  1. If new, the Apple Store online is definitely the way to go. Refurbished, I would go with Lazada as already mentioned. As I posted in another thread, I got a factory refurb 32GB white 4S from them the other day.

It was delievered 2 days later to my door by courier. Was literally as good as new and factory unlocked. Real bargain at around 11,000 baht when you consider they are 15,000 from the Apple Store for an 8GB.

  2. I wouldn't put House of Cards or Homeland ( I would put them in Tier 2 below) in the same league as Breaking Bad (solid Tier 1 show). Here's my list:

    Tier 1:

    The Wire

    The Sopranos

    Deadwood

    Six Feet Under

    Mad Men

    Treme

    Twin Peaks

    The Shield

    Justified

    Tier 2:

    Boardwalk Empire

    Carnivale

    24

    Lost

Orange is the New Black (still first season, definitely has Tier 1 potential)

Rectify (still first season, definitely has Tier 1 potential)

    Les Revenants

    Weeds

    Oz

Terriers (stupidly cancelled after one season)

    Louie

    Comedy:

    Curb Your Enthusiasm

    Arrested Development

    Eastbound and Down

    Mr Show

    Community

    30 Rock

    Parks & Rec

Edit: Knew I'd forget something, I'm sure there's others - GoT obviously and True Detective. Both Tier 1 for me.

  3. My experience was the reverse. I bought a MBP late last year because I liked the hardware. The intention was to shrink the OSX partition right down since I had no intention of using it, and install Windows on the main partition. After trying OSX for a few days I found I much preferred it and Windows now sits virtually unused on a 60GB partition (out of a total 512GB SSD).

I'm no noob. I'm a hardcore Windows user since 3.1 (DOS before that) right up to Windows 7, and I often use the command line (Windows on a PC and Linux on a dedicated server). For me the Mac OS is simply better.

No disrespect intended, but your contention that "Your [sic] just too limited and treated like a child" is frankly nonsense. Just because the OS is forgiving on grandma and the clueless doesn't mean the power isn't there in spades for people that know how to properly utilise it.

  4. It looks like Season 4 premiers here on HBO/Thailand on Sunday, April 13, 2014, with (presumably Thai subs), so expect local trackers to have it within a day or two?

Because of the crazed prudishness of HBO in Thailand (and Asia generally), this version is likely to be heavily edited. If a sub file is produced from this version, it won't sync with the version on western trackers, since this has been capped from HBO in the US (unless someone re-syncs it and adds the missing bits, which is a pretty big job).

You could of course watch the crappy edited version if you're so inclined.

Edit: Just noticed you're also looking for versions with English subs. There are a couple around. You can PM for specifics if you're interested.

  5. It's all well and good reading articles about it, but there is no substitute for actually trying it out.

This. I dual boot my MBP with Win7. I only allocated 60GB on the SSD to windows because I hardly ever use it any more. Deleted the page file to free up some space on the windows partition and haven't had any problems whatsover (I do have 16GB of RAM on board).

  6. The only way I have been able to make any use out of my True internet connection has been to use a VPN connection - to anywhere.

There seems to be two seperate (but probably related) issues with True at the moment:

    1. Routing issues

    2. Speed issues

The first can be solved with a VPN. The second cannot. I am still getting dial-up speed downloads on my 13/1 ADSL connection in BKK. It's a real pain.

  7. Here's a traceroute to my server in France. Looks like a problem at the True gateway.

    Traceroute has started…
