Didn't realize you could do tandem kite surfing. Surely there weren't two separate people flying up to the roof?
-edit: After a quick search, tandem kite surfing is common...

An astute, well written article. Let's see if the writer avoids imprisonment or assassination.
He even used the "dictator" word. Likely some retraining needed as he doesn't understand, yet.

Sounds like you are in business but check out SuperDuper. Much better than Time Machine as you can make a bootable back up. I lost a disk drive on a MacBook a few years ago and booted a backup copy on another machine and had all my desktop items and files available in minutes. After replacing the hard drive, it was easy to just drag the back up over.

HC.... That is a thorough post. My wife joined me for a while when I was working in the USA last year and she pointed out that meats and seafood were cheaper in the markets there than in Thailand. Plus, the seafood tasted better, likely as it was not preserved with nasty stuff. Vegetables and fruits are definitely more expensive in the USA, about 3-4 times what they are in LOS. Most off the shelf items in the grocery stores were cheaper. Medical care is the big hitter in the USA, but if you can avoid that, it is indeed cheaper in the USA these days if you can find inexpensive housing.

One thing you would never see here is a report on how government officials acquired their wealth. You can find news stories from abroad poking on the outsides but a reporter in Thailand would quickly find themselves in an uncomfortable position if they tried to add any meat to a story. Corruption and the steering of money is at the root of the current problems.

Only thing that has worked for us is spraying Fipronil on the grass where the dog hangs out. You can buy it at a farm chemical supply store but make sure you get clear directions on dilution rates as you do have to be careful with it. Fipronil is the active ingredient in Frontline, but our dogs get sick when taking Frontline. Using its active ingredient at the source of the ticks makes more sense than injecting a dog with poison. One spray application lasts three months and we normally do not see a single tick a few days after spraying until the full three months are up.

The 269 are mentioned in this New York Times article, and it points out the lopsided nature of things later into it.....

They are Eastern Cattle and Little Egrets and they are after insects, not kernels. But nice video
I thought so too, but after looking at over two hours of video, I could not see a single insect moving. I will take your word for it though!

Set my camera up in the field a few weeks ago as the Cow Egrets were coming in to glean rice kernels from burnt straw. Change settings to HD if you like.....

We considered the solar chimney concept when we were building a house, but mold mitigation in the earth tubes would be a tough obstacle in humid Thailand. Successful implementations have only occurred in hot and dry countries from what I could determine.

Jack... That is one outstanding photo!

Another chain maintenance option is to use the orange spray bottle of "Multi-purpose lubricant" which is about 80 baht a can at Makro. It seems to be kerosene-based and I have had good results with it. Here is what I do before every ride:
-Wipe the chain down well with a rag.
-Spray on the lubricant liberally.
-Wipe off all the excess.
-Go ride.
The stuff is thin so it penetrates the links, and there is no waxy or oily build up. Seems all the commercial lubricants build up a sludge on your bully pulleys. With the spray lubricant, you never have that problem and the chain and cassettes last longer.

Looks like there are some outdated links out there. Here is one that worked with a Mac using Firefox with no issues. The website gives a confirmation and I also received an immediate email confirmation.

I am wondering if Thailand is the only country in the world that has banned these cameras. Perhaps North Korea beat them to it?

What Thailand needs is a ban on bans.

It's that time of year again. Appears the system requirements have not changed much, and the website stalls out when trying to initiate an individual account using the Mac "Develop" work around. Arrgghhhh.

Went to a festival recently and they had two bands playing on stages about 40 feet apart. Pure distortion and both bands were turning up their volume to be heard. Can't see how anyone could enjoy it. Still though, I think sound trucks are the worst causing all the noise and a traffic hazard at the same time. Quiet is not a commodity in Thailand!

Anybody have a file of the Chiang Mai specific TM-47 they can post? The links on the pinned thread are not working and the Chiang Mai Immigration website appears down.

Been out of the house rental market in Chiang Mai and have spent a few days looking at decent houses that are way over priced or are located in awful areas. We used to be able to find a decent house in a nice area between 8000-12000 baht but the usual haunts don't have anything. Anybody have suggestions on Moo Banns that have some nice houses at a decent value, or has the pricing schema outpaced the renters? Any area not too far south works.

Only the postal carriers know where mail goes.
And certain officials at the lowest level if administration will find the houses in their area, e.g. PEA (electricity), waterworks (in the village) etc.
Here in the village you pay your electricity and waterbill cash at the garden gate
And most houses have no house number displayed!!!
A colossal task for Google left to do
Not much street view here either! When we built our place here in the sticks, we had to get our address from the Puu Yai Bann who basically conjured it up on the spot, giving us the choice of a few different numbers. We picked one and then went to the post office to tell them where we lived as I was expecting some mail. We live more than a kilometer from our nearest neighbor but a postal carrier showed up a week later coming down our muddy drive with the package. Mail delivery here has been 100% since!

This was a pretty good post years ago. Through in a line for the road or soi and it would be fairly complete. Regarding a decoding map, no way! Only the postal carriers know where mail goes.

Something is amiss for sure. This definitely a story that keeps one "hanging!"
