Why was the track in China dropped?
-
dam_n Canuckleheads lost to the Americans. Props to the American team and especially Ryan Miller who stood on his head to get the win. I can't really complain as it was a good game and I thought both teams played well. Having said that if they lose to Germany... >
Anyone figured out where we can watch the game? I watched it over skype by having a friend in Vancouver point his computer at the tv. Would love to join some hockey fans here for the next game.
-
Are there any pubs open this early in the morning where I can watch the game?

If it's a private language school that doesn't cater to Thais at all, say teaching French to English kids does the school still require a license from the Education department? Sorry this is probably a naive question but can't you just run it like a normal business and hire whoever you want?

Is it an iPod or iPhone? What OS are you using on your computer? Mac or Windows?

What's the difference between the factory unlocked phones and the hacker unlocked phones? Is it hardware or software? If it's software why can't the hacker community put the factory unlocked software on the locked phones to make them factory unlocked? A better question is why the hel_l doesn't Apple ditch AT&T and just start selling factory unlocked phones like the Nexus One? AT&T must be paying Apple a fortune to keep them from jumping to a better carrier.

You could try here. You could also try not writing your posts in Comic Sans.

Anyone interested in an early morning meet to watch the Canada games? If so PM me as I'd love to watch some hockey.

I highly recommend Patrick's work. I have a relatively new site and within a matter of month many of my blog posts were listed on the first page of search results. Do a search for bangkok motorcycle taxi and you'll see that my video links comes up 5 times on the 1st page.

I like the Alley because it holds a lot of stuff and yet is nice and thin. The one thing that pisses me off about the bag is that it doesn't have a dedicated water bottle holder and in BKK I almost always have water with me. I emailed RADTech and they suggested I take a look at the STM Duplex, which I saw in Pantip. It's a great bag but huge compared to my Alley so I didn't buy it.
-
I've never heard of Steed but I've travelled all around the world with my STM Alley and it's been a great bag. I've owned it for probably close to 4 years and it's still in mint condition I now have a 15" MBP so it doesn't fit in my bag but I still use it because it holds a surprising amount of stuff.

I have the STM Alley, great bag. I've seen the iStudio store in Pantip Plaza selling various STM bags. I think they are on the 3rd floor.

It does look pretty strict but I notice on this page they have an area for number of entries requested. http://www.thaiembassy.jp/visa-e/doc/visaN.pdf Too bad they won't answer email. I'll see if I can get someone in Japan to phone and found out what the deal is.

Just to clarify, can I get a multiple entry tourist visa for Thailand in Tokyo? It's either Tokyo or Vientiane for me and I'd rather go to Tokyo if the tourist visa is available.

I need to get to Maharaj Pier tomorrow. The nearest pier that seems to have boat travel is Tha Chang. If I take the BTS down to Sathon Pier is there a boat I can take to Tha Chang? If there is a boat does it go direct or do I have to transfer some where?

The frustrating experiences thread got me thinking about my first 3-6 months here in Thailand. For me that was the most frustrating time as much of what I had thought about Thailand turned out to be wrong. Such as, everything is dirt cheap, don't worry there are no mosquitos in the city, and everyone speaks English.
So what was your first 3-6 months like adjusting to life in Thailand? What are some of the rookie mistakes you made that you look back on now and laugh? Did you find anything here completely different than what you were told or expected?

I switched to Google DNS and it hasn't made any difference with YouTube or any streaming media sites. I'm with TOT in Bang Na and I suspect that TOT is limiting the bandwidth for streaming video.
-
Not to beat a dead horse, but does anyone else think that ToT is governing youtube bandwidth? Even when all other sites are working fine, youtube is moving at a crawl. It literally can take 20 minutes to download a 4 minute video. I supposedly have 3mbps bandwidth. With such bandwidth, I shouldn't even have to pause and let it load. I'm sick of this crap!
I have the same problem. I have the 3mbps monthly plan from TOT and almost all streaming video comes in at a crawl. Any ideas on how I can speed up video streaming?

Anyone else find their allergies get worse when it's cooler outside? My allergies were terrible a few weeks back but went away once it warmed up but now that it is cool again I'm back to itchy eyes and stuffed up nose. I went to Boots and bought some type of Thai anti-histamine but it doesn't seem to be helping. Any other suggestions on dealing with allergies?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. My concern is my landlord taking advantage of this to get me to pay to redo the entire floor. I'd rather pay now to have that specific panel replaced but I'll look into the wood glue solution.
-
I chipped part of the laminate wood flooring in my apartment. This particular panel is slightly raised and I caught it on the bottom of my chair. Can this one panel be fixed or does the whole floor have to come up? If if can be fixed any idea on where/who I can contact? Also anyone know where I can buy a floor mat like the one pictured?

Chances are you have a 1st generation unlocked and jailbroken iPhone. With the app store there isn't much point in jailbraking the phone anymore but you will need to unlock it to use it in Thailand. iClarified has a easy to follow tutorial. Once you've upgrade to iPhone OS 3.0 you will have built in Thai fonts and a host of other improvements.

Thanks Gaccha good info and I'll check it out.

Like the subject says, is there a Thai equivalent for bon appetit?

Ain't that the truth. How many times did we get the Naslund "we choked" speech? But don't worry there is always next year.
