  1. I had my tunnels done in both hands whilst living in the UK. Neither operation worked. They redone my left hand and found no problem other than the damage was perminent due to all appearing normal. Just because they can operate, doesn't mean they can cure your problem. You'll only know about 1 year post op if it's worked. Good luck.

I had one wrist done in the UK 2 years ago although a lot better I still get some pain in the morning and my hand seems much weaker now than it did before I still think that it was worth doing

  2. The only thing that puts me down when I walk Pattaya streets: women with children on sidewalk asking for change. Isn't it sick? Shouldn't government take care of poor people, especially kids?

    Andrew.

I think that you will find that most of them are not Thai well that is what the G/F tells me she will never give them anything although she give to a lot of Thai beggars

  3. Air con will be the problem if it has a timer on it set to turn off when you are asleep LCD TV are quite low electricity users normally can depend on the quality of the TV also make sure all the windows and door are shut when air con on

While an oldfashioned Colour TV needs abt 50-60 Watts an LCD is abt 4 to 5 times that... Abt 230 Watts depends on the chosen backlight-power. Even more -not to be forgotten- are plasma-TV's!

So: LCD are NOT very low!

I think that you will find if the screen size is the same lcd will be lower I hate to think what a 46" CRT tv would take if they made one

  4. My significant other just came home with a giant LCD tv, which he is glued to every night. We also run the a/c while we sleep. Our electricity bill before the tv and a/c was free, then it crept up to 250 baht a month once we started using the a/c a few nights a week, and now it's 750! Our rent is only 3000 to begin with!

I have no idea how much electricity is a normal amount, but do you think that this is correct? Do LCD tvs use a lot or not?

I guess I could always go back to using the fan and looking out the window...

  5. Yes I have been scammed by a bar girl most of the time I knew it was going on but when it became to much we split and I went with her friend also a bar girl after being with my GF for 2 months I found out the she has been scammed by he friend as well and she has not spoken to her for 18 months I do not know if I am being scammed by my GF but if I am she is being very clever and I have not spotted it but what I do know that she as saved me a lot of money in other ways. We still go to her old bars and yes there are a lot of men being scammed but there are a few honest ladies in the bars as well just to add I was warned about the first lady by the Mama son and she had nothing bad to say about my GF of over 20 months

  6. This is the best news I've heard in a long time. Doomed to roam the world on a Nicaraguan passport!! WELL DONE ABHISIT!! :D:D:D:wai:

But it would be a big mistake to extradite him back to Thailand. Even if he did spend time in (a luxury) jail, he would soon be free to wreak havoc and spiteful vengeance and tear this country apart on his release. :P:o

Would be better to ban him forever. :D

Not if he was found guilty of treason he would not be free for a long time if still alive

  7. The previous Govt didnt have the balls to do anything about the yellows in contrast the Abasith Govt has shown the guts and backbone to deal with the reds and clean them out.He did make a mistake in trusting a ineffective police force at Pattaya but he has put that right now by leaving them on the sideline.

I do not think that he made a mistake I think he was between a rock and a hard place. If he declared a SOE to bring in the army for what at that time was a legitimate protest can you imagine what everybody would say, so he was left to trust the police which he now knows that he cannot it now will be interesting to see what he does with the police in the next few months

  8. An owner of a hotel can close it when ever he wants to and only allow special guess to occupy it, anybody that comes in uninvited are trespassing in most counties as soon as a door or window was broken it becomes a criminal offence of braking and entry

You are correct partially. It is civil tresspas if the owner has posted no trespass signs. It becomes crimal trespass if the owner has posted No Trespass signs and then a criminal offence occurs. In this case the resort was also being used by other paying guests and was open, hence no trespass occured.

I think that a hotel owner has the right to refuse anybody entry without any signage weather in use or not and yes it is a civil case and braking anybody property to gain entry is a criminal offence

  10. Hi all. This is a wonderful discussion about treating eczema. It's a bit old, though. Anyway, I would like to ask your suggestions/comments about eczema on kids? I have a 5-yr old who have eczema on his knees. I keep it moisturized and not give him tight clothes but still it causes terrible itchiness. I would like to ask for your help just before I go and check it with a doctor. Thanks.

