  1. In the past I have found that Thai Air will allow several kilos over the 20KG limit on economy domestic flights without raising any questions (as recently as Easter for example). I will be flying in later this month with the family and will need to take a domestic connection to the NE. We have a 30KG allowance each on our international flight and I am wondering how much it is prudent to leave with my sister-in-law in Bangkok and how much weight to leave in the hold bags. Has anybody had any recent experience? Unfortunately my Thai Orchid silver card recently expired (10kg extra).

Get to the airport before check-in opens and try to be first in the queue. I find that if you can check in as early as possible, most airlines will let extra KG slide, within reason. The closer you get to the close of check-in the more strict the airlines are

  2. My first visit was 5 days in bk and then 10 days in pattaya.me and a mate went and after 3 days in bk we headed for patta and gave our 3,500 baht per nigh hotel up.Bangkok felt like a shiiiithole and i have never in all my life had people try to rip me off.Very humid, huge pollution and was also very wet too with flooding. My idea was to come to thailand to think about retirement and then go to a couple of places in europe to check them out. After going to Pattaya and saw some good and bad i will never ever live or visit bk again. The place just haunts me and i sensed it didnt seem real, felt like i was in a play and people were acting.

My first visit was 3 weeks in total, 4 days in BKK, 3 days in Pattaya, 3 days in Trang, 4 days in Nakhon Phanom then 7 more days in BKK.

Loved BKK, thought it was the most amazing city in the world (Still do), hated Pattaya (Still do, biggest shit-hole I've ever seen), Not sure about Trang, loved Nakhon Phanom, (Have to, the wifes family come from there).

  3. I got into the internet in 1999 and used it to find loads of free porn, now I use it to gather info, book holidays, download music and keep up to date with things but yes I could live without it, although I would miss Yahoo the most, excellent search engine.

I changed my provider 2 years ago and was without the internet for 3 months, I got by, justwatched more T.V

  4. Why don't they just introduce ultra-efficient city cars... for... the city?

If they made a low-displacement turbocharged compact car without the insane import taxes people would line up at the dealerships to get them. Besides, who needs a 3.5L V6 in a place where a car's average speed during all of its use is probably not more than 30km/h?

If Ford sell their new Fiesta diesel in Thailand next year, people will be queueing around the block for them

  5. My wife ruturned to Thailand for a 4 week holiday in February after living in the UK for 18 months and attempted to enter Thailand on her Thai passport, which is current, and was sent away and told to fill out an immigration card before she could enter Thailand, thought it was wrong but I didn't want to argue incase they refused entry to me and our son.

All Thai passport holders need to fill in an arrivals card, as lop says.

Usually, you fill in the arrivals card which was stapled into your passport when you departed, but if she had lost that one, or had a new Thai passport issued in London, then she would have had to have filled in a new arrivals card.

Thanks for clearing that up, thank god I didn't make a scene.

happy to help. Sounds like your son is eligible for a Thai PP as well....

Yeah, we are heading down to London next month to get his Passport and birth certificate.

  6. But we enjoy it. :D:D

And who are we to take away one of your very few pleasures in life i guess? :D

At least the sweaties are well balanced - chips on both their shoulders and not just about footie.

Our last colony but I would be glad to see the back of it! :o

Not sure if we want rid of you lot Prakanong, getting more involved with the EU is not my idea of fun and lots of folks up here are thinking the same, The SNP want to take us into the Euro.

  7. I don't think so. Generally Thais are so soft when they speak. Only my husband raises his voice and I must remind him to reduce volume :o

Then you haven't heard my wife and her family talking. It seems they can only shout when talking.

  8. At the turn of the last Century, a Fitness Pioneer said, that every able - bodied man, should be able to -

Push his straightened body from the floor and back at least 50 times. ( press ups).

Lower himself between two parallel bars at least 25 times. (dips).

Pull himself up on an overhead bar until the bar is clear of his chin, at least 10 - 15 times. (pull ups).

    Run at top speed.

Jump obstacles, equal to waist in height, with ease.

    Swim a mile.

Carry another human being, of comparable size, piggy back fashion, over distance.

