Thank you very much. So, I'll keep my Non-O visa. Thanks again, have a nice day.

I'm guessing you know you could have extended your 90 Day Multiple Entry Non-Immigrant  O for 12 months...Y/N?  That is providing you have the financial assets to qualify...

What about 90 day reports and etc. Also a re-entry permit for the 2nd year.

My 90 day reports here in Ubon have been working just fine since I returned with an Non-Imm. O-A 2 years ago. Normally, without the border closures, one would only have to do a border run to activate the 2nd year (which I actually did last October) This year I simply did a regular extension with insurance from LMG for about the cost of a border run if one spent one night in a neighboring country.  Also one can purchase a re-entry permit at the airport just before leaving the country - much easier than traveling to an Immigration Office to do it...even better than doing it when you apply for your extension.  But then, that's just me - Your Mileage May Vary.

  3. Thailand is going to start letting the Chinese and other low contagious countries citizens back in starting this week. I wonder if you can fly to China, New Zealand or Taiwan and then continue on to Thailand with lower requirements (regardless of your passport)?  And no, I don't know the answer - just thinking out loud... Being former military, I've spent a year and more at times away from my home and family, yet we survived.

Well I started to look on Lazada and they have hisense tvs but none that match the model I want. I'm having a hard time comparing the features on the models that they do have here as I'm not very technical plus much of the marketing material is in Thai language graphic files that can't be auto translated. Which is why I posted here hoping some people with expert knowledge on tvs could advise.

You can take a picture with a smartphone's camera and import or just scan with the Google Translate app available for iPhone and Android. Not always 100% but in many cases will be...  Good hunting! Also they don't exactly sell the same model sets here as they do in the USA or even Europe for that matter.  Note: TCL makes Toshiba TVs and other brands now (research needed). Also my 3 year old 55 inch TCL had LEDs go out on me - dark 6" wide strip down the middle of the screen, may not ever happen to you...just sayin'.

While I love your comment and I find it mostly accurate, you are wrong in the sense that you can't have fun here anymore. I would argue that Thailand has become more fun than ever before. I traveled down to Bangla Road last weekend for a bit of mischief. OMG...I've never had so much fun in my entire life. It's totally ridiculous now, completely lawless. If you thought Bangla was wild in the past, I recommend checking it out now. Granted, I'm in my 30s so the experience might be slightly different for me. I was also shocked at how busy it was. Personally, I like the amount of people that are there now. Mostly locals but still a great time.

You're also forgetting one thing. Every other country on Planet Earth is also super boring right now. We are moving towards a clean, green, sanitized world where nobody leaves home and everyone works from home. That is sadly our future. So relatively speaking, Thailand will still remain exponentially more exciting and "fun" relative to Western nations that will become "super boring". Everything is relative my friend. I have many friends that are itching to get out of New York and over to Phuket as NYC is spiraling into the abyss. Same with friends in Los Angeles. They can't wait to get out of super-strict California. California is collapsing, mass exodus happening as we speak as the effective tax rate is being jacked up to 67% if/when Biden wins which seems likely. Many super wealthy California digital nomads now looking at Thailand ( I work for Google from Phuket and absolutely love it here so yeah, the Thailand dynamic is rapidly shifting and I personally think Phuket will become the next California, USA...yes sir...buy real estate in Phuket on this dip ). And I would argue that anyone that comes here is in for the time of their lives when they finally do get here. Thailand rocks and always will. Just my opinion though.

So you're a 30 year old, making Silicon Valley money while living in Phuket...  Sounds like a vision of the future of Thailand.  Wealthy spenders who only care about their own wants and needs.  I have to say, I see shades of this in the way things are going now.  I don't begrudge your position.  I came here years ago as a government employee and we experienced the same scenario.  Me and my co-workers made mad money (compared to the locals) there were few tourists and everyone catered to our every beck and call.  And by the way, that was the mid to late 1970s...  It's 2020, been living here for 20 years continuously and it is almost, almost still the same now.

Lol - maybe closer to the truth than they'd like to admit ?

Got to wonder how they missed the "billion" when they translated/copy/pasted from the original article (as it was there plain as day when I googlated it).

(Though one translation gives 250,000 million baht and the other says 250 billion. Either way, still better than "250 baht".)

Pattaya not having an International Airport on it's doorstep is a bit odd, considering that smaller places like Phuket do.
U-Tapao is/was a military airport that's being upgraded primarily to lower the (air) traffic in Bangkok, as they figure a large percentage of the arrivals are destined for Pattaya and the SE region anyways. A little far from Pattaya though.

Which is one reason why they've spent so much effort on upgrading the highways (7/36/331) and the U-Tapao airport as well as the talks about a highspeed link between Bangkok and Pattaya. The new highway 7 extension is pretty much custom built to get people to/from Pattaya from U-Tapao.

The other highways are partially a part of the EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor - basically the manufacturing "hub") and to improve traffic to/from the area from Isaan.

Got to think that one day (20+ years from now), Pattaya will have it's own international airport as it maintains it's fame as a "world class family resort that is primarily populated by single White males and dusky Isaan bar girls".