Is this skin condition confirmed as eczema? This usually occurs behind the knee in the skin fold and not in front. Psoriasis is more likely to present in the area over the knee cap in front.

Any other areas: Behind ears, front of elbows?

How long has he/she had this skin condition? Since birth or later and, if later, what may have precipitated it?

    Change of environment, diet, soaps?

To find the cause or sensitizing agent would be most important to manage and control the condition. Unfortunately, a hot humid climate is just about worst and April is yet to come!

Suggest to get a reliable dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis. Do not buy any steroid preparations over the counter as there are several dangers with using these on kids. Steroid preparations intended for adults such as Dermovate or Betnovate may have local effects on the skin (causing thinning of the skin) or may lead to systemic absorption and side effects similar than those with oral treatment.

Newer preparations and especially those intended for pediatric use have a relatively low side effect profile but, as the treatment may need to continue for some time (intermittently for years perhaps), it is best to select the treatment with the least side effects.

There is no "miracle" cure out there but infants may "outgrow" the condition by becoming less sensitive to irritants as they grow older.

In the mean time try the "Sebamed" range of products (shampoo, shower gels and lotions) as they seem to be less irritant than other pedriatic preparations.

Don't use creams (water based) as it will dry out the skin even more but ointments as these are oil based and also provide a protective barrier.

    Good Luck!

Can you get Sebamed in Thailand easy I am in Pattaya and would like to try it on my baby

  11. the misses is 3 months pregnant, and we want to go and get a scan, wheres is the best place in Pattaya? Bangkok Pattaya springs to mind, but they always seem to charge to much, and give extra diagnosis that we dont need.

    thanks

You ask for the best place, in my opinion BkkPtt Hos. is the best place for this sort of things, they have a woman's centre there with 4 or 5 doctors specializing in woman's "stuff".

My misses is pregnant too, and we been checking & asking questions around and giving birth to our child will cost app. 40.000 bath on the 2 best hospitals in town including above mention one.

This is none of my business but why do you want to save money on such an important thing as having a baby, I will not for sure, and we now atend BkkPatt hospital regarding the pregnancy.

Banglamung is a public hospital so don't expect the staff to speak good English as they are trained in country whereas the private ones staff (esp. the doctors) are often trained in USA,UK & Aus and the likes.

    Good luck with the baby.

BPH cost 39900 baht for C-section 5 weeks ago got looked after well room has a sofa that they made up a bed for me at night the only extras that I had to pay for as far as the baby was concerned was for my food and drink they had a little class to show you how to look after and bath baby, clothes to leave the hospital and a lot of free goodies including food I was satisfied with what I got for my money

  12. Their 5% no claim bonus policy started last year, so this is the 1st year I enjoy it. We received a nice letter informing us of it when we renewed last year.

What the letter did not say is that the other side of the coin is an increase in premiums depending on how much you claimed the year before.

From what I know now the maximum penaly is a 25% premium increase (but the bonus seems to be limited to 5%). If there is no claim from my wife or daughter next year, I have no idea what the price will be... Their brochure doesn't mention this system whatsoever (and that pisses me off).

The problems you may have if you decide to change insurance is that you daughters conditions that she had this year may not not be covered by the new insurance company so you might just have to bite the bullet

Just one thing why cant you get your daughter on her own policy

  13. Me and my family have been insured with LMG Pacific Healthcare for few years. Policy renewal is due next month.

For me, they offer a 5% no claim bonus discount, as I have not been sick last year, this represents 536 THB.

My wife and daughter are on the same policy. My daughter has been sick several times last year, my wife not even once. For both of them the premium has been increased 10% because my daughter claimed benefits several times last year. This increase totals 2045 THB.

I guess this is covered by the terms and conditions which states "the Company reserves the right to adjust the insurance premium to reflect the risk and age of the covered person".

