  1. Well, I congratulate all you boys and you can slap yourselves on the back for me. You really have a lot to learn about world finance but you will indeed have your chance, very soon.

Have any of you actually lived through a sustained global downturn? No, I thought not. Well, you will get your chance. I love the exuberance of youth, even if not that young, but well shall we say inexperienced. Even at 40 you haven't yet been burned. You should know better by your age. I learned most of this by 20.

There will be no global downturn :o

  2. Never ceases to amaze me how people can knock someone they have never even met ? so what if the bloke has known her 2 weeks or two years they made a decision to marry and i hope it works out for them , i knew my first wife for 5 years before marrying her and that ended with divorce so what has time got to do with it .

To the post above where his mate supports his wife and child yesssss thats what we do as men :o .

  3. And his visa chances are ??????????

Tough call .............Depends how the guy and his wife present themselves .

He will need to get the marriage registered in Bkk , he will need to show he has steady income and he will need to show that he has a roof over his head .

Embassy does not know he only knew her for 2 weeks :D .

Of course they will its his first trip one stamp and married :D

He could have been chating with her on the net or sending love letters for 5 years :bah::D:D .

Life is as hard as he wants to make it :o

  4. Hi again all. :D

You'll notice the new name. I guess those who are interested will recognise me. I've only been a member for a day or so.

I realise this is early in the relationship to be thinking of such things but I'm in need of some advice, again. I know that I'm a bit of a control freak & like to cover as much as possible as soon as I can. Would hate to be walking down the aisle knowing jackshit about what I was getting myself into.

The answer to this question will vary from household to household, so a general idea will suffice.

I'm not wealthy by most standards. Still working in my late 50's I have substantial equity in my home & a reasonable superannuation. I will be eligible for the Oz aged pension in about 6 1/2 years. I'm trying to establish what sort of income I'll require if & when I move over to paradise to be with the lady im starting the relationship with. It's possible that we will live here in Oz for a few years until I retire. I earn reasonable money here & am still fit & healtyh enough to keep it coming in. She owns her own home & small shop & runs some cattle as extra income. There's no children or relatives to condider. I realise than on initial arrival there would be some considerable "establishment" costs from me. I'd also most probably invest in some sort of motor vehicle, not a bomb. I'd rather not dispose of all assets here in Oz initially. I think better to set up some form of monthly income as I doubt I'd be able or interested in work except helping with the shop & farm. I don't have an extravagent life style but would like to take the lady & maybe parents away from time to time for a weekend. :D

So ! am I on the right track ? Like I said the sum would vary from person to person but a ball park figure will get me started.

I'm thick skinned, be brutal, tell me the truth. :o I can handle it.

Thanks again...I'm looking forward to buying some of you beers when I come visit next January.

    Cheers....Malt48

  5. 2000 plus views and only a handful of genuine opinions. This probably says a lot about forum psychology. People (myself included) love to jump on errors in other peoples arguments. But as far as putting their alias on the line and sharing their own potentially flawed logic, especially with ideas that don't fit pigeon hole responses, there is quite a bit of hesitation.

I think we take ourselves a bit too seriously here. A ten year prediction has about as much chance of being accurate as a racial profile of Michael Jackson performed by Sea Gypsies on loa khoa. It's just a guess, although it is obvious by the comments here that there are some people to whom this question hits close to the office. Anyhow, I am pleased that some people gave it a shot, the mystery of tomorrow is a refreshing change from some of the more sundry topics of late.

What changes have you seen the last 10 years ?

  6. In April i stayed in a hotel on the Thai Military camp and it was fantastic , i cant remember the name of the hotel but someone else from Hua Hin will know it . On the base there were Thai style houses and the Hotel we stayed at the Hotel .I have stayed at many hotels in Hua Hin and if i was to go back tomorrow i would book into the Military camp hotel and its a fraction of the price of other Hua Hin Hotels .

Big Rooms , Very Clean , Great food , and right in the beach :o .

