  1. Would be honoured to try to beat you at pool midas, but i cannot divulge my uk money making scheme, and i dont think for a minute you are on a pittance.wouldnt play you at rugger though even though you wouldnt catch me 20 years ago lol.

Now you are getting spooky Bratpack......do you know me? Do you really have a crystal ball? your reference to teaching and now, rugby, makes me think you may be at an advantage here..... what else do you know?

  2. Maybe i should have a big bet that midas is from bangkok, but i LOVE you all even though you talk realy bad.

You're quite right Bratpack I am a strange sad guy. Not in Bangkok at the moment but expect to be back there earning a pittance again in mid July. Perhaps I could come visit next time you are in Pattaya and you could kick my @ss at pool and show me how to earn the big bucks like you.

    Cheers and beers :o

  3. Is stand offish nasty? What do you expect them to do, run around smiling and making conversations with every tourist they see?

Personally I don't have a problem with Bangkok people, and no problem being friendly with them or getting it back. It depends on yourself to a degree. Perhaps you are someone best avoided bratpack?

Doubt that you will have to avoid Bratpack as judging by the fact he has 250 plus posts in 21 days, he never strays far from his best friend..... his computer... lol :o

Better than being a teacher on a pittance lol.

    11.9 posts a day,now i think you have your maths wrong midas/popeye

What maths? Teacher on a pittance? Do you have a crystal ball attached to your computer my friend?

In my limited experience of Thailand (only 7 years all up) I have met far more unhappy / disreputable people of foreign origin in Pattaya than in Bangkok....... in that seven years I have spent a lot more time in Bangkok then Pattaya which would indicate to me that foreigners in Pattaya are less likely to be nice than foreigners in Bangkok....... You do the math when you get back from earning a quid!

Didnt mean you being a teacher, that was a joke.Any way i love you all espec bk people.I earned my quid, well in fact it was 10,000 quid yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.Minus a fee for a friend.

11.9 post a day and i can still earn big money.Still a bit more to be collected but not bad for a days work.

3 hours and six minutes less travel time..... hardly a days work, let's call it 3 hours work, that's 3,333 quid an hour, in Pattaya the only people that earn that sort of dosh are high class hookers and drug dealers, which are you?

  6. cool thx for the input @ everyone

It just differs from what I hear when I talk to random people in the bars. They mostly say that they rather keep silent about it because of stigmatisation which is understandable for me.

Yeah indeed a problem of me that I point at toursist in Pattaya who walk around with really young girls and call em exploting the thai citizens. Thats probably a bad generalisation. But on the other hand I talk to thai girls who mostly consider farangs as exploiting them. How valid theses statements are is indeed arguabel too.

On the other hand nr 1 statement is that thai ladies dont really like thai men too much, can someone explain how true that is?

cheers again for the input - this topic simply interests me

Reason all differ mate, a lot know that it will be hard to find a Thai guy with money to support them. Some girls who are after a good man will know that Thai guys will play around drinking, gambling, abusive, ect ect! mostly country girls, a lot of girls in Bangkok do not want anything to do with westerns!! I have no idea what the percentage in ill this will be thou.

Good to see you guys using your newly acquired second language in a positive way. Timy, you must be a wonderful people person for all those farang tourists to tell you their innermost secrets and the Thai girls to confide in you also.

RakJungTorlae, it's not just the girls in Bangkok that don't like westerns, I once took a girl in Phuket to see the Good the Bad and the Ugly and she didn't thoink it was a very good movie. :o

  7. Hi all

just wondering about the night markets?

Ive heard people talk about them but where are they and are they worth going too?

my aunty and uncle just got back from Patong and said the weather was really nice although very muggy in the evenings.

She had an email from her friends whos family r there now said the weather is wet all the time?

do u think we will still b able to have a good time and will the weather b good?

i dont want it to rain all the time i wanna tan by the pool ect!

No one has really answered my Question about chemically straightening! im having the bottom of my hair straightened whilst in Patong can anyone reccomend a good place please

    last but not least...

i know havent even been yet but leaving in 4 days.

And yes planning to go back again after that one! haha i love Phuket!

