Keep your eye on the upload speed and do not be afraid to complain as I said before I have always found them helpful and I did not have to pay until I was happy with the speed and reliability I just carried out speed check and got 1842 down/496 up which is about normal download from Bangkok

  2. TT&T's Maxnet Premier will be far superior over BTV.

Not always true TT&T use telephone cable and the length and qualitiy of the cable governs what speed you get not what they tell you this is why there is a lot of discrepancy on what people recommend also electrical interference can cause disconnections the only way is to try and see.

I tried to get Maxnet but after 2 weeks they could not get a connection and after 3 Months I am still waiting for my deposit back I use BTV at the moment I had big problems at first with disconnections but I must say BTV did try very hard to sort it out (sometimes I had 7 engineers working inside and outside my house) and whilst I still have a couple of disconnections every day it is much faster than TOT that I had in my last house and the service that I get from there engineers is much much better than I ever got from TT&T

  3. Hi guys, just bought a Buffalo WBMR-G54 Broadband modem router. Hard wiring it to my kids desktop and wi-fi to my laptop.

Instructions state that I should have my username and password ready from my adsl a/c when carrying out the wizard install. But I`m sure it`s just plug in and go with my TOT set up, which was installed for the kids when I was out the country on a dedicated line.

Anyhow, at the tail end of the wizard installation it tries to check the internet conxn but it says there isn`t one. Nor at any time does it ask me for username or pasword.

My laptop is picking up the signal from the wifi router just fine but there is no internet conxn. No internet conxn on the desktop either.

On the wifi modem router the power led is ok, the status led is flashing intermittently as it is meant to . The adsl led is steady as it`s meant to and the wlan led is steady as it`s meant to.

One thing, there is no led lit for the one of 4 lan ports that I plug into for the desktop conxn.

I`ve installed the software onto the desktop. should I be installing it onto my laptop instead? I`m not sure. At the end of the installation it tells me to plug in the device. But the instructions tell you to pre-wire everything. Confused a little by this.

I`m trying to give you as much info as poss. Sorry if it`s not enough

I`m no comp. whizz kid by any means as you probably guessed, but would like to try and get this up and runing myself before giving the guy in Chiang Rai Technocom the 800 Baht he wants to install it for me.

Don`t get me wrong, it`s a good shop and I`ll pay it. But it would be nice if, with your help, I can do it myself.

    Thanks in advance guys,

    Chang35baht.

I do not know your router but i think that you will need a user name and password from TOT I did when I had TOT it will be something like your full telephone number@whatever you are on ie. supercyber or cybergold and your original password given by TOT will be your full telephone number

It seems to be quite expensive 800B to connect it when I purchased me Netgear the shop owner set it up for me before I left the shop all I had to do was plug it in and tell my computer what the wireless password was (not the Internet connection password)

    Hope this is of help

  4. I think that I might have a problem with proving where I live for my first report. My GF rents the house that I stay in and the owner lives in Denmark I pay the rent to her sister all the utility bills are address to the owner but I pay them, are there any suggestions what I need to get to proof that I live here I have plenty of time before I need to report

Only Pattaya seem to be asking for this.

Have you a bank in Thailand? Ask them for a statement with your name and address on it.

How about a letter from someone important who may know you. Phu Yai Baan? Police?

Yes i have a couple of bank accounts I was also thinking about getting a telephone from TOT in my name if I can would that be acceptable to immigration as proof I do not no of anybody of importance in Pattaya

  5. Nationwide recently closed my flexaccount because they deemed I was not a resident in the UK. The reason: I use it solely in Thailand for about 10 months of the year. The first I knew about it was when an ATM refused me. I rang them but got no change in their decision.

Even though the account is funded from England and I have never had an overdraft.

I told them i was coming to LOS for long term on retirement and they said no problem

Quote from Nationwide's Flex Account Terms and Conditions

"Our FlexAccount is only available if you are aged 16 or over and live in the UK. You must be 18 or over to apply for an overdraft"

So be careful and keep some money somewhere else. Just out of interest what did they do with the money already in the account

  6. I went for my 1st retirement extension at the CM Immigration office. I used the US Consulate letter of 65,000baht monthly income as proof. They asked a copy of the passport, visa, departure card, and the 90 entry stamp which I brought with me. The officer apparently didn't like that I had my "O" visa and entry stamp on separate pages so he had me make another copy that included both of them on the same page. I was a bit surprised by a couple of the questions he asked me, such as, what I did in the US, my job title, and how much I made. Except for the additional copy, everything went smooth.

I got to the CM immigration office 8:25AM and was the 6th person to sign in. I am not sure where I got the idea that this would take less than an hour. I didn't get called until after 10:00AM and got out at about 11:15. I am happy that there were no surprises (this time).

I want to thank all those who were nice enough to help me in preparing for this.

    Vagabond

Got my extension on Monday in Pattaya the only question that I was asked well my GF was asked was how much my rent was

  7. It's either/or. Converting a tourist visa to a Non Imm is the TM86. Converting a visa exempt entry to a Non Imm is the TM87.