  7. Hi,

This is my first post, so hello to you all. I've been lurking for a while now, reading the posts and now is the time for me to ask you all a question.

I'm travelling to Thailand in the autumn and will be in the Northern Isaan region in November. This will be my first trip out and I thought, who better to give me ideas than those that live there?

So, I'd be very grateful for ideas on what to see - and maybe what is not worth seeing!

I have already earmarked the Jurassic Park/Sirindhorn Museum in Kalasin Province. And the Loy Krathong festival.

There will be no children on the trip, just middle aged people.

Transport/ accomodation will be organised once we have worked out an itinery!

    many thanks

    :o

Elephant round up 3rd week in Nov Surin :D

  8. G'day Gentlemen,

I'm not in Thailand yet, and you have me confused. My wife and I are to travel, and retire there next month. We are in posession of 'Non immigrant visas, classification 'O_A', extension of stay not permitted'. They are multiple entry visas, valid for one year from the date of entry in my passport. My advice from the High Comission here in Perth is as below.

The visa is valid for one year from the date of stamping in my passport.

I should report to immigration every 90 days, from the date of my entry into the Country.

I do not have to exit the Country for the 90 day contact, it will be done locally.

The visa is renewable in the Country, again at a local immigration office.

If my comments above are not right, please would someone advise, it's no problem for me to get more information.

    Regards.

Your Visa is different from the visa that i and Jarred have , your visa is as you have explained .

  10. This thread just brought a stabbing pain in my chest , i was walking in Chatuchak last month in the section where they sell livestock and this Thai guy says to me u want buy monkey as i was walking past his stall , i say no thank you he then says something in Thai . I asked my wife what did he say and she said he said you have one already .

I turned back to lamp the sh&tbag my wife got hold of my sleeve on my shirt and asked what i was doing , i told her i was going to sort him out and the wife says to me ignore him i walked on , it spoilt my day i was angry with myself that i did not lamp him , but also happy that i took the wifes advice because it was going to get messy .

IF this had happened in my own country this insult , i would have put the idiot on his arse .We dontrealy have to put up with this sh&t and although i feel we should try stay clear of fighting with smartarse Thais they do take the piss and somtimes do push the wrong buttons .

I have had the Oi falang treatment but it was always from someone with a big smile on there face and its never realy bothered me , when walking in Bkk my wife has to put up with stupid comments mainly from Tuk Tuk drivers sitting around doing nothing inthere little groups it realy does piss me off .

  11. Well they did not look after him by putting him in the Evason , i stayed there last year i thought it was a DUMP , have stayed at the Hilton Hua Hin and did not like that also :o . Marriot Hua Hin is good if they give you one of the better rooms even in this resort hotel some of the rooms are crap and thats being polite :D

  12. I have been looking at the serviced condos also , most of the condos offered on the net are sh&tholes , i have given up with the net and will look once i land back in Bkk , i like the Centre point group but for 2 bed condo they are out of our price range .

Please post up if you find anything nice .

  13. Hi & welcome to the Issan forum.

If you feel some of the questions could be a bit personal dont post them IMHO.

Send me a PM will be more than happy to help with advice.

My advice would be to post them in the open forum , nothing will be too personal and people dont know you from Adam :o The poster above sounds over qualified to me to just take his/hers advice :D , lots of people in here with different experiences in Thailand best advice you will get is from an open forum .

  14. Its not all doom and gloom , if you beleived most of the storys on the internet you would have nothing more to do with Thai people , but i can tell you that the Thai people i have met and are now famly are some of the most genuine honest caring loving people in the world .

Take things slowly use your gut feeling and ask for advice on the forum when you need it .

    Someone will help you .

    Good luck JB

  15. I had 3 kids born in Uk and 1 born in Thailand 2003 and i must say the Thai hospital was first class , to compare the two countrys care i would say that Thailand makes uk look like the 3rd world country :o . My brother had baby born in Usa and picked up a bill for 6000 bucks , my Thai baby was born by C section and i think the bill was 35k baht the best 35k i have ever spent :D .