Honest opinion 8 teens/young adults 18yrs-22yrs old love drinking, sunbathing, swimming, dancing/bars and shopping! must be in patong what hotel should we stay at where there will be other teens/young adults?

    Thanks so much!

Beats me why you posted this on the Ladies in Thailand forum? Anybody would be able to tell you that you are unlikely to get much work done on your tan in Phuket at this time of year.. it will rain most days.. that will not preclude you having a good time. You will probably have a good time wherever you stay, after all it's only somewhere to sleep between raves right? Enjoy yourselves and remember to be polite and avoid confrontation. :o

  8. Just minutes before the church services started the towns people were sitting in their pews and talking. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the front entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate. Soon everyone had exited the church except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seemingly oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence.

So Satan walked up to the old man and said, 'Don't you know who I am?'

The man replied, 'Yep, sure do.'

'Aren't you afraid of me?' Satan asked.

'Nope, sure ain't' said the man.

'Don't you realize I can kill you with a word?' asked Satan.

'Don't doubt it for a minute,' returned the old man in an even tone.

'Did you know that I could cause you profound, horrifying, physical agony forever?'

    'Yep,' was the calm reply.

'And you're still not afraid?' asked Satan.

    'Nope '.

'More than a little perturbed, Satan asked, 'well, why aren't you afraid of me?'

The man calmly replied, 'been married to your sister for 45 years.'

The old guys wife must have been my ex-wife's twin sister.

  9. Where is Mojos?

Anyone know what the deal is with BGs? Obviously there are some that are staff, playing with punters in much the same way that they'd play connect 4 etc, but what I'm interested in are the freelancers, who play in the hope of picking up fellas. Someone told me there are a lot that are employed by the bars themselves, so aren't technically speaking freelancers - anyone know whether that's true or not? If it is true, and presumably it'll mean they play for free, then I'll feel less guilty about them losing their 20 baht so quickly.

Mojos is at the end on the right of the first sub soi on the right of Soi 33 I think it has 5 tables. The place where I've seen the most freelancers playing is Bullys, sometimes it's hard to get on a table and you often see two or three tables where both players are girls!

  10. I know at the school I studied at they wouldn't accept male teachers. The reason they gave me was something about them wanting to chat up the students.

Good luck and Kudos to you for making the effort. When I was learning (formally) If I ever asked the teacher Why? He would write Cough, Bough and Rough on the board and smile at me..... I soon stopped asking why. My class had both male and female teachers and I found the female was a little more patient. I can't think of a reason to hold one gender over the other as long as you keep your mind on your studies...

    Good luck. :o

  11. I'm after bars more than poolhalls though. I paid 120 for a singha in Hillary's II tonight - yikes!

Is Hillary II the one on the same side as NP? If so, I was there playing pool until about 9PM on the back 2 tables. Went to BIH afterwards. Actually made of day of hitting the bars after reading this thread. First BIH, then Bully's, then Hillary (II?), then back to BIH.

Dotcom, Sports Academy is quite a bit better than BIH, and both are way better than players IMO. If you haven't been there you should check it out after they open their doors, which will hopefully be Satuday from what I've heard. Players doesn't have comfortable seating or a good layout, too much wasted space on the bar sized tables, too many ugly ladies trying to hit on you, and just a general unfriendly atmosphere. Same feeling I got in New Wave after spending a bit of time there. Oddly enough, I found Players from some shaddy guys at New Wave. Seems the same type of people frequent both, and while it may have taken a while, I realized I didn't want to be a part of that scene. Only on my latest stop at Players did I not encounter the usual clientele, but that just helped me realize that the other reasons I mentioned will keep me from ever frequenting it.

Yes, Hillary's II is a bit further up from NEP and on the same side of the road. Hillary's I is opposite it. There's also just plain Hillary's on Soi 11, I think, which is actually pretty good - good tables (Brunswicks) and friendly staff to play if you're on your todd. It looks too small from the outside to be a poollhall, but goes up about 4 floors, I think.

