  1. "I. Hate that....If I see this tosser in Patts...."

Patts? Seems to me if you are too lazy to say Pattaya(at a gigantic cost of 2 additional letters) getting out of your truck for anything would be a stretch. Or do you save your energy for those times you are called on to be an arse kicking, swash buckling, head banging, super cyber tough guy? Geeez.

  2. No rain and little water for irrigation meant the normal yield of about 350-400 kgs/rai went to about 200 on 1st 2 farms harvested. Managed to get enough for extended family use for this year and seed for next year. One 22 rai farm left and expect about the same. Currently undried is going for 14 if good quality and not much grass. 17-18 dried. Frustrating especially since we had to delay planting about 2 weeks because it was too wet. It then rained one more time all season. Rained all around us so close you could smell it but just made it hotter here. Such is life, glad I have other ways to buy my beer.

  3. Motorcycle Stuffing---Highest number of people, pets, farm animals, or any combination thereof aboard 100-135cc bike to travel 2kms on the wrong side of the road at full throttle. Riders must be alive when mounting, still on board at finish alive or not. Tie Breaker-fastest time.

  4. Lincoln said at the dedication of Gettysburg, "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain."

  5. Didn't this crap start when the military removed an elected government from office? Oh yeah, I forgot, the brillianat bastards in BKK determined the dumb bastards in the country weren't smart enough to vote. Someone tell me where else <deleted> like this happens? It does however, seem to me there are a number of countries on the planet where many dumb people vote (witness Obama) and they still find a way can change their government without stealing it, hijacking airports, or taking to the streets with weapons. I guess learning has never been much of a Thai thing, note how much history the average Thai is aware of. This country has no chance of ever being a player on the world stage. The only thing left to determine now is the final body count. So sad.

  6. "I lived in Elat from 1979 until 1982. It seems that would be around the time you were there? And started this trip from Elat to Cairo. Maybe you could tell us something about Elat and which route you were taking by bus to Cairo? Did you head south thru the Sinai or North thru the Negev?"

You gonna reply to this, geronimo?? Thought so.

  7. "I was sat under the only palm tree in sight, smoking a cigarette and wondering what was going to transpire, when I saw a group of camels coming over a sand dune. They approached me and one of them handed me a tin of peaches."

Which hand did the camel use when he handed you the peaches? I lived in the Arabian desert for over 15 years and the one thing that always stuck in my little brain is that you expend about a gallon of body fluids every hour just sitting under that palm tree you found (which I also never saw anywhere in the deep desert except at an oasis) which makes water pretty important. But good story, add some sex and send it to penthouse.

  8. "BTW many of the games are broadcast on the NCAA Radio Network via WestwoodOne" This is what I have done for the last 3 years as my internet connection isn't fast enough to support the streaming. If yours is this is probably better than TV since ALL the games are on and you can choose the one you want to watch. Thompson works a region and will eventually do the finals as well..like him much better as an analyst than coach.

BTW until TRUE decided to switch to ESPN China (to save a couple bucks I guess), the tournament was broadcast here. So was MLB not just Yankee ball. NCAA's and MLB is still on the real ESPN International, the one that goes to most markets, you know those willing to pay an extra buck or two for their subscribers. Last year while ESPN Int'l was showing sweet sixteen weekend TRUE was showing re-runs of the 2008 Big Ten gymnastics championships. So I wouldn't throw too many kudos to TRUE, someone over just finally woke up to another way to reel in around 600 more baht from their farang subscribers, but I can't say I'm not pleased they did.

  9. I'm not 100% sure but it looks like ASN is broadcasting most all of the NCAA Basketball playoffs. Pretty good news for yours truly who happens to bellieve that sweet sixteen weekend is the best sporting event on the planet. Go??? Jayhawks maybe?

  10. I realize it's a crap shoot but does anybody have a strong opinion about how much rain we may, or may not, get this year. I live about 90kms NW of Korat and have 3 rice farms, total of 48 rai. 2 are near the house, 15 rai, close to a canal, easy to move water and has a large pond (25mX30mX5m) so a lot of water storage. 25 rai has small pond next to canal and easy to move water but not much storage. I think with just a little rain the 15 rai will be OK but the 25 rai is shaky. The last farm is 8 rai, about 4kms from the house and needs normal rainfalls or forget it.

Everything I read says little or no rain this year. Last year we got around 15,000 kgs, haven't sold any and use about 10 bags/year (800kgs). Since I don't have any way to till I have to pay for someone else to do it, and with everything else it is expensive to plant. I am concerned that we are going to be throwing good money after bad. For sure I don't want to plant the 8 rai and question doing the 25. Seems to me we should let those 2 farms lie this year, plant the 15 rai, hold last years crop and hope. 'Course I have to get the family to agree and have you ever tried to convince a Thai farmer not to plant?

If anyone else has any feelings, intuitions, dreams, visions, etc. they would certainly be considered and appreciated. If you have an idea how to talk my mother-in-law into not planting I'd like to hear that as well.

As an alternative, is it possible/practical to till and sow the rice and then cover it. If it rains maybe it will work out, if it doesn't will the rice not germinate until next year?? Thanks in advance for any info provided.

  11. I hate to plug MS, but there is a program called Microsoft PowerToys for Windows that includes an image re-sizer and it is by far the best one I have found. Just right click on the photo and a window pops up and you have 5 or 6 choices of sizes. It even renames the re-sized pix and doesn't change the original. There are a couple more useful little programs in there as well. You can find the Power Toys at the MS download center.

  12. "There is a big difference between being robbed and being burgled, or burglarized. Big difference. :) "

Is this being robbed or being burgled??

I live outside of Korat and about 8 months ago someone unscrewed the kamoy bars on a side window and came into the house and even come into our bedroom and took cash, 3 cell phones and gold out of the headboard while we slept. Did not take my laptop or a top notch digital camera that was on my desk in the living room. Took my wallet but not my credit cards and left it in the car port, broke into and rummaged around my car and stole a small gold Buddha hanging from the mirror . I didn't have a dog but my neighbor's dog slept in the soi between or properties. He had been poisoned 3 days before the break in.

I subsequently got 3 dogs and about a month ago one was poisoned. I then stayed up all night and slept during the day for about a week. Thanks to the fast action of my neighbors the dog survived and is now more aware. Another bag of poisoned meat was thrown into my yard last week and he brought it to me without eating any. Obviously "they" are planning a return visit so I am sleeping the 2PM to 7PM shift again.

    Here's what I have to say about this;

    1. You never get over this violation. My wife still does not feel safe in her own home and the fact I can't give her that feeling of security back probably pisses me off more than anything.

    2. You must figure that a guy that is rooting around in your bedroom at 2AM while you are sleeping in it is armed with more than his gift of gab.

    3. People that do this are pretty much the lowest form of life on the planet and deserve no mercy or compassion.

    4. If I am ever forced to confront these scum on my property, I will use everything at my disposal and do all in my power to kill the SOB(s) and sort out the local legal implications later.

    5. The Thai police will never do anything to prevent this type of crime or apprehend the perpetrators. They finally showed up at my home 4 1/2 hours after they were called. They walked around the house once, told me I could pick up my wallet, asked my wife if we had a gun and why not when she told them no. They didn't even write down what was taken. They just left. There are about 50 cops in the amphur (7kms away) nearest me and that morning is the only time before or since I have ever seen a cop on my road. These guys are useless and just one step above the stabards that broke in.

In this country if you do not look out for yourself you are unlooked out for. Even your neighbors more than likely will not come to your assistance if you call out. Just know, you are on your own and prepare accordingly.
