  1. You do not say where you live, but in Pattaya Rennet is available at most large supermarkets.Might take a bit of detective work, but you will find it or a Thai substitute. :)

Saw this post and will have to go do some detective work as well. Nothing like Finnish baked squeaky cheese!

  2. I recall that we did indeed have rain on St. Pat's day last...and indeed I got drunk and danced in it. What fun !

Last year we left for Koh Chang about this time and it rained the next day to clear up the smoke. We're not leaving this year so it will probably be murky until June.

  3. Of course they are out there, but you have to go look. My buddy and I bought twin sisters... identical bikes on miles and colors. His was 38000 baht and perfect with a tad over 5000 km on the clock. Mine had a leaky fork and several other problems so I talked the dealer down to 35000 in a week of waiting. 3 years down, I could not be happier after a tad of work. Great bike. Keep looking.

  4. I live pretty close to the shop so if it breaks I'll just go over there. For the price I think it's worth the risk, I'm sure they don't all break and if it lasts 6 months it's probably worth just buying a new one or trying out a whole new system and risking the boys in brown. I'd be interested in knowing what Yos says though.

Back on the road with the re-welded pipe. The welding shop checked all the other welds and thought they were fine. Looks like the pipe is done with a wire-feed welder and the metal on the failed joint just did not get hot enough for a good bond. Time will tell on the rest of the joints. I got an email reply from Yos and he basically said he hopes I can get it fixed. Brought the old stock pipe back home and the weight reduction with the new pipe is significant. Now if only it will stay together!

  5. I like the new pipe as well, I think the sound is better though agreed not much louder (apologies to whoever asked me about it before). One thing my mechanic noticed though is that it's now necessary to take some of the fairing off when doing an oil change.

withnail..... How is your pipe doing? Mine cracked today at one of the welds not far from the muffler. Dang. The Honda shop took it off and it's going to get re-brazed, but good welds should not crack. With all the other welds on the pipe, I expect it will crack again.

Seems fine. Have you contacted Faddybike? I seem to recall in the long thread on the cbr150forum one customer had a pipe crack (and I reckon this might be the new source of Faddybike's pipes as they used to charge a lot more). It could just be a small percentage of them fail and need to be replaced. There cerntainly weren't that many complaints I don't think.

Going to send Yos at Faddy an email today. But to mail it back and wait for it to come back is too much hassle when you can get it done by the next day locally.

  7. I'm looking for a ROAD BIKE shop, what are the best options?

Been to 2 shops so far that only do mountain bikes (Chaitawat and La Bike).

I live Hang Dong area and see someone recommending a place near the junction with Baan Tawai - does that shop do road bike bits? Also looking for any that sell cycle clothing.

Does Jacky Bike do road bikes/parts?

    Thanks

As posted earlier, Spin Bike carries road bikes and they are not far from you. They are on Canal Road just a hundred meters or so north of the Ratchapruek/Night Safari 4 way intersection, and on the east side of Canal Road. From that intersection if coming from Hang Dong, take the first U-Turn on Canal Road and you will see the shop on your left. I would put them on your list along with Jacky Bike and the others mentioned. Things are better in Chiang Mai for bikers now than they were 5 years ago, but you still need to shop around to get what you need.

  8. Honestly I thought it was an easy question. I just want to know, because i put the wrong coolant into an SUV once, and it cost a lot to flush it and start over.

Me too! I just let the Honda shop deal with it. Am pretty sure they just mix 50% antifreeze with 50% water. It's been a long time since my CBR-150 got close to freezing up.

  9. There is a shop behind Wat Pra SING where the road turn to a Y you hold right and in about 50m you se a antenna Tower thats Ham shop 1 and next to that you have the component shop not so much to look at but if you know what you want then you will be satisfied.

Then you have Kitty Electronics down in santi Tam on left side goig on merrim road on right the university just after the traffic light

Thanks for those suggestions. I'll go and check them out this coming week. I've tried to find Kitty Electronics before but was not in the area you mention.

  10. i was just wondering what modifications other cbr drivers have done to help improve performance and handling, and also a good mechanic in chiang mai who can modify the bike. thanks

James1..... Lots of posts discussing this topic so start from the first one and work your way up. A lot depends on what type of rider and what type of gearhead you are. I have friends that work on their bikes 90% of the time and ride it 10. Others ride it 100% and let others do the work.

Obvious things to do are get rid of the IRC tires for something better, replace the constricting down pipe with a bigger unit, better bulbs in the headlights, and an adjustable rear shock. I ride the mountains a lot so I leaned a few jet sizes. Others go richer for riding faster in the low lands.

Great seeing all the CBR-150's out on the Toy Ride in Chiang Mai yesterday. Even got to a little formation riding with girl rider on a nice blue 150 but wasn't able to talk to her. Anybody else on the forum there besides Mark and I?

  11. I use ITunes regularly, and noticed yesterday that most stations now have an announcement that all AOL, Yahoo, and CBS streams have to be shut down for out-of-the-USA listeners. My favorite oldies station is one of these. Luckily, I've found a shopcast station that is just as good. Just wondering if others have noticed this scenario going on.

  12. Anders,

Is the noise constant or does it seem to change with the picture on the UBC channel you are watching?

The reason I ask this is that our UBC control box has a terrible audio signal-to-noise ratio. I have to have my UBC box set to full volume, and then I control the volume with the TV or home theater amp. If I turn the UBC box volume down to even 70 percent, the buzz from the box is horrible. It is simply noise from the control box circuitry escaping into the audio lines caused by a poor design.

  13. Boy, the thread has been quiet... everybody must be out riding before the hot season sets in.

Got the new downpipe put in. Fit like a glove, and there is a noticeable improvement in mid-range power up to 120 kmh. About 5 % louder if that. Kept the original muffler which is in good shape.