At first I was thinking this only meant that their premiums vary according to age, but I guess it could also cover the premium increase for covered persons who have been sicked previously...

I find this despicable, especially as they increased my wife premium even though she never claimed any benefit (she has never been sick in the few years she was insured).

Are other insurance companies practicing the same premium adjustments?

Is this the first time that you have claimed if so did they give you any no claims discount before or is the 5% to keep you sweet

Will the increase price go down by 10% +5% next year if you do not claim on your wife's policy the other thing to ask is the 10% the maximum increase or it could be any amount and be away of them getting you of their cover if you come to be to expensive ie. if you have a big claim to double the price next year so you do not renew your policy. Do you know how much your daughters claims were for last year if you do you will have to do the sums to see if it is worth paying the extra

  14. I have made many visa runs to Singapore in the past, so many I have lost count, but it's over 10. Being a Canadian, I have never had a problem: no request to show sufficient money, no request for ongoing ticket. However, I have been frustrated on more than one occasion by the embassy being closed, in spite of diligent research on the web... they close for Christian holidays, Muslim holidays, Hindu holidays, Singapore national holidays, Thai national holidays, and if a goat wanders into the compound.

I was not expecting any problems this time, and knew that the 60-day tourist visa would be free. They have now set up a waiting area under a tent, just to the right of the embassy building, with picnic tables and enough space for 30 or more people to fill out their application forms. However, there were exactly 2 people there when I arrived, and 2 more when I left. It seems that people are not rushing to visit Thailand.

I filled out my form, took it to the same Muslim lady at the window; she has worked there for as long as I have been going there. I recognized her, and I am sure she recognized me.

This time she asked to see my onward ticket. I said I had an open e-ticket with Air Canada, but she said that was not good enough. She said, "Because the visa is free, we are now requiring a real ticket with a confirmed date." I offerred to pay the SGD$50 fee, but she said no, they can't do that.

I asked her what I should do, and she said just fly back and you will get 30 days at the airport.

So I did that, and got the 30 days with no hassle, but the abortive trip cost almost 18,000 baht... 2 nights in a hotel, return air fare, meals, taxis, etc.

A bit pricey for 30 days, after which I will have to do something similar. If the "free" visa scheme is still in effect then, I will just fly out of Thailand, and then come back on the next flight; I won't wait around in a hotel, nor visit the embassy.

I have done the bus ride to Cambodia many times, and did one two weeks ago; hard on the bum, and a total waste of a day, but it only costs 2000 baht. But you only get 15 days now, and can only do that 3 times; I won't be doing any more of those.

I live in the Sukhumvit Soi 4 area; the restaurants here are mostly empty every night and the hotels have dropped their rates by 50%. Seems the "free" visa deal is not having much effect, and imposing conditions on it makes it worse. On the one hand, the government desperately wants tourists; on the other hand, the Immigration Dept seems to be making it more and more difficult.

But I thought that you needed a ticket for an onward journey for a 30 day Visa Exempt as well

  15. Buying a washing machine in HOME-PRO as part of a fitted kitchen......sales guy tells me that washing machines in Thailand do not have built-in water heaters/boilers, wash in cold only. I am not in Thailand at present, in Europe, but just off phone to HOME-PRO.

Is he correct.....seems odd, for example, whites will never wash properly in cold water. ANY INFO...THANKS.

There are a few hot washers for sale but Thais wash everything in cold water

  16. When buying LCD TV something the you have to take into account is the distance that you sit from the screen and the size of the screen a low resolution screen you will have to sit further away from the TV to not see the the screen braking up but you then lose the detail. There are so many things that can affect your viewing what suits one persons viewing will be bad for another persons viewing (ie. do you intend to sit straight in front of the TV are at an angle) I also think that to a certain degree you get what you pay for in the lower price range but you pay over the top for the improvement in the higher price range if that make any sense one last thing a good quality screen can make a bad reception bearable where a bad quality screen may be unwatchable

  17. However, if you own property in the UK and move back into it you are covered from the date you return (or as I read it, I suppose there is nothing to stop you renting something, as long as you have a permanant address), as long as you tell them you have returned to the UK for good.

