  1. “I met Dennis after joining an internet dating service for a laugh. An actress friend had joined the site, but wanted to stop. So I agreed that she could put my photograph up instead.

When you read cr@p like that, you know the whole story is cr@p.

  2. I see lots of response to what makes a man a loser, but I haven't seen ANY response to what makes a man a winner... and WHY he is a winner. I'd like to see a few definitions of the winners and maybe we can discuss that civilly.

Those who are happy with their lives and women are the winners.

Those who make denigrating comments on happy people certainly aren't winners.

  3. I don't know about the economics, but for years I have perused thaikisses and have noticed that all of a sudden the "desired age range" has tightened dramatically.

Four years ago it was often "any age," now it is woman's age +5 - +10 and now I often see woman's age -5-10 years. Perhaps an aftereffect of "Sex in the City?"

Don't take serious what women say, take serious what women do. This is a general rule, as women are highly emotional and their emotions can change in minutes.

When I did internet dating, I was often approached by women 20+ years younger than me. And when I checked their profiles, they would allegedly never go for a man in my age.

Therefore, just don't take it serious.

  4. Goa is very big and the (very annoying) Israeli party scene can easily be avoided as they are limited to certain beaches.

Boracay is small, has crap food, packed everywhere, loads of tourists, noisy Korean tour groups.

There are much better places in both countries. I'd say 2-3 days in Boracay is the maximum I could endure, not much more in Goa either.

  5. I am a firm believer that most people are just not qualified to make prudent decisions as far as investments.  The intricacies in the global economy are just too detailed for anyone to really grasp them all.  So funds are the way to go.  Choose sectors, then let fund managers manage.  you may not hit a home run, but you probably won't lose out as well.

    Bad advice.

Over 90% of all funds can't even beat the corresponding index. But you still pay management fees, issuing fees and other costs.

I don't own Thai stocks and don't invest in any Thai stocks fund. Instead, I invest in the SET50 index, which in the past gave me good returns from the raising Thai stock market AND from the rising Thai Baht.

And no funds manager eats my hard earned cash.

  6.  So the OP has already started threads ordering us to not call ourselves khun, not to wai waitresses, and not to say "same-same."  I am pretty happy that I have someone who can tell me what not to do in order not to look like a plonker or a <deleted> or  whatever.

I am eagerly awaiting his next set of orders, quivering in anticipation on what they might be.  Don't use a fork to shovel food into your spoon while eating?  Don't wear amulets?  Don't check your bill carefully before paying?  I am just so excited and can't wait to find out!

For a non-native English speaker like me, it is always instructive to learn new important words like "<deleted>" or "plonker".

"Same same" is already part of my vocabulary, though.

  7. Thanks for your answers!

I asked around a bit and it came out that some smaller shops give a "discount" of around 200B. Not worth the hassle. I still find it strange, as a while ago I bought a new camera and got a discount of approx. 20%. I'd think that in this mobile-crazy country, competition between shops would be even stronger.

I guess I will just go to the most fancy Nokia shop in Paragon or Central World and buy from there, hoping that service and warranty issues are a bit better there and not of "mai bpen rai" quality....

  8. Why do people think that speaking English is the most necessary thing for Thais to be successful?

It is not. 99% of Thais don't need English at all. And those who need, can usually speak it too.

The knowledge of English in Japan is much more dismal than in Thailand. And Japan cannot be exactly called "unsuccessful".

  9. Classic.

Discussions about decor, etc. Not a word about the food other than bickering about whether hummus is Greek. Oh, Taramosalata is on the menu.

Well, I've eaten there a few times. So have quite a few people I know. Take-out from people who live in the area is common. The food is popular. The lamb chops are the best I've ever had.

The food is good. Given the lack of Greek food in the Sukhumvit area, decor and "atmosphere" seem overrated. As is obvious from the success of the gyro stand on Nana Soi 4 and even the success of Souvlaki on Patpong Soi 4 despite having to walk the "gauntlet" to get there. No, it's not a full-blown Greek restaurant. If I remember correctly, the last one of those attempted here failed. Ekamai, wasn't it? Zorba's is a little cafe. It's a place to eat good food. If you want good Greek food, try it. If you want decor and atmosphere, buy a plane ticket. :-)

Of course you've eaten there a few times, your the guy that set it up arent you???? According to your previous posts on the classifieds forum you were the guy/girl looking for staff for the place.

Thanks a lot for telling us!

I'd never eat at a place where the owner fakes rave reviews to promote his own restaurant. Lame!

  10. I know, at every corner you can buy new Nokia phones. But the shops I saw all have exactly the same (official) price.

Are there shops who offer good discounts? How about MBK/4, are these shops too dodgy or lack with warranty/service?

    Any hints appreciated!