Now, these are minimum requirments. If you are able to complete the exercises above, for the specified count, in perfect form, then you should have no difficulty with most, if not all, physical challenges that life may throw at you.

Get this. In the modern world 95% of men, are so far gone, they can't even do 5 press ups, some not a single press up. An embarssment to Mothernature. I wouldn't want a guy like that in my corner if I needed help.

So Thaivisa guys, let's have it........................

Not sure about all the rest but I can swim 3 miles no problem and I can walk 5 miles no problem, the rest? Not a hope in hel_l

  9. JOCK,

I think its the opposite now,the england fans expect to lose against the worlds best.We expect to beat the also rans scotland though.

I can't wait for the home internationals to start again, although if we beat England what cars will the English vandalise? there aren't any Scottish makes.

The problem with England fans is that they take themselves far to seriously.

    Home Internationals?

    Who wants those back?

Same as Rangers and Celtic wanting in to the EPL to share the wealth - its never ever going to happen - stay in that shitty league boy's where the standard of play for the vast majority is Conference Leage level with wages to match

I miss living in Scotland and laughing at the sweaties - it was like taking sweeties from a bairn while earning plenty

My point exactly Prakanong and thanks for proving it.

  10. JOCK,

I bet you also expected to beat Croatia, and is that the same Scotland that only just failed to qualify with France & Italy in our group?

  12. Maybe they were taking the piss? :o:D

If he was in Glasgow or Edinburgh maybe :D:D

LMFAO, I love listening to England fans, with their attitude that they have a god given right right to win everything. When are they going to accept that just like Scotland they are sh-it, infact with all the good players they have had over the years they should be ashamed at the way they have performed but they the FA has to take most of the blame with the managers that they have appointed over the years.

Where is that written then ??? We enter competitions expecting the win....that's the idea right ? Just being there making up the numbers is no use to us

Exactly - at least we want to win - the sweaties have much lower ambition of just wanting to be there.

The best sweaties leave to get on in their careers - there is nowhere to go in Scotland

    LMFAO

I didn't say it was written anywhere. I'm talking from experience of listening to some of my friends who are English.

You say you enter competitions expecting to win?

How many have you won (Apart from 66)?

I was commenting on the fact that England fans can't seem to accept that they aren't good enough to win tournaments just like us Scots.

  16. QUOTE (Brigante7 @ 2008-06-06 07:47:38)

As somebody who's family has been making and selling ice cream in "Sunny Scotland" for the last 90 years, I can confirm that HD, B&J and all the other big named ice creams are poorly made, full of crap and not fit to be called ice cream.

When people buy HD or B&J all they are paying for is the name and fancy packaging.

    I agree,

Now, where can we buy your family ice cream in Thailand?

hee hee !! exactly the point . I wonder if Brigante's 'sunny scotland' cornflour ice cream ( ?? ) makes as much profit as HD and B&J , BR , Swensons etc etc :o

    400% profit margin, can't complain.

  17. Bureaucrats warned on Euro 2008 gambling; public buys football postcards

BANGKOK: -- As the Euro 2008 football spectacular kicks off Saturday in Switzerland, Thai government officials are being warned not to bet on the football tournament -- football being a national passion -- while members of the public queued to buy from post offices nationwide intending to win prizes.

Phichit governor Preecha Ruangchan, in Thailand's north, said both legal and disciplinary action would be taken against government officials who place bets or otherwise get involved in Euro 2008.

Mr. Preecha said police in the province would regularly inspect hostels and rented houses with an aim to suppress betting among youths.

In the southern district of Hat Yai, near the border with Malaysia, a special police task force has been set up with an objective to wipe out Euro 2008 bookmakers and betters, especially at malls, entertainment venues and internet stores.

Many Phichit residents were seen early Saturday lined up at the post office to buy post cards to join a kind of lottery to predict which of the 16 participating teams in the 23-day football tournament would win the prestigious cup, so that they too could also win prizes.

Phichit postal authorities anticipate sales of some 100,000 post cards, while while the Chiang Rai post ofice predicts that it will sell 1.8 million post cards.

How are police going to regulary inspect rented houses?

As much as I would love to set up in Thailand, I doubt it would taste the same, different milk, butter and everything else, also we only make vanilla not any flavours.
