  1. A friend of mine is here on a tourist visa, and discovered he had 8 days overstay, as he forgot to do the extension in time.

We went to Phuket Immigration, where he was allowed to have the extension, provided he paid for the overstay at the same time.

I was under the impression, that once the visa was overstayed, it was impossible to extend it?

I asked the farang information officer, and he said it had always been like that.

  2. Thank you for the reply. Yes, I live close by Shining Stars you refer to. Unfortunately, the minimum age is 2 years.

It doesnt have to be a pro company as such, a thai housewife, who does the job from her home will be just as fine, as long as the kids are looked after properly.

  3. Can anybody recommend a daycare center or similar in or somewhat close to Kamala,

My son is 14 months old.

It is not important whether the staff is thai or farang, as long as the safety for the kids is allright.

  4. I've been playing at the Laguna in Surin. Initially they wanted 350b/person, as it was considered a day pass to all their activities. But since me and my 2 friends were regular squash-customers, we were able to come to an arraingement, that we paid 350 in total, regardless if we played 2 or 3 persons.

There should also be a squashcourt in Patong, havent played there yet though.

    I guess I consider myself a beginner+... :)

  5. Recent addition to Phuket bicycle shops is "You Can bicycle" shop in Bangtao which is run by three local brothers all ride road bikes and do triathlon. They kind of do it as a hobby business in their spare time and after hours, as they all have jobs. Long rides often leave from there on a Sunday mornings. They are small but very friendly and reasonable prices and order in parts on request. They service road bikes and MTB, Chana is one of the owners and his contact number is 0898727802.

Where in Bangtao can I find this shop?

  6. @lopburi

In your first post you advised me to not do anything until I had my new passport. Do you still stand by that, or should I attempt to get my 90 day report approved and then later transfer the visa?

Or do you mean, that once I have my new passport, going to immigration will likely only result in a 2000 baht fine, and then the visa +extension can be transferred no problem?

    @ballbreaker

I will contact my embassy first thing monday, no matter what. The person handling the passports there, is aware that I have obtained a new passport, as he was the one who told me it had been forwarded to Phuket. So no matter what happens the embassy should be able to verify that I am the owner of a valid passport. I will be leaving for Denmark on the 10th of August, so just trying to figure out how to make this matter the least expensive possible. So in worst case, I can do some visa run until then, and then get a new visa in Denmark.

If I only end up having to pay 2000 baht fine for the 90 day report, I'm very happy.

  7. My passports natural expiration was June 16th.

The extension stamp clearly say "stay permitted up to 3 Jan 2011".

The original plan was to go back to Denmark (alone) before it expired. Due to problems in my wifes family, that trip was postponed, so instead I wanted to get it done in Bangkok, when applying for a visa for her and the kid. Due to the riots, we wouldn't leave for Bangkok, so ended up ordering the passport with the consulate. Normally I'm very much on top of these things, but different circumstances and having my mind elsewhere, I now only have myself to blame, I know that.

On my first talk with the consul, he sais it wouldn't be a problem transferring the visa. I have just recived another email from him, stating that doing the 90-day report a couple days late normally isnt a problem. I told him that I'm gonna be more than 9 days late (2 days outside the window), but there is a chance he misunderstood me.

Either way he says, that if I have problems with immigration, I should refer them to him.

I'm still not sure whether I might run into problems doing the 90-day report? What if they discover it's an expired passport? I know they don't care (dont take action) if they know about people have overstay, but this might be more serious.

If the worst that can happen is they send me off again, I can try do the 90-day report, and then later, perhaps with the assistance of the consul, try to transfer the visa+extension. Either way, I'm gonna make sure the embassy can verify that I am the holder of a valid passport (though not in my possession), if problems should arise.

  8. My permitted to stay is untill beginning January 2011.

The passport arrived before the old one expired, and I was told by the consul that even if I didnt get the new one in time, that wouldn't be a problem. Apparently that was wrong?