Why is Sports Academy closed? It's another good choice. Walked by Players a couple of times, but it doesn't look up to much. I'm surprised at your comments on New Wave - aside from one or two pain in the arse working girls, who are easy to ignore, I've never had any problems with the place. Bloody awful music, I'll grant you. Actually, now you mention it, there were a gang of lads I didn't like in there when I first started going - haven't seen them in a while, so hopefully they have moved on. It has enough tables for you to move about quite quickly if you don't like your surroundings. I like it because you don't have to wait all day for a game. Too many girls to play though, many of which are very sore losers.

Mojos.... Thanks for that Ashacat. It's quite a nice bar with reasonable prices, music and eye candy. I has forgotten about sports academy, agreed, it's a pretty good place to play, they also have reasonable food.

What's the story with the BG's that hate to lose? It's almost as if they expect you to let them win...F@#K that!!!!

If the OP is into snooker on the big tables that could open a whole new thread, I've never been to a country with so many full size tables.

Perhaps we could have a Thai Visa pool/championship night? What about it sponsors???? :o

  12. Dies anybody know of a western pie shop high end suk that do nice pies/pasties etc, im really startin to hanker for a pukka pie

    Please help me

The pies in the Down Under bar, Soi 23 are pretty good. I think you can even order them to be home delivered, check their website.

  13. So far I've been to Morning Night, New Wave, Gullivers, the first bar on the left on Soi Cowboy, Hillary's II (and the one opposite it) and a few others I can't remember the names of.

    My review of the above are as follows;

Morning Night - 3 reasonable tables, some good cues, excellent music (and they take requests), decent service. Expensive beer, though. Any bar that plays Adored by the Stone Roses as I first walked in the door is going to get my custom.

Gullivers - 9 reasonable tables, crap cues, crap service. Cheap beer, though.

Hillary's II - 4 reasonable tables, cues ok, service ok, expensive beer.

First bar on soi cowboy - 5 good tables, good cues, cheap beer, hit and miss music, good service, good bar. Runner up.

New Wave - 7 excellent tables, good cues, good service, decently priced beer, crap music. Overall, a clear winner on the pool side of things.

    ********************************************************************************

Can anyone recommend any other pool bars? The holy grail is a bar with good quality *winner stays on* tables, good cues, good atmosphere and ideally cheap drinks. Another plus would be a mainly farang crowd - I get sick of playing girls all night.

Ball in Hand bar, up Soi 4 about 400 meters and turn right at the 711 and it's about 40 yards on your right, up stairs to the bar and also the sin bar on the top floor.

Soi 33 opposite the Office, can't remembr the name but good tables and music, plus really cheap Fajitas on Tues night with a free draft beer (199 Baht for food and beer).

  14. A water system. My uncle in the US uses this and said it is fantastic. Simple to install he said too.

If these things really work, why do absolutely ZERO cars come with them as standard (or at least an option)?

No argument with the used chip oil in the diesel, well proven and demonstrated, need to be careful in the UK as it tends to gel in the tank at low temperatures. Home made bio-diesel is perfectly legal in the UK provided you pay the small amount of duty required (it's because methanol is used to make bio-diesel).

Tax an politics sir. How would the allies fund their illegal wars etc without the support of the sheep paying their taxes

There is currently a bit of a scandal in Australia over this guy who runs a company called Firepower which marketed a tablet that you dropped in your fuel tank for supposed amazing results. He sponsored Souths Rugby league club and the Sydney Kings basketball team as well as the Western Force Rugby Union team. He must have been very convincing as he sucked in AUSTRADE, who promoted his company in Russia. The guy is currently in hiding from investors, as the product is useless. You know the saying..... If it seems too good to be true it probably is!!!

  15. I'm less sure about พฤติการณ์, which in my experience is the rarest of the three*. The distinction between พรฤติกรรม and ความประพฤติ, though, is rather academic, and likely isn't maintained in actual usage. But this is how I understand it (I've talked about this before with prof I know who teaches Thai and English at Chula).

พฤติกรรม = n. behavior; used as a technical term in psychology, as in "learned behavior" or "erratic behavior".

    ความประพฤติ = n. conduct; the verb form being ประพฤติ. So, ประพฤติตน = conduct oneself.

