^Thanks for the advice. All very helpful. I will be carting it around occasionally, so the iMac is a no go really.

Why not the Macbook Air 13"? Save yourself a bunch of weight. Very good resolution, unless Retina is critical?
Yeah, I want the Retina screen. Also, a 13" is too small for me. I won't be moving it around that much anyway, it's more of a desktop replacement.
I do have my concerns about the MBP though, primarily that everything is now glued to the motherboard making repairs difficult and pretty much impossible to upgrade the RAM or the SSD. Also, no dedicated graphics card in the new model.

I have to agree about Compaq/HP. My experience of both has been absolutely terrible (admittedly this was about 8 years ago).
I've had a great experience with Vaios. My last 2 laptops (the first was a mid-range, the second a high end model) have been running for 7 and 4 years respectively without a single hardware issue and both of them have been hammered.
I'm looking to buy a new machine, but I can't find anything I really like in the new Vaio ranges which now seem kind of all over the place and incoherent, so I'll probably go for a Macbook Pro.

My experience of 365 has been excellent. Software works well on the laptop, never had any buffering issues. Streams also play well on iPad and iPhone (there's no app, it runs inside the browser). My connection is True ADSL 13/1.5 in BKK.
Customer service is great and they are a friendly bunch. Fast response time.
I would say go for it definitely (I think they've got some promotion at the moment - 6 months for 2,000 baht, but I'm pretty sure it ends today, so you might want to hurry if you decide to sign up).

... got some links to examples of readily available seedboxes?

It's not just you. I've been having problems the last couple of days (BKK - Thonburi). Connection is very unstable. Maybe it's all the rain.

Weird. What kind of devices are you trying to play the music on? Do you have a phone or an ipod or something you can try to use to eliminate the possibility of the player(s) being at fault? Also, compare the files sizes on the USB to the originals on the computer and make sure they're exactly the same.

Try a private tracker. If you're in Thailand you might want to try somewhere like bitded. Not sure if sign-ups are open, but you can try.

Sounds like a problem with the flash drive. Try another one. Either that or the devices you're trying to play the music on can't read the flash drive fast enough (seems unlikely).

^You could try asking your building management if they have ever been approached by any other agents from True (other than the one you describe in your original post). If so, get the agent's number. In both buildings I've lived in here (BKK), the True shop told me I could have neither True internet nor True visions, and both times that turned out to be entirely false when dealing directly with the agent (who got both services hooked up within days). If your building doesn't have an alternative agent, try asking friends that live in nearby buildings if their building has an agent. They (the agents) are on commission and usually far better motivated than the staff in the True shop who don't appear to give a shit about anything.

Khoo Sai (คู่สาย) means telephone line.

Managed: Feral Hosting; Whatbox.
Dedicated: OVH - Kimsufi (you will need to be familiar with the Linux command line).
I believe Feral and Whatbox will move your old data over if you ask them. If an unmanaged dedi, you'll have to do it yourself using something like rsync.

What they mean is that there's no cable to that particular building, not that you can't ever receive True services through a cable in a condo building. I'm in a condo in BKK and receive True Visions through a cable. No DOCSIS though, internet is via ADSL.

There is no Duty on Computers.
Beware. There are reports from people on this forum of getting hammered up to 40% on imported laptops, particularly if it comes via DHL, Fedex etc rather than regular mail.
Here's just one: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/602534-import-fees-for-purchased-laptop/?p=5985556

You could just disable the WD CD ROM (or whatever it's showing up as in device manager). That's always solved any issues with their 'Smartware' for me.

Search this forum for TAN Telecom - 4th Floor MBK. They will replace it for a few hundred baht.

Edit: Sorry, totally missed your existing reference to jobsDB

Kat.ph domain was seized for a breach of TOS apparently. Not really a big deal. They just switched to another domain.

Edit: posted this while sumrit was also posting the same thing. Anyway, +1 for saynoto0870.

I would probably do it if I didn't have to walk into foodland, and I just pushed a button and a copied, genetically identical mango appeared. Isn't that a better analogy? We;d even solve world hunger while we were at it.
Precisely the point that copyright trolls who falsely attempt to conflate filesharing with 'theft' always fail to appreciate.

I would totally download a mango.

^Wow, excellent. Thanks for that, but aren't they going to require some kind of proof of being a student or something?