I also suppose that there is nothing to stop you leaving again when you are better.

    Once again good luck Martin

I have since found this quoted from the CAB site http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/family...from_abroad.htm if correct it may help the older section that have trouble affording health insurance that becomes very expensive when you are over 65

Visitors who can receive NHS hospital treatment free of charge

You and your dependants are entitled to free NHS hospital treatment if your need for it arose during your visit to the UK. A medical opinion may be needed in order to decide if treatment should be provided free of charge. You have the right to free NHS hospital treatment if:-

    • you are a national of an European Economic Area (EEA) country, living in an EEA state or Switzerland, or a refugee or stateless person living in an EEA state or Switzerland, or you are a non-EEA national who lives in an EU state and pays national insurance contributions there
    • you normally live abroad, and are receiving a UK state pension, and have lived in the UK in the past for at least ten years
    • you have lived in the UK for at least ten years in the past, but now live in an EEA state, or in a non-EEA state with which the UK has a reciprocal agreement
    • you are a national, or a resident of certain non-EEA countries, with which the UK has a reciprocal agreement.

  18. Just for our information. Around 4 years ago I collapsed whilst working in India. I was lucky to have colleagues with me who immediately arranged for me to go to the local hospital. Following an X ray they found a large abscess in my right lung and prescribed anti biotic to reduce it in size and eventually cure the condition. To cut a long story short they did not work and my temperature went through the roof. I returned to Bangkok and my wife immediately took me to Bangkok hospital where they did the usual tests and of course an X ray. They confirmed the abscess and said that they would have to operate immediately or I may lose my lung. I was delirious at the time so my wife did most of the talking. They quoted a fee for the operation that was way beyond my means, so I decided to go back to England. The trip was not easy believe me but I had no choice. My sister took me to the GP who arranged admission to the local hospital. They again went through the tests and confirmed the ulcer. I was put in an isolation ward due to the nature of the disease and also the fact that I was living in Asia. They tested me for everything including SARS, HIV and many more. I was clear on all counts thank God. OK here is the sting. I stayed in hospital for 10 days hooked up to a drip and I was given large doses of strong anti biotic over the course of my stay. It was never mentioned in India or in Bangkok that I had double pneumonia that was caused by the abbcess.Hence the very high temperature. The anti biotic worked and I am now fit as a fiddle. Needless to say that I have lost my faith in the medical profession in Thailand, because I went from nearly losing my lung to a course of antibiotics. I was panic stricken at the thought of the first diagnosis. Go home and get it checked out by professionals that are not driven by the dollar.

    Cheers, Rick

Not so easy for some of the people living outside of the Europe Community a lot of people are not covered in the UK any more it seems like if you are out of the country for any length of time and do not have a residence in the UK you are not covered by the NHS even if you still pay UK taxes

  19. I know a farang who lives in Pattaya on US Social Security. He seems happy and gets along pretty well on a little more than 20,000 baht per month. He is a balloon chaser but no one minds since he is now about 70 years old.

whats a balloon chaser..excuse my ignorance just wondering ??????????

Somebody that looks for the bars that have balloons up which shows that there is a party there and normally free food so for the price of a drink they get feed as well a bottle of water is between 20 and 30 baht

  20. If they don't own a computer then what they need software for anyway. :o

    The original quote was

I suppose the copyright police made an inspection visit to Patters. I expect heavy pressure for a little while on the illegal software and DVD/music front due to the effort in the US Congress to cite Thailand for IP violations and the ongoing negotiations regaring the US/Thai FTA which are coming to a head.

As an aside, can't see why anyone bothers with this stuff anymore...can download it all free off the net and often better quality and more timely as well :D

You do not need a computer to watch or listen to DVDs/music wish you can get from Tukcom 4th floor not only software