*This is supported by web hits on Google:

    พฤติกรรม = 5.3 million

    Agree.. behaviour, conduct

    ความประพฤติ = 550K

    Similar, same as above

    พฤติการณ์ = 160K

Believe this is more related to circumstance I.E Nai (insert word) chen none (in those circumstances).

Sorry can't figure out how to use Thai fonts.

Thinking more about it, here's a theory. พฤติกรรม is more about observable behavior, perhaps even more habitual, hence the usage in psychology. ความประพฤติ is conduct, and thus something one is more conscious of and has more control over (hence ประพฤติตน "conduct oneself), but not necessarily habitual, where พฤติกรรม could even be unconscious behavior. And for พฤติการณ์, the Google results bring up many hits for private investigators observing the พฤติการณ์ of people. So maybe that's more like their comings-and-goings, their daily dealings, their interactions with others, which distinguishes it from พฤติกรรม and ความประพฤติ. Sound plausible?

Again, I doubt if most people carefully distinguish them, though.

  16. Fantastic!!

My work place is next to the venue at Evason Phuket & Six Senses Spa - Rawai Beach.

Quick, you best to get in 8 more posts before midnight tonight.

awwwww....the deadline has come and gone. :D

When is Thai Visa going to host a BBQ in Bangkok? I have seen them advertised in Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket and even Surin. Much as I'd like to attend those venues, Bangkok would be more convenient and I would get to meet some of the members that reside in Bangkok. That's my whine for the month :o .

  17. thank you very much.

    i'm at a loss.

it's not as easy as you think to walk away from a seven year relationship.

i stil love him very much.

to answer the question, we lived in Dorset most of the time.

    in poole.

he always drank heavily but it has gotten out of control.

i rarely see him anymore, he isn't home now.

i know i should leave him but he is realoly lovely when he wants to be.

It's called tough love hon; sit him down and air out your thoughts, what sort of changes you would like to see happen and set a deadline. If things haven't changed or improved considerably by then, well then it's time to move on

    Good luck

    Mike

Good advice here Mike. Your decision, but only after you confront him (try and find a sober moment to do so if you can). I know the ladies won't like this but ask him if it's anything that you are (or are not) doing that is causing his unacceptable behaviour. All the very best of luck, I hope it works out for you one way or the other.

  18. Good on you mate. I had my last cigarette on Friday 6 June at 1255 after smoking a pack a day for 40 years. So far, so good, no cravings at all. The only downside is that my lungs have now decided to off-load all the crap that has built up in them and I find myself bringing up a lot of Phlegm. I am a little worried that I will put on weight as my appetite increases. :o

  19. Time for all those with claimed connections to the local Old Bill to make calls and push for justice.

Don't let this rest, he's one of our own here.

Kurgen has a punctured lung, the knife came very close to his heart, don't think it was damaged. First night in BP was 70K baht.

The other person is a local lawyer who told a very different story to the BIB. :o Kurgen will need some help here. :D

Bugger, the worst possible scenario, an adversary with all the connections to other colleagues, the coppers and the judges :D

<deleted> is a lawyer doing with a knife in the first place? Get well quick Kurgen, it would appear your problems will escalate once you recover. I hope that someone on TV has bigger and better connections than the Thai lawyer. Good Luck mate!!

  20. I guess they are just blending in, I mean, this is the land of baggy shorts and flip flops. Your average Thai is a right scran bag.

You wouldn't happen to be ex-Australian Navy would you Gymshark? It's the only place I've heard the term Scran bag! Wearing socks with sandals.....must be a European thing.

  21. Kiwis also use it in their fields around dusk....sometimes at dawn also.

We could probably go on Ad Nauseum about the origins of various words, the horrors of War or a township just outside Liverpool on another thread. Let's get back to the GOM. No reports so far today, is anyone heading to Emporium? Interesting how this topic on Facebook garners only support for Carl's action and disdain for the GOM!

  22. Did you know that 'hoohah' has a different meaning in Oz ?

    No. Please enlighten me.

To enlighten yourself, take tissue paper, book and good hose to the little boys room.

Must have been specific to your household my friend, perhaps it was your mummy's pet word for the act. Personally I have never heard the word used in any other context than as used by US Marines. :o