I think that the best idea would be to do both I worked on the principle that I rather take to much than not enough that is why I took a completed TM7 as well and plenty of copies of everything it worked well in my case now it freed off 800000B for me to use instead of getting 51B to the Pound Sterling

  8. I am not sure about that. I think the immigration officer did a short cut in the paper work.

Most reports are that both forms are needed and they give you a non-o and then extend that visa.

Just checked my passport 2 pages of stamps 1 stamp says non "O" Retirement dated 4 Dec to 3 Mar the next stamp says Retirement and something that looks like a number 9622/5 dated 3 Mar 2010 and yesterdays date on it on the next page big stamp titled NON-IMMIGRANT VISA and over it it is stamped USED 4 Dec 2008 I hope this helps to make it clear what the immigration officer did for me

  9. I went to Jomtien to get my Tourist Visa changed to a "O" visa with the intention off going for a retirement extension ASAP. I took a gamble and went with a completed TM7, TM86 and TM87 2 copies of my bank book with 800000B in it for three months and a letter from the bank confirming this, 2 copies of my passport, visa page and departure form Passport and bank book I gave him all the papers I had he gave me back the TM87 but asked me to copy the letter from the Bank Manager and asked me for 3900B I ended up with a number to collect my Passport on Monday it seems like I am allowed to stay till March 4 2010 and have to report before March 4 2009 or be fined 2000B and have to get a exit visa if I have to leave the country all done in about 20 minutes after a 30 minute wait I think that it means that I can start to use my 800000B straight away but I think that I will wait till Monday till I can see what I have got

  10. Yes you need both forms. The cost for the change of visa is 2000 baht not per form.

What they do is change your tourist visa to a non-o that can then be extended for 1 year. When you do that you will pay an additional 1900 baht for the extension. The form for an extension is a TM7. You will need all the same documents when you do the extension.

You can download all the forms here. Link: http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/ba...p?page=download

    Thanks for your quick reply

I don't have enough firm information about what the new requirements for an extension to support a child will be. The one thing that could be a problem from the preliminary translation that I have seen is that it is up to the immigration office how they apply this and the individuals cituation. I suspect some offices will want you to have sole custody of the child if you are not married to the mother of the child. This has been required by some immigration offices under the old rules.

It is up to you if you want to wait and see how it is applied to your particular situation.

Do I need to have both forms TM86 and TM87 filled in and 2000B for each form. I think that I will apply for a Retirement Extention as this seems more clear cut at the moment any other requirement for getting one

  12. I was diverted to UTP on Wednesday on Eva Air from Heathrow it took 30 minutes to get off the plane (747) because the steeps were being used on another plane at the time, going through immigration was quick no camera was used had to wait for 3 hours to get luggage we were third in line after an Israel and an Austrian flight in the end they unloaded our luggage outside beside the terminal in the dark which was a bit chaotic but at least I got here Eva Air are now flying into UTP using the same schedule as before the closure at BKK

  13. A friend wants to use his I-Mobile 625 as a modem in the battery compartment it says that it covers GSM 900/1800/1900 I tried to connect to the Internet it showed as a "G" connection where as mine connected on a "E" connection he is using D-Tac as a provider

  14. Thanks for all your help so far, I ended up with a single entry Tourist Visa (as I said in an earlier post) could somebody give me a program of dates to get an Retirement Extension ASAP I am due to arrive on the 26 November

As soon as you get here open a bank acc. if you do not have one and stick the 800,000 Baht in it. (Assuming you are using this method)

With at least 21 days remaining on your stay go to Immigration and take the letter from your bank showing the deposit. Apply for a change of Visa to a NON O. Around 3 or 4 weeks before this expires go back to Immigration and apply for a years extension for Retirement.

Depending on where you apply and who you see they may agree to do it there and then or they may want you to get a 30- day extension to enable the 800,000 to be in the bank for 3 months.

You really have to talk to them and see what they require from you.

Smile, say thank you and you will be OK.

It may be a good idea to pop along and have a chat with them to see what they want as soon as you get here.

Don't worry, you will have no problem. It Is just that they all work in a different way.

I already have 800000B in a bank in Thailand for more than 3 months but I will need to start to use it in February due to the Pound/Baht as I do not want to have to transfer any more money from England until it improves

  15. I signed up with this service on 15 Aug and up until last week have had excellent speed and service. On 4 Nov I lost internet service and after several calls to their customer service number I was reconnected on 6 Nov around 4:30pm. I didn't realize until after the technicians left that I had no speed at all. For the next 5 days after numerous calls and technicians telling me that the problem was in the "lines, still no speed. The next day after calling again I was told that the reason why I wasn't getting any speed was that the sites I was going to were international and not local (Thailand). I checked my speed with adslthailand website and it ranged from 170 to 562 for downland and 9 to 32 for upload. I'm suppose to get 2M download speed and was receiving this until last week. No one at their office can explain to me why my service was changed or decreased. My contact is for month to month and today is the last day of this month and I will cancel this service. Does anyone else have this service and experienced any similar problems? :o

I have had BTV for about 2 months now I had big problems at first but I could not fault their service although a little inexperienced they tried very hard to cure my problems including having 7 engineers at one time working inside on computer and also on the cables outside now I have very good speeds the only problem I have it disconnects quite often which I will try to get sorted when I get back to Thailand