Unfortunately I wasn't informed that I wouldn't be able to receive my new passport for some time, due to his travel plans.

    @beano

Agree, that I messed up. A trip to Bangkok was planned for some time, but the riots in the embassy area made me suspend it.

So if I end up going to immigration after I get my new passport, I guess they don't know that for a number of days I did not have a valid passport? In which case I will "only" be fined for missing the 90 day report? How much is that fine?

Will it do me any good if I get a statement from the consul, that due to his travelling I am unable to obtain my passport, untill he return (3 days after the 90-day report window closes)?

Edit: Or a statement from the embassy, that they have forwarded the new passport, even though I havent been able to receive it yet?

  9. Mu passport expired June 16th. I ordered a new one, and it was sent to the Danish consul in Phuket a few days before the old one expired. The problem is he is currently travelling in Europe, So I havent been able to receive my new passport yet.

I have to do 90-day report on 26th of june. I believe there is a 7-day window, so I can do it the 3rd of July at the latest. However, the earliest possible I can get my new passport is the 6th of july.

Is it gonna be a problem for me, doing 90-day report with an expired passport?

  10. In my passport the 90 notification is stamped together with the final approval, thats why I mistakenly assumed it was from that day.

Thank you for your swift reply, I am on my way to immigration :)

    @Lite beer

Ah OK, So I can be 7 days late if need be? Well, gonna get it settled today, just to make sure. I can get the form at the immigration office as well, I assume?

  11. I went to the immigration office December 30th 2009 to get a 1-year extension on my non-o visa. I got the "under consideration" stamp saying I had to come back Feb 2 2010, which I did, and I got the full extension untill Jan 3rd, 2011.

However it just occurred to me, do I have to do the 90 day report based on my application date December 30th, or the day it was approved Feb 2nd?

If the former I will have to go to the immigration office today. What should I bring in order to do the residence notification? Pictures, rental contract, money etc??

  12. The tabien baan is not unheard of, to check if the misses officially lives there. Many Thais don't live where they are registered, but in case of an extension based on marriage it can be a problem if the misses doesn't live where she is registered.

Where she is registered will decide where you have to apply for the extension and where they will check. Some immigration offices are more understanding than others in this regard.

No, they wanted the tabien baan for the house we live in (rent form another thai), NOT my wifes tabien baan. Well, they wanted my wifes tabien baan too, but I made a copy af that allready.

I am in the same situation getting ready for my first extension and have most of the paperwork in hand 1 question (house map) what type of map is rrequired?

    Thanks for the help

I just did a hand drawn map, and it was fine.

  13. 1. Application form T.M. 7 with one photograph size 4x6 cm. and Visa Fee 1900.-Baht

    2. Copy of passport ( with certified true copy ) 2 copy

    3. Marriage Certificate 2 copy

    4. Wife's house registration 2 copy

    5. Wife's identity card 2 copy

    6. bank guarantee, signed with the bank manager i pick it up in the bank 1 day before

    7. updated bankbook (updated on the same day as the bank guarantee paper), showing more than 400.000 (more than 3 month)

    8. plenty of photos: front of the house where we live, inside, from our travels...etc...

    2. Copy of photo page, visa page and entry/permit to stay stamp page. Add copy of TM6 departure card. (1 copy is enough) Just sign each copy that is what certification means.

3 to 5 Wife signs all of these and you also sign marriage certificate (it has you name on it). (only one copy needed)

    7. Need copies of bank book pages also signed. Best to get an update on the day you go to immigration.

    8. No need for your travels and etc. Just you and the wife in and around the house and under or near the house (or room) number.

    Map to house.

Edit: You will also need copy of marriage registration Papers (Kor Ror.3) from the Amphoe where you registered your marriage. This something new that Bangkok has been asking for.

I went to Phuket Immigration today, to get my extension. They also required Tabien Baan of the house we live in as well as rental contract. Is this normal?

