What about the 15% withholding tax?
-
Hi
It is not true that as a UK non resident you are unable to open a UK Bank Account. I previously opened an account with LloydsTSB while resident here in Thailand. However as they have recently imposed a 20GBP a month charge I have in the past two months opened an account with the CO 0p Bank on Guernsy and have found their service to be excellent.
You can rhen either get them to make a wire transfer for 13 pounds or use withdrawals via an ATM.
Norfolkboy
1. Guernsy banks are offshore banks
2. What residential address did you put on opening a Lloyds / Tsb account? Assuming it was a UK mainland bank account.? not offshore IOM etc

Errmm... correct me if I am wrong, but every other Thai Visa post I have read has stated that the booze ban is until midnight tomorrow - not 6 p.m.
Can someone please clarify?
Saw the 'flyer' in Jomtien at 4.30 pm No booze from 6pm today (Sat) till midnight Sunday.

On a housing commitee ( not condo) what is the minimum and maximum numbers allowed? Are the numbers advisory or are they the legal limits?i.e. no more and no less. Many thanks
-
Not an answer I know - I went to the Pattaya Office to explain I had a new passport and did I need a new license to reflect the change of number? Answer up to you. I asked did I legally have to change it and the same reply - Up to you. TIT
Unless you need it for proof of address etc, I would leave it untill renewal.

Phew! At last we can sleep safe in our beds at night - well done BIB.

Yes, a Thai national can travel back to her own country on an expired passport.
She cannot leave Thailand on an expired passport and to get a new passport she needs to be registered on a houshold registration in Thailand. For the rest it will only take a couple of days to recieve a new Thai passport.
Applying for a Thai passport in London will take longer.
Mario where does it actually say that?

Misinformation Alert!
..... Always do you own research
These bonds are available to anybody on the globe over the age of 7, and those under that age can have bonds purchased for them. Up to 15,000 quid can be invested in both the index linked and the fixed rate bonds. I would only be interested in the index linked bonds.
If you are living abroad you need to go through the "money laundering" hoops.

Live outside the UK?We can't make electronic checks outside the UK so you need to send us a certified copy* of certain documents for all persons named on the application who live outside the UK. These documents are:- their current passport or official identity card;
- and a letter or notification from their local tax authority, which must be dated within the last three months and include their name and current address
The last requirement will be a sticking point for me, I have emailed them and asked about possible alternatives.
I assume you are referring to my post. I would not want to confuse potential investors like PattayaParent so I will clarify with the following.
The NSANDI website at the bottom of the page says ' This website is intended for residents of the UK Channel Islands and the Isle of Man'
If you click on the ''site conditions and legal conditions of use'' the first paragraph says:
''By using this website which is intended for residents of the UK Channel Islands and the Isle of Man only you have confirmed that you are a resident.''
The next paragraph goes on to say what to do if you do not live in any of the above - let us now how you get on. Looks too difficult for me.
-
The website also says ( at the bottom of the page) - only for residents of the UK, Channel Islands and the IOM.

I think the limit is the amount of 'notes' they issue. Bangkok Bank ATM only issue 25 so the single limit would be B 25000.( assuming it was filled with B1000 notes) If the ATM only has B 500 notes you will only get B12500.

Not much work, if any ,seems to be going on - anyone with any news?

He uses Pattaya ( Chonburi) office- IMO it is only helpful if you use that office.

Its Pattaya Immigration. They are pretty friendly usually, especially the girls at the front desk. I hate not knowing exactly what is required for any of my applications - whether it be for my annual visa extension, re-entry permit, driving licence renewal letter etc.. So I know the 90 day report is a simple process, but I would still appreciate knowing exactly what is required to avoid being 'messed' around by any 'jobsworth' with a hangover or in a bad mood. I particularly refer to that guy on the front desk, who seems to 'snarl' at a lot of people, but seems to have taken a massive dislike to me !!!
If anyone could tell me exactly what copies of passport or whatever is needed it would be appreciated.
thanks ...
In Pattaya you only need your :
1.Passport
2. Completed 90 day form
3. Proof of residence - this went away for a while but someone reported it had returned. I duly provided a copy of my driving license and he attached it with the paperwork ( he did not look at it)
-
I think 2 months before is no problem. Latest reports suggest 3 months is ok if you give reason. Travel etc.

I am always amazed that people suddenly find the passport is full. Dont you notice when you have 6,5,4,3,2,1, pages left?
-
Have not been but it is every Saturday at Big C South - it is only for road tax renewals. For 100 Baht AA insurance will do it for you while you shop/ eat lunch.
It is on the second floor - cant be too difficult to find.

Residents want to call an extraordinary meeting - how many residents do we need to request one? Any other info would be welcome.
-
Can only speak for Jomtien - they allow joint accounts for extensions based on Bht 65000 or more per month. They require a copy of Thai marriage certificate. Dont know about the 800000 in bank route though.

Our village has a swimming pool owned by the developer and they want us to pay all cleaning, maintenance and electric bill costs. It is on land ( including the swimming pool) that we as residents do not and never will own . We will never own the swimming pool either. It belongs to the developer. It is only used by 2- 3 people as most residents have there own pool. Can they insist we pay?

You get a letter from your Embassy / Consul. If you are British the Consul in Soi 5 will do the letter. You pick it up next day. It is free!!
Ooops! I expect you have the letter and want something else .Sorry

Whilst not an expert, a colleague made arrangements to add a loop on his European business trip specifically to avoid these timing issues. He flew into London, and had an appointment, which he booked prior, at the IPS office there under the one day premium service and had his new 'jumbo' 48 page passport in @ 5 hours, flying out next day to Switzerland and thence back to SE Asia. The fee was @ 150 GBP IIRC.
It was expensive after adding in flights, hotel accommodation etc. [though claimable as a business expense against tax], but was worth it from a peace of mind perspective. Once everything reverts to UK processing, assuming I'm not out of pages before then [i've never expired, only filled my passports] I'd look at this alternative myself.
Regards
PS Just to add, if you are planning on returning to the UK, the one day or one week services are available at the various passport offices in the UK, not just London.
Why 'peace of mind'--- In the end you send a copy of your passport to Hong Kong with the additional requirements and they send you a new passport back. In about 10 days .Easy I would say.
