  1. One thing that has always bothered me is all the cockpit videos taken by Thai Airways flight deck crew and posted on YouTube and other social media. To me it seems a violation of the "sterile cockpit" rule (Google it) and that practice is not aligned with focusing on safety and flying the aircraft. Pure distraction in the cockpit, and only good to make one look glamorous in some way.

  2. VIP... Tell your friend to look at what he has done over his life and plan to do that here, or at least see if you can. Could be a deal breaker if you can't, but lots of hobbies are actually more fun here than back in the west. If you are bored back home, you will likely be a lot more so here.

  3. 2711...... The Thai charges will likely be a small percentage of the total bank "take". US banks will charge you extra for a foreign transaction, but at least now they are legally required to show that on your statement rather than hiding it like they did in the past. Just do a withdrawal and see what the fees are. You won't be sweating the difference between 150 and 180 baht!

  4. p-gas... You should consider jetting your own well with the method I posted earlier. Drill down with 2 inch pipe and when you are done, drop in a prepared 1 inch pipe with a 1 meter long, 2 inch diameter spriral-slotted sand filter you can get from Home Mart. Once the the two inch bore is filled in, you won't be affected by the rainy season. I filled our bores with gravel first, then clay with a concrete top cap at the top. Water was the same all year long.

  5. Phitsanulok weather radar is showing some big buildups just west of Lamphun. Anyone know why the Lamphun weather radar has been showing "No Data" since January?

  6. Wunderground has a promising forecast as well. The wind over the last two days sure has done a glorious job of clearing the air and it has been nice to open up the doors and windows.

  7. Your cross ram inverter on your power pole connection is either loose or has been coroded. Has there been a lot of wind or loud noises in your area?

I've heard the recent solar flares have affected a lot of circular saw flux capacitors causing them to run backwards!

Seriously, the OP does have his blade on backwards. It should have the rotation and teeth toward the stock being cut, which means that the teeth are coming up on forward part of the saw.

  8. The only laws that are enforced in Thailand are those related to immigration and one other law. Even the PM said last week that burning is part of Thai culture. Nothing will ever change with the pollution levels in Northern Thailand during the dry season as burning is ingrained into practice. Corn fields, rice fields, garbage, agricultural clearing, roadside weeds, mountain sides, leaves, ... it doesn't matter as authorities will never fine anyone for setting any kind of fire.

  9. Not sure we need a duplicate topic, but it all looks pretty normal on Flightradar24.com , and http://www.chiangmaiairportonline.com/flight-status-arrivals-departures/

And that's morning hours, which are toughest.

So unless something crazy happens it looks likely that you'll be alright.

Also.. Airlines like (Thai) Air Asia would have a better chance to make it to Chiang Mai, as the pilots fly into this airport all the time. They'll know it's the runway lights they're looking at as they know the lay of the land. In past years we've seen that flights from other countries have a lot harder time figuring it out. (Flights direct from Malaysia or China with pilots who don't fly into here several times weekly.)

Or low cost carriers like Air Asia have more pressure to complete the leg.

  10. In Thailand, it always prudent to build a fence or a wall directly over the chanote markers as soon as you buy property. We luckily did that as we found out a neighbor was planning on putting a road right on the property line, taking a meter or two of our property. Once the fence was there, he could only dump dirt on his side, but we did have to dig out all of our chanote markers. You have to protect your interests in this country.

  11. They know about the problem.

    They know what causes it.

    They know where it's caused.

    They know who's causing it.

    They don't do anything. Why?

Thai friend told me that the problem is due to the organization of the government. Police report to a commander in Bangkok, and not to the local governor. So the police are left without orders and the local governor can not influence them much. The forestry department apparently can not make arrests either as two weeks ago I saw fires within sight of a manned forestry checkpoint. So far in Thailand, no one in any kind of authority cares about this problem that is now affecting around 5 million people. It has been like this for the decade I have been here and there is nothing happening to change it. No one in authority cares about the problem.
