  1. Deserted.... I've had three frames painted by automotive paint shops around Chiang Mai. Cost has been around a 1000 baht each time. Last one was metal flake pearl as they were doing a car with that at the same time and it is beautiful. I've sanded and prepped them ( no primer) each time. Ask around for a car paint shop and pay them a visit with a Thai speaker and you might be surprised at the results. The shops I have used seemed to really enjoy a different kind of project, and the finishes have held up fine.

  2. There was a story in the Bangkok Post stating that the police chief has found no evidence of death threats toward Paween. Wow... Big surprise there. Thailand still is incapable of doing the right thing even on a major human rights issue as this one. One can only hope that Paween can remain safe in Australia.

edit: But wait, there's more! The government can charge Paween with defamation. That will surely fix death threats, human trafficking, and corruption in the government.

  3. Junta Critic Feared ‘Disappeared’

    https://www.hrw.org/news/2015/12/11/thailand-junta-critic-feared-disappeared

"Thai authorities should immediately disclose the whereabouts of Thanakorn Siripaiboon, a critic of Thailand’s junta who has reportedly been held in secret military custody since December 8, 2015, Human Rights Watch said today."

Now the government is going after a publisher for defamation about that particular story. To copy another poster....."Thailand: North Korea but with better beaches!"

  4. Head out of town crossing Narrawat bridge in CM and there are several shops on that road. Best one is (or at least used to be) about a mile down or so. The engines looked like they had just been manufactured. I doubt they will have proper documents though, although they will likely claim that. Those are classic bikes and would make a fun project.

  5. northernjohn: Did you listen to his talk? I was there and heard every word spoken by the highly-intelligent well-experienced foreign service career officer. He was positive, diplomatic and respectful of the Thai people and government. Some ideals should not be compromised and thank goodness he did not compromise them.

Dog 1, that is very well said. If a Thai understood his speech, they would respect his words and understand. The fact that there are coordinated protests now shows that the junta is leading a propaganda event. Nothing better than generating a common enemy.

  6. Loose connection is a suspect for sure, but also look for arcing to ground behind or under the breaker. An insect or jinjok could start the corona which would leave the wire scorched like that. 240 volts can support an arc for quite a while as we witnessed with an unterminated extension cord burning up years ago. It was outside and we saw it arc for almost five minutes before the wires melted together and the breaker tripped.

  7. A final update: El Capitan is good and the upgrade was an easy 80 minutes! Unlike Yosemite where every application I opened would have the spinning rainbow wheel, El Capitan is fast. I had more crashes with Yosemite in that six months than I had in the prior nine years with all the prior OS versions. Looks like I am back to a happy Apple experience again. Gods Yosemite was awful.

  8. This has been a Thai "initiative" for two decades. Any promises or "urgings" are merely Thai flatulence.

I saw it for a decade and remember five public health employees coming through the neighborhood once talking about dengue and standing water. Did not see a single neighbor dump any water bowls that were full of water. The Mai Pen Rai runs deep in Thailand.

  9. Upper Michigan!!??? Have you rejoined the local militia yet? wink.png

Seriously, I got several good friends who live in Michigan and they love it...but too cold for me...I'm a warm weather boy.

Like most folks here, I think the Michigan militia stuff is one of those media generated things. Never heard of them, never met any, and likely never will. Most people in Michigan are the type that would stop to help you no matter what is going on. Exceptional traits. Here in Upper Michigan, I have no doubt that if I break down, the first car coming by will stop to help. But.... it might be a while as the roads are deserted at some times.
