  1. Went back today with my landlord. After filling out some papers, and a 30 minute talk with the office boss, he was fined 1600 thb. He owns several properties, so whether he will be fined for each of them (or each tenant) I dont know.

He was told he could report online in the future, and got a pamphlet written in Thai, but the guy has never touched a PC, so that is not going to happen.

If you are already registered at your residence  you only have to go to immigration with your passport , new departure card and the old registration slip for and update.

I definitely got the impression, that the landlord had to be present every time (if not doing it online). Can anybody confirm, whether bringing him was just a one time thing, and I can just do the registration myself in the future?

  2. Went to the Patong office today to do my 90 day report, and was asked if I had registered my address. I informed them that was done 2 years ago in Phuket Town, reply was "has to do again, new rules from big boss". So I have to go back tomorrow with my landlord, and some more photocopies.

This is just meant as a heads up, as it is something relatively new (wasnt necessary 3 months ago), and isnt enforced everywhere, as far as I can tell.

Bonus info: I heard one of the immigration employees inform a foreigner that the address registration had to be done every time he came back to Thailand (he applied for a re-entry), and was living and working here (I assume he doesnt change address every time). I really hope she was just misinformed, otherwise they will be pretty busy making the same address registrations over and over.....

  3. Still being relatively young, old knees and mobility issues is hopefully a long way away :)
One thing that weighed against model E for me, was the monitor arm being fixed in place. I like that on model D I can store it away behind the flywheel, minimizing the risk of damaging it, when moving it around ( I have to assemble and disassemble it for each session).

Yes, I just saw the bikeErg as well. I was thinking of getting one of those stationary trainers you can attach a real bicycle to, but this might be a viable alternative.

  4. Just in case anyone would be interested, I contacted Concept2 about purchasing a rower, and they in turn had their sales representative in Malaysia get in touch with me.

I was quoted $970+80 (shipping), total $1050 for the model D and $1200+110, total $1310 for the model E, delivered to my door in Phuket. I went for model D, and with taxes added, it came to a total of about $1300.

Communication with the seller was very good, and I can only recommend them, if anybody else is looking to purchase a rower. Relatively hasslefree and MUCH cheaper than buying one locally.

  5. Just realized my TM6 is gone as well, pretty sure immigration misplaced during my last 90 day report 2 weeks ago (havent used my passport since). I dont have any plans to leave the country before extending my visa (non-o based on marriage). Could that cause problems with the extension?

  6. I was waiting for a correct income statement from my embassy (they misspelled my name the first time), so wasnt sure, I would be able to go tomorrow. But luckily I received it a short while ago.

If I get prevented from going tomorrow (sick kids or whatever), I will go the 4th instead. Paying a small overstay fine is no issue, I was more worried, if I could be denied the extension for applying for it, after expiration?

  7. Thank you for your answers. I assume you are happy with the school then :)

Was basically looking for any general good or bad experiences,

So far, I had only heard good things about Tantiwit, so we signed up our son, he started English Program P1 just a couple of days ago.

We we´re told that it would be 70% English and 30% Thai. Looking at the class schedule, I noticed that 9/30 classes were written as Math EP1, English EP1 etc, and the rest in Thai, So was wondering if we had been misinformed, and it is actually only 30% English and the rest Thai? I have been unable to get hold of anyone in the administration office that speak English, and when my wife inquire about it, the answer is along the line of "yes yes, 70/30 no problem".

  8. But I can be sure I will eventually be able to leave? I havent booked my hotel yet, due to the uncertainty.

You will need an official stamp in your paspsort giving you a new dat untill which you can stay in Thailand/your application is being considered. Otherwise there is nothing to base the re-entry permit on.

Yes, I know that I will need an official stamp, but is there a chance they say "too bad, if you wanna leave before your extension is complete, you will lose it"?

Its the uncertainty that frustrates me a bit.

  9. I have applied for a 1 year extension of my non-o visa, on the grounds of being married to a Thai and having Thai kids.

As according to the "under consideration" stamp, I returned to immigration Feb 2, but it wasnt ready yet, and was told to come back next week.

The thing is, I would like to leave Thailand this Friday Feb 6, if possible, due to a wedding invitation in the Philippines. I talked to an immigration officer, who told me, I should go home and book my plane ticket, and then come back, then it would be no problem, I would get a new valid stamp.

So I returned to immigration today, with a printout of my booking, but unfortunately the officer from yesterday wasnt present. So I explained the situation to another officer, and he consulted most of the staff present, and the final answer was "come back Thursday, maybe extension ready". I then tried to ask,if they would still be able to help me out, even if the extension was not ready, answer "come back Thursday". I guess they didnt know how to handle this situation, and was hoping the problem would go away by itself.

So unfortunately I was unable to get a straight answer, whether it will be possible for me to go or not.

Anybody have experience with this situation? Anything I can do? It is Phuket Immigration fwiw

  10. In case it wasnt clear from my OP, had I actually beleived that the staff would be punished, I would never make a problem out of it, for several reasons.

Forget about the delivery boy. The next time you order and try to use that food voucher, I would have a food taster on standby. BTW, how long have you been here? Back in the US, even Domino's doesn't have a 30 minute guarantee anymore.

Never piss-off the person preparing/delivering your food, or the person that cuts your hair. coffee1.gif

But thats just it, am I in any way pissing of the staff? or couldnt they care any less (assuming they are not deducted in salary)?

Post like this, makes me ashamed to be an expat!!bah.gif

Why? A big company set some standards for themselves and have a discount policy, if they fail to live up to those standards. I then choose to call them out on that policy.

  11. Yesterday I ordered pizzas for the family from 1112.com. The confirmation email stated that if the delivery time was longer than 30 minutes, we would receive a 400 baht voucher for our next purchase.

The pizzas came after 45 minutes, and being the stingy bas****, I decided to try it out.

I asked the delivery boy, and he asked me to call their hotline. Did that, and the girl at the other end just apologized, and said they were very busy in the weekend, and seemed to ignore anything else I said, so in the end I handed the phone to my wife.

She was then told, that if we complained about late delivery, to receive the 400 baht voucher, the delivery boy would be deducted 1000 baht in his salary, is there any truth to this?

I initially took it as a blatant lie (make the farang feel pity for us), so just insisted that it was not my problem.

Later on in the conversation they then told my wife, that the delivery boy would bring us the voucher, and we would then have to call back to the call center, saying everything was OK again, and then he would NOT have any salary reduction.

So in the end, who is paying for that voucher? Is the branch just taking that loss, or will they still somehow punish the staff? I have not once received the food within 30 minutes, and have ordered many times by now.
