1. Just go to the various bank websites and a lot of them have a property section listing all their properties.

    For example:

    http://property.scb.co.th/

    http://www.krungsriproperty.com/

I bought my condo from a bank. Be warned though, most repossessed properties are repoed for a reason (ie previous owner had no money/was a bum etc..) So this means most of the bank properties are not in the best condition.

It took me couple of months of work to overhaul this place, but was worth it in the end.

If you're looking for a nice new spiffy unit to move right into, buying a repoed property may not be the best way to go.

But if you don't mind doing a bit of fixing up then there are definitely deals to be had.

The Krungsri link was great had link for English , the Scb link i could get work my way around to finding the property section its all in Thai . If anyone has any more same links please post them , i did a google and did not come up With much .

  2. Worse value of the whole lot 70 sq metre condo 25 mins from london 305k sterling Yukkkk.

70 sq metres for 20 mil baht, no joeuk?

If you saw the prices property was selling for in the uk it would blow your mind , in 1994 i bought a 3 bedroom semi for my mother to live in paid 135k and thought it was overpriced and exspensive . This house in 2006 was valued at 360-380 grand .The average price of houses in london went up by 43k in the last year ( reported on eveing standard today ) the average price for property in london now is 313k and i can tell you there is some very grim property in london beleive me :o .

Crazy i know but thats the facts , anyone that gets off the property ladder in uk and goes to Thailand , WILL have a problem should they want to return unless they make plenty of money while living there :D .

    BACK TO TOPIC :D

  3. Things are a little bit different about buying land and property in Thailand when you have children :o i spend a bit of money in Thailand and will do in future , my children in the uk own there own propertys paid for by me and i want to have investments in Thailand for my kids there as well . Land -Property in Thailand will go up like everywhere else and i put a few safe guards in place for wife and kids in case i were dead tomorrow .

Ps money in the bank is no good to me i like it invested .

  4. Completely stupid thread.

It's not about boasting about how much people have. It's about how much people individually feel is enough to live on or retire. And that is a personal choice. When i see people proposing to give up their lives in the UK, for example, for 40,000 a month and they have another 40 years to live, i genuinely worry because for ME (and I;m the only person I can talk about) it's never going to be enough. So to say it is enough would be irresponsible.

What are we supposed to do? Pretend we can / want to live on much less?

No thanks. I could, of course, live on 20,000 a month but - frankly - i wouldnt want to. If others can and do, up to them.

For me, a 100,000 a month is minimum. If I dont have that, i wouldnt even consider living here cos this is no place to be relatively poor.

Would you post the luxurys that you get from your 100,000 plus a month and give a breakdown of where you spend the money , i would like to see what i am missing :o .

For someone like myself that does not go whoring , i dont drink , i cant see if i was full time resident that i would spend 100k a month .

Please dont tell me part of the 100k goes in rent as most poor farangs i know in thailand own there own condos or houses :D .

  5. Hi all, I'm looking for a budget hotel around Ladprao area which has in-room internet (either wifi or wired). I plan to stay there about 1-4 weeks while looking for a more long term accommodation in said area.

    Any recommendations would be great.

    Thanks.

    - oops, typo in title, should be of course Ladprao, any way to fix it?

    Is Ladprao Victory monument ?

  6. Currently I've been reading books by W.Vajiramadhi. I'm not on "Looking Death in the Eye". All the books are written by a Thai monk in both Thai and English, and show the attitude of Thai Buddhists in particular. The one that I'm reading right now is quite an eye opener.....

I have just read books 1-7 The law of Karma by Phra rajsuddhinanamonkol , asia book shops 150 baht each .

  7. My advice to the OP .

Sell your house for the 150k put the money on deposit so that you cant touch it and the the 150k will give you your needed monthly income . To live well in Bkk imho opinion 40k plus rent is more than enough , that gives you a 12k condo it wont be anything too flashy but you will find somewhere ok to live as a starter home for the 12k .

Some months you wont get through the 40k and that will give you some savings , and it wont be long before you will get on your feet . Re selling the house in the uk look at all outgoing cost and cost of moving to Thailand flights etc its important that you hold onto as much of the 150k as possible .

You must have furniture , and many things in your house that you wont be taking to Thailand , sell them for the best possible prices that you can get for them and that money will be your float , money to start your little buisness in Thaland money for a rainy day . If you can sit tight in uk for the moment and pull in another 10k sterling saving and selling things you now no longer need that will give you 600k in a Thai bank acct a nice position to be in with the 50k coming every month .

    Future .

I have seen many houses for sale new builds in Bkk for 2-3 million baht , WHEN you save and earn the money to buy your own home in Bkk the 50k you have coming from uk every month will be more than enough for you and your wife to have a happy enjoyable life .

    Go for it .

  8. I like yoiur perspective and frankness.

I looked in an area for two years for a piece of land to come up for sale and nothing , imho is a good location , with beauty , area where you could look and see the temple in the distance , looking across open fields and mountains in the distance , one day a piece of land comes up for sale just over 1 rai 450k and i was told it was too exspensive and i was nuts to buy the land .

