think they would be rather from lower or middle class... or high class Thais trying to be low class ?? +)

Anyway, not sure now how they got in... they might have actually come in from front door and only go to see back door whether to escape from there... as both doors where open when we come downstairs, but our neighbor was having coffee in his kitchen so he should have noticed if someone would have come/go out from back door... anyway CM CSI keeps on investigating...

  8. ok little more info on this is coming.

The CM CSI have a clue =)

About 15-20 minutes after the burglary to my house another house next soi got hit. This time the victim was young Thai guy who lost his laptop and wallet. He was just getting ready to leave to work and had the front door open notebook and wallet on the table and last minute call to toilet cost him his valuables.

In this case his neighbor saw the whole thing. About 20 year old girl driving motorbike and 40 year old thai man braking into house. The neighbor even got the registration number of the old red yamaha scooter... this registration number have found its way to police now, but surprisingly police was not very interested about it. They would the bike from some computer registration system and color etc matches, but could it be that if its very old bike it has changes owner several times without actually registering the change of the ownership. I know we have one old white Honda Dream that is registered to some guy we dont know (not the one we both it from, but previous previous owner). When we tried to register it for our name (we have the green book) it got too complicated and in the transportation office they recommended us not to do it =)

Anyway small changes that these low-life's will be found.

  9. hmm... interesting.. my wife found out that our backdoor (kitchen) door is forced open... so the guy came through back door and left through front door.

but its still weird... coming from back door you need to climb over wall which is not high but it has sharp glass all over. Then again... i think I could climb over without too much damage to myself so it could be easy for a pro...

but coming in from back door you have absolutely no change to know whether there are people inside or not... so this guy just didnt care... scary... no when he has seen my other (4 computers) he might come back for more... I need to buy some protection to home now... ideas?

  10. This morning around 8 am someone broke into our town-house by forcing the lock open while my wife was in the shower and I where sleeping in my bed.

Our daughter leaves every morning around 7.30 am to school and leaves the gate unlocked as there are people already around on the streets and we always felt it pretty safe neighborhood.

Around 8 am my wife goes to shower and I hear noise from downstairs, but I think its our daughter and I go back to sleep. Around 8.20 am my wife wakes me up and tells that we have been robbed.

I check downstairs gone is: Dell Mini 10 laptop with Apple OS X (hackintosh) in it, my five's pink mobile phone and 2.000 baht cash from our wallets. My Swiss watch was still in the table as was Mac Mini so he/she did not have too much time.

I wish to find my notebook back so if anyone sees one for sale like that (black cover) please inform me, I dont believe there are more than few of those in CM with Apple OS in them (ofcourse it could already be formatted).

My address where the burglary happen is 11 Thanon Thepsathit. (this is soi between Bangkok Bank and Kasikornbank on Suthep Rd). Police is "investigating" and neighbors did not see anything.

Which surprises me is that the guy have taken big risk. 8 am there are usually many people on the street and the shops opposite to us are open. There where 3 motorbikes and 2 bicycles in the front yard so it did not look like empty house either...

Well anyway if anyone sees laptop as described please call 081.304.8038 Ozzi.

    pic of the laptop: http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/me...ell-mini_10.jpg

  11. vagabond48 - hey this sounds interesting... please let me know if you find it... ill try to check out as well... do u remember any place near that could help me to locate it ?

I dropped by yesterday for a peek and it looks about the same and is still 100baht.

You take Suriyawong Road going South from Chiang Mai Gate. At the end of the road, you make a right on Wiang Ping Road. Go about 10 to 20 meters, make a left on a small soi with a number of advertising signs for apartments, at the turn. You'll pass a brown apartment building on the right, with nice rooms btw. Just go down about 60 to 100 meters and on the right side you'll see Thong Pan Chang Sauna and Fitness. There should be a street sign on the sidewalk.

Remember, I haven't used this sauna for well over a year but do mention my name so I can get my 150% commission. :)

Please report back if you go.

hi thanks for the tip!!! I did go there 2 days ago and its the best so far... actually is good enough for me. The sauna was perfect temperature 90 celsius and all Finland made (Harvia). First the lady told me that I cant pour water on the rocks as its not allowed, but when she left back to reception I found bucked and sneaked it in.

None of the customers minded me emptying the bucked to the rocks (only one Thai, most farang or Koreans who actually know how to use sauna).

And the result. Very relaxed mind and dropped weight 2kg. Will go once a week from now on... thanks a lot!!

  12. I changed to Maxnet Premium about 6 months ago and Im very pleased with it. Before I struggled with slow connection with Indy package for couple years now at least its consistent. Uploading is still slow.

My test results sec ago (same as it seems to be all the time). http://speedtest.net/

    2.59 Mb/s 0.43 Mb/s Ping 25 ms

I leave on Suthep road near CMU btw. (which is great as I can also get WE TV cable :)

Just as a comparison I get same upload but faster download on Maxnet Indy (is it still called that??)

    in central CM

yes i did get that speed with indy occasionally. the problem with indy was that it was not consistent. 6-9pm it got very slow. now with premium i cant see any difference what time of the day it is. its not fast but its consistent.

This is my main concern. Upload is more important than download for me which is why i need a good connection. Just about everywhere you go will give you a cheeky thumbs up when you as about internet, but this might be more to do with telling folks what they want to hear rather than what is actually the case.

Of course, one persons perception can be quite different to another depending on how they use the internet and with what frequency.

    Cheers

    Aitch

yes i got pretty much same thing... i need more uploading... with ftp its slow, but i found dropbox www.dropbox.com very helpful when im sharing files with my clients, friends or just sending around Im using dropbox and then just link from there.

I do have the 3G usb modem as well but I havent used it for 6 months now as I do need to work on multiple computers etc...

  15. A well hidden gem is Bakerista on Santisuk. Small coffee shop and bakery; very pleasant with nice garden and sweet staff. Apparently they will start doing Farang food soon too, though the customers are mainly more affluent Thais.

Located roughly behind the Administrative court on the Super Highway, left after Grand View Hotel, first right then follow the road round. It's on the left after the next soi (After the god botherer's place and before the short time hotel :) ) kadlanna.com/bakerista

Totally agree, & another good place is Doi Tung opposite the Amari Rincome on Nimmanhaemin. My European friends love the coffee & the atmosphere & if a Swiss compares it favourably to Movenpick it can't be bad can it!! :D I also buy ground coffe at Doi Tung & use it at home with one of their excellent filter coffee makers.

I agree my votes go for Doi Tung as well.