  14. I am currently using CAT, and am overall satisfied with them.

Occasionally, they do lose connection though, and in then I would like some sort of backup.

I previously used CSLox, but I have no telephone lines in the house where I live now, so that is not an option.

I then saw an ad from Big C, selling this Aircard

    http://gadget.siamphone.com/main.php?modul...;new_id=NW00857

    http://www.isystemonline.com/product.detai...2535693?lang=en

    (same product, 2 different reviews).

Will this cover my need? As far as I can tell, it is connected to DTAC, so even though CAT may be offline, I should still be able to get a signal, right? Or are they insome way connected/running on the same network?

Do you have any other suggestions?

  15. I have previously made a post regarding the requirements on getting a Non-o based on marriage. However as the paperwork have dragged out, including a letter getting lost in the mail, the marriage have yet to be registered. However, my girlfriend gave birth to my kid in the meantime, so my next visa will be based on that.

    So the questions:

I will be going to Penang. Should that be any problem? I assume they only done a crackdown on touristvisas, but want to make sure.

I will bring the birth certificate. Original? Or is a photocopy enough?

Financial proof? I can get a statement from my European bank, will that do any good? Also I have made a bank transfer that will arrive a couple of days before, will that be sufficient? Or do they not accept it, if it haven't been in the account for a period of time?

    2 passport photos.

Anything else, I should be bring or be aware of?

Will I be getting a multi-entry Non-o (3 month??) normally, or is the standard a single entry?

If I later want to do an extension, is the requirements the same as extension based on marriage?

  16. If you convert your Tourist Visa to a Non-O in Thailand then you will need to show your financial documents. You will need more than 21 days left on your current permitted to stay stamp to do it.

It doesn't matter where you and your wife live as they will visit your address and not the address of the TB that she is lited on

Edit: Oops, I was beaten to it.

Sorry to bring this old topic up again, but one quick question:

Does the 21 days remaining include an extension to my tourist visa? Or is it only for the original visa?

  17. So, you're from the EU.

If you don't want to be tax liable at all, you keep your danish passport, go to your local office in Danmark, cancel your Denmark adress, don't have any income in Denmark any more, don't have assets there, don't stay longer then half a year plus one day in Denmark a year, open a bank account in, for example, Liechtenstein, stay in Thailand and don't have income in Thailand, then you are, at the moment, tax free everywhere.

Would I be doing anything illegal in doing so?

  18. Maybe there is no set rules, and maybe very different from country to country.

I am a Danish citizen, living in Thailand. I'm trying to find out how to optimize my investments, and therefore have some tax questions.

Am I tax liable in Thailand, for interest gained from bank accounts?

What if I bonds through my Thai bank?

If I open a bank account in say Hong Kong, and start trading equities, to which country would I have to pay tax?

And with all that being asked, any recommendation for what setup (what bank/country/trading platform etc) would be mosty profitable?

  19. Can anybody recommend a good doctor to talk to about an ingrown nail?

I've been suffering from it for a long time, and have had surgery on other toes some years ago for the same problem. About 6 month ago I went to Patong Hospital, where they cut off a piece of the nail, but now that it has started to grow back, the syptoms seem to come back.

I could go to the hospital again, and have them perform a slightky bigger surgery, but as I know the pain and recovety time after, I hope to find some alternatives.

EDIT: It is of course a FOOT doctor I'm looking for, but I cant edit the title.

  20. I'm about to move in to a new house, and was wondering whether an aircon would be worthwhile.

I'll be using a room on first floor as "office" (I spend a lot of time in front of the computer), but the room is open down to the living room. I've attached a picture taken from 1st floor hope fully to bette rillustrate what I mean.

My question is, with the room being open like that, will an aircon give me anything but a big electricity-bill? I assume it would be working overtime, as it would try to cool down basically the entire house.

Is a fan my best option?