Though if it goes the other way and most of the tourists are Chinese/Indian/Russian, spending a whopping "250 baht annually" then there probably won't be much left of Pattaya for anyone to want to travel to !

Of course, I was absent-minded with my question, I knew it, with  non B no need for this insurance.

But me with my non O,  I did try without the insurance, it did not work, but they gave me  a little more time, I came in Thailand July 31th so for years my visa extension was logically due to July 30th, now my extension for the end of this year is due to August 3th.

By the way a good question to Ubonjoe, since in fact this year I have had an extension of 369 days, I thought it would have been impossible!

What do you mean "with my non O, I did try without insurance, it did not work,"?  Insurance is not required with a Non Imm - O.  Do you have an Non Imm O-A...Yes/No?  Either you're confused or you got your type of VISA/extension mixed up.

Has anybody on this thread asked for that?

I think that as someone who has been married to a Thai for over 30 years, has children and grandchildren living here, that I should have the right to lead a normal family life, with my family.

I would hope that the people looking over your documents would recognize the length of your marriage. Not sure they would be concerned as much with the rest of your family, but if you have resided here continuously for 30 years - trouble free - then maybe they'll take that into account when approving your extension.  If you're looking for more than that, I suggest you shouldn't be...we are not in the west.

I am about your size and weight. It can be uncomfortable going downhill for a longer stretch, sliding forward on the seat and more or less sitting on your nuggets.

I never had any plans doing touring, but now in this situation I might as well take the chance.

I do find it uncomfortable after a long time in the seat. I also have a bobber, much nicer seat comfort, but the Honda might be easier for parts.

I am always afraid, the bike getting stolen somewhere while staying overnight. A PCX might be better in that matter.

You say you have a bobber. What make/model/cc is the bike?

I'm paying cash outright for this vehicle if  it  has the 3  year warranty which has now been confirmed by Chevrolet.

At this  price I could  just about buy a secondhand one with no warranty and however many km's and maybe lack of maintenance.

I'm tempted to buy a Chevrolet. A local Kubota dealer just outside of Det Udom in Ubon Ratchathani Province on highway 24 has 4 on their lot, but they refuse to lower the price. They are 2019 models, very clean.

Better to buy new, you can even get 0% now...

Are you talking about 0% down financing. I not totally sure, but I think that is only for Thais - unless you have a work permit. And even then I wouldn't bet on that information.  Unless you've got some solid proof...

  12. Are you planning on financing or paying cash? If cash, then I would think a heavy discount would be in order without the 3 year 100k warranty.  So if the vehicle is worth 800000 then an equivalent of maybe 15 to 20 percent would be in order.  However failing this, I would walk away. A catastrophic failure problem after the 4 months - or discovering something that was covered up well could make you lose your investment. Personally I think buying a new Chevy Truck even thought Chevrolet is not in business here anymore, would be a way better deal...

Just got back from immigration and told after 7 years living here I have to leave the country before September 26th and do a border bounce and come back in as a tourist to get my Non O visa for retirement. Wouldn't it be better if you let those already living here to allow to change within the country?

Couldn't you at least told us how you existed here for the last 7 years - the story seems kind of incomplete. How did you do it, and what are the rest of the circumstances?

What you have in your screen shot actually wasn't working a few weeks ago when the Currency Meter went offline.

Seriously, I use XE dot com on a daily basis and I'd bet my paycheck it hasn't been down for more than a few minutes in the last 10 years or so...

And how long does it take to turn your computer on and bring up a web page?  Come on man!

Something tells me you've never been to the site - updates automatically every 60 seconds and the major currencies are all preloaded.

we've had virtual conferences, virtual festivals and virtual tours.

i think now is the time for the... Virtual Border Run!!

I agree. I applied and received my present VISA [Non-Imm O-A] entirely through the mail - obviously from within my home country.  My extension coming up in October could (if they really wanted to) be performed from the comfort of my house here in Thailand...the foot traffic is entirely unnecessary!

  16. I don't get you guys.  Many on here keep banging on about why they want tourists to leave.  Does it not occur to you that maybe you're not wanted here.  How about maybe, just maybe, they are tired of being called everything but a child of God and would just like to clean house.  Or, consider they don't care about the money you've spent or are spending.  There is no better time to reset expectations, and maybe massive tourism isn't in the cards anymore - it's been hinted many times over by the powers that be.

And, the incessant number of people calling this their "home" when anything short of permanent residence and/or Thai citizenship makes it so - in spite of the house, condo, car, truck, wife, children, swimming pool, and school tuitions you've perhaps paid for...

I realize this post was originally referring to Indonesia, but I just happen to be in Thailand, and it's the same story regardless.

i can do that, but it would require repeating the process five times, for the five currencies I like to monitor.

I don't get you guys, XE has a web page and most people have a browser window open most, if not all the time. You can pop your favorite currencies ( I have all the five major ones) into the window and it updates every 60 seconds. It doesn't get any easier than that!
