How about medical services, especially for those folks age 60 up? Insurance, too?
Mac
The relevant case in not 60 or up, but 55 and up. That's the age when Medicaid asset recovery kicks in. One is better off purchasing coverage on the exchanges in the gulf between then and Medicare at 65, or continuing with exchange subsidized insurance if that option is unavailable.
In States that reformed it under the Affordable Care Act, and in cases where the person is younger than 55, the best option is to have Medicaid. There is an income test, but no asset test in such States and it is 'free.'
The 55 to 65 gap between Medicaid and Medicare is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.
Edit: Paying for medical care yourself in the US should not be attempted unless you are incredibly wealthy.
Doesn't the Affordable Care Act take care of that 55-65 age gap? Have friends that have it and the rates, at least in one state, sounded fair.

Had the same problem with our Mitsubishi pump just a few months after installation. Went to the local pump shop and they sold me a replacement (made by Four Star if I recall) that had contacts about double the area of the original part. No problems for four years after that.

Storm
in Chiang Mai
What happened to the tmd radar site? Latest date is january with No Data splashed across the map.
You would think that air traffic control would want to provide information on these active thunderstorm cells. This storm is quite powerful. Perhaps they are just not making the information public for some reason.

Sustained winds now for ten minutes, but not quite hurricane-like yet. Impressive storm.

Tomorrow the boy in the video will stop a hundred meters before the same checkpoint, take the helmet out of his basket and put it on before proceeding past the checkpoint. Sorry for being cynical, but I see riders in CM all the time stopping before a check point to put on their helmets. Safety is not taught in Thailand, and the only reason to wear a helmet is to avoid a fine.

hmmmmmmm ..... notice how thai companies are all apologetic and sorry once social media get hold of their bad behavior.
Quite surprising to see the kinds of things that CEO posts on his FB page. Certainly nothing about top cabin customer service or safety.

They tried this back around 2007 and for a few months it was great. Slowly people started reverting back to Songtaews and then the buses just stopped rolling on any kind of schedule. Hopefully this time around it will work out.

^ that's highly likely! they do enjoy the wet . . . when it rains heavily around us, the rice fields & ditches are a frog sound recordist's heaven. When it's dry . . . not a peep!
found one in hiding in a shoe once . . lucky i checked before sticking my foot in it . . .
Found them in my biking shoes dozens of times when we lived right in front of a rice field. The shoes attract mosquitoes and the the frogs feel safe in there having a nice meal! Only put them once with a frog in the toe once.

Some enforcement of existing laws, rather than none, would provide more benefits than additional laws which will be forgotten as soon as they are written.

Honey Bees like that are wonderful. Watch out for an invasion of Tiger Hornets however as they are aggressive and potentially lethal. My wife spent two nights in the hospital after a sting, and an acquaintance died from a sting. Something you need to be aware of living in Thailand.

PM Prayut seems to be getting some good work done as far as rooting out corruption(not replacing it as my THai wife says) which to me is much more welcome than the foolish situation of the so called democratic forces that stalled all economic activity in BKK for six months. Now if he would sort out the immigration Dept.and introduce some internationally compatible standards I would support him unequivocally(eg,a proper permanent resident status which falls in line with international standards,no work permit necessary and land ownership rights etc.)
You might want to listen more to what your wife says. The coup was nothing more than a change of color as to how the corruption dollars flow.

"The PM said the government would invite legal specialists from Germany and France to share experiences about drafting their charters and how they manage after a coup. He spoke after a meeting of the five junta-appointed agencies."
Interesting choice of countries that have had coup experience.

Had a French guy's German Shepard jump over his gate and attack my dog, causing some minor tendon damage. When he arrived back home, I went over to talk to him and tried to fight me. I left, as I could see he was irrational. Went back the next morning but he was still aggressive, saying he didn't care what happened to my dog. I left after we completed calling each other <deleted>.
Talking to a local policeman about it a few days later, he gave me a pepper spray can and told me to spray him if it happens again, and then call him. Scary thing is that I have found out the guy owns a gun, and last week he followed me out into the rice field in his truck when I was walking the dog. Have this funny feeling he was planning on "offing" me that evening, as when I walked by his house on the way to the rice field his two German Shepaeds were quite vocal. I would suggest to not confront the guy directly, but just let it pass. But..... Get your cop friends to get you some pepper spray so he can't spit in your face again!

Believe it or not, someone has to take control of Thailand, for the sake of the Thais.
Myself, I am not afraid of the so-called Chinese boogey man.
Thailand should be though, as they are hitching themselves to a train wreck.

Is that a misprint on the number of soldiers? Sure it was in the middle of red territory, but 2000 seems a bit over the top.

I connect the earphone output of my Mac Mini to a Pioneer audio system's line input. (In a prior house, that output actually went to two amplifier systems.) You can find the 1/8 inch jack to RCA phono plugs adapter cable at Amorn Electronics. Works great, and there would be plenty of power to drive Bose outdoor speakers or you can use the surround speakers that come with the Pioneer.

Corruption and the steering of money is at the root of most of Thailand's problems.

Thailand had the lowest ICAO score of any ASEAN country with only 21 out of 100 areas reviewed by auditors getting a passing grade. This not something that will be fixed in 30 days.

Been stopped three times in the last few months on the motorcycle, and twice they wanted to see the Green Book, which I luckily had with me along with a Thai license. Not sure why the increased pressure but getting a Thai driver's license would be a good idea along with carrying the appropriate documents.

So anybody think this could be more like the truth?
A massage from Koh Tao Burmese community
First of all, Thanks a million to CSI LA and fellow Thai friends for standing up for the Justice.
Some Burmese people in Koh Tao whispered that the murder was not happened on the beach, it was happened in the guest house where British couple were staying.
According to them, Nomsod and his fellow gangsters have harassed and molested the British girl in AC Bar and got fight with the girl, when the British girl has gone back to the guest house after fight, they followed and killed the boyfriend, raped the girl and killed her too. Altogether 5 people, Nomsod and 4 Thai Gangsters (one of them was rumored as a Thai policeman) who worked for his father were involved in the murder. After the murder, they carried the bodies to the beach which is 50 meters away from the guest house, staged as a couple were having sex on the beach and killed on the beach.
Two Burmese boys accused were also workers of one of Nomsod's father's businesses on the island, and they were playing a guitar on the beach when Nomsod and his gangsters carrying bodies, and Burmese workers were also asked to helped them carry the bodies too. Two Burmese have to do it because they scared of Nomsod and his gang and his father too. Which mean their DNA can be found on the bodies too. Which make them a perfect scapegoats.
The whole Koh Tao community knows about what really happened that night but everybody were scared of Nomsod's family and their gangsters and also the police thus nobody dare to speak out, Koh Tao Burmese were saying its not a secret that Nomsod family is making millions of bath for Thai police every month from many different illegal businesses on the island, and this case too, there was also a rumor that every Thai policeman involved in this case were already bribed handsomely by the Nomsod family.
The whole point of a message is to inform the Scotland Yard Police to focus on Nomsad and his thugs, AC Bar, Guest House, Sperm DNA inside the British Girl's womb and find a match. Not to trust on the 'murdered on the beach' fairy tale and tempered evidences and CCTVs on the whole island that are under the Nomsod's family influence.
Where did this appear? Is there a link? Would be good to post that as the case moves toward trial. Thailand still has a chance to do the right thing.