A thai family bought the land and nothing more has come up for sale and maybe wont in future , i always thought north east Thailand would be very cheap to land , i have seen land near the citys in the Nth East change hands at 1 million baht a rai and thats Thais buying it .

Yeah land does come up for sale in the middle of nowhere for cheap money but it has its reasons why its cheap , this is building land your buying somewhere for you and your wife to put a home , land in the uk countryside is cheaper than Thailand but you cant build on it .

If the locations right and somewhere you will build a home and it will make you and your wife happy just buy it , you pay 1 time no mortgage done deal .

  9.
Bung Sam Lan Lake is nothing but a fish farm where you catch fish that has been caught by others dozens of times. No catches there should count as world records, no matter what their size is.

How big is the lake that this fish Was caught in ? is it open to the public and what do they charge to fish a lake like this ?

    JB

  10. look around at some of the old topics and you will find lots of info about fish farming....if you want to discuss something then start a topic to discuss what aspect of fish farming you want to discuss.

To answer your question: yes, several members have tried fish farming with various degrees of success.

friendly bunch on here aren't they.

    :D

Some of them, maybe... :D but then there is the rest of us.

What kind of fish do you have in mind ? and what is the size of you pond ? and where are you located.

I do fish-farming on a big scale (Tilapia) or plar Nin/Taptim as the Thais call them. If you are a beginner then it would be easier for you to start with catfish, they are not as sensitive as Tilapia.

But dont exspect to get rich from it, just to break even is hard.

If you are close to Buri-Ram, then we supply fingerlings and fish feed (floating pellets) to very resonable prices.. :o

    Regards

    Tilapia.

I will pay you a visit at some stage smiler , not to buy fingerlings i will want buy some of your bigger fish put them in my lake and then enjoy fishing for them :D

How much a kilo for the bigger fish ?

    JB

Ps i will need plenty of pellets as i want them to grow BIGGER :D

  11. I did 5 trips last year Uk / Thailand plus internal trips Ireland /Uk while in the uk , 5 years ago i had to do round trips Oz / uk/ Thailand . 12. I did trip alone with my son to uk when he was 9 mths and then again at 15mths and again at 18 mths , piece of cake , good advice above where it was posted dont let them sleep , and your child will then have good sleep on the plane .

My only gripe was when landing in uk airport , having to que for a ;ong time with small child at passport control , and no one to help with baggage . Trying to push a pushchair and trolly at same time takes some doing :o .

  13. Hotel is open to everyone , you would not know its a Thai millitry base other than when you go through the barrier and it has two soldiers on guard :o , as i said the rooms are big i had triple room , hotel is spotless clean , food is great and at Thai prices , swimming pool was great and had smaller shallow pool for the kids . Gardens were well kept and when we were there big pink flowers in full bloom .

Upside for hotel is it backs straight onto the empty beach , white sand , we got up early every morning my 3 year old son loved collecting washed up shells , You can have room with sea view and the hotel is not exspensive . I was asked if i lived in Thailand and with having 0 visa i got the discount rate which i think was 900 baht a nite .

On the same land as the Hotel there are Thai style houses , they looked nice but when we were there they were full as it was Thai holiday period , it was a great holiday and i am happy we stayed at the hotel on this base .

Other Hotels i have stayed in Hua Hin .

Hilton hated it the hotel is old , rooms are old and swimming pool area full ,loud music and woman doing step at 10 am in the morning not for me would not stay there if it was free .

Evason this place is run down and in the middle of nowhere i would not stay here again of it was free .

Marriott resort , its a nice resort relaxing BUT stayed here 3 times and on 1 trip had very nice room near pool 2nd trip was ok room and 3rd trip they put me in one of the buildings right at the back at the complex on the top floor ( 4th ) no lift and a small child .

Its Thai millitry base in future for me , if anyone stays there please post up let me know how you get on .

    Enjoy JB

  15.
In April i stayed in a hotel on the Thai Military camp and it was fantastic , i cant remember the name of the hotel but someone else from Hua Hin will know it . On the base there were Thai style houses and the Hotel we stayed at the Hotel .I have stayed at many hotels in Hua Hin and if i was to go back tomorrow i would book into the Military camp hotel and its a fraction of the price of other Hua Hin Hotels .

Big Rooms , Very Clean , Great food , and right in the beach .

JB

That sounds ideal, thanks.
Does anyone have any contact information for there?

Cheers,

John.

I would like to tell you that the beach is beautifull white sand , the pool at the hotel is spotless and has child swimming pool , when i stayed there it was mainly ALL thai familys woman and kids ( dont know where the men were lol ) when i have my next holiday in Hua Hin this is where we will stay again . It realy is worth finding out the address and phone number let me know how you get on if you do stay there .

  17. Land imho is worth the price someone is willing to pay for it , near the land that i paid for , 9 rai is up for sale @ 5 million baht i feel the land will be unsold , i have paid for land @ 100k a rai and turned away sellers @ 20k- 50k a rai . Land that has water elec is on the roadside and near the city mkt shops etc will fetch a premium . The land you are being offered check it out and if you are happy with the purchase then just buy it and dont worry about what someone else says its worth . If its the location you want and you feel it will make you happy then buy it .
