  1. If enemies of the western allies carried this kinda stuff out it would be widely condemned and i'm sure considered a war crime. I find it quite frightening and horrific that our side carried on this practice. Don't POWs have rights...just curious is all.

There's no such thing as a clean war. War crimes are carried out in all conflicts. Take the British; unlike the US (who are relatively newcomers) have a long and dark past, Africa, over a 100 years ago; saw the first concentration camps for the Boars, who suffered starvation and maltreatment.

North,South and Central America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East; all have a dirty history in regard to torture and brutalization. Many behaved this way not just with POW's but with many of their own citizens.

By heal you mean forget ? or still remember but without anger. I think most people have forgotten and moved on but images of Hitler being used inappropriately brings it back to people . I wasn't walking around my house on Wednesday Morning getting angry about the Rise of Hitler. But a crass, ill thought out image of him in a Government educational film (Of which my children would have had to watch) got me a bit riled, If I see some 45kg man-child parading around in Nazi regalia , I'd just think he was a bit of a retard , but when a government do something so crass , you have to think what on Earth are they doing

Perfectly normal, and I agree. You know what I do when this happens? I turn off the TV and go play with my son and think about the future. His future, and the joy I take in it for helping me to forget the past.

Ye[ I should ignore it, Ive had couple of months (voluntarily) off work, think I need to go back I'm getting outraged on a daily basis

Prince Harry got short shrift from the British media for his crass use of Nazi regalia, and rightly so. It's hard to forget 60 million dead.

  3. Neither , the P.M. should be selected from the leader of the winning party ,if either the PTP or Democrats or who ever win the elections , the leader of that party is the PM, after all the voters generally vote for the charismatic leader or the party machine , having said this, you can have a spill where by some other person from the successful party can challenge for top spot and a secret ballot is then taken, where you have a conflict is where you have inexperienced newcomers (Yingluck) coming into the PM job, this can be overcome by stipulating a PM must have a period of 5 years as a senior MP in the party, the leader is only as powerful as the members allow, as you have a cabinet vote, then it is taken to the party room and all members of Parliament then vote on issues, say as the introduction of high speed rail network and is passed 26 to 24 it means the PM has 24 in the room against him, not like the Prayuth transparencycoffee1.gif

It's immaterial in Thailand, there is no independent judiciary and the military run the country either directly or through their puppets.

  4. I hope they remember to tell the defendants so they can be there this time.

Yes, it's probably brought forward so that it is completed before the UK inquest gets going.

Guilty, executed and forgotten. mai pen rai

The inquest will be opened & adjourned whilst the trial proceeds; thereafter the verdict will be unlawful killings by person or persons unknown if there's a not guilty verdict.

  5. "Who is also a local coordinator of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD)"

Pull the other one, mate, you have noooooo idea why the soldiers took away your products.

Just disappointed they didn't take you in for some "correction" that you badly need.

You a fascist supporter? "Correction" for political prisoners usually meant either a bullet (for the lucky ones), or ending up in a concentration camp & then worked/starved to death.

  6. just what is the importance of having national carriers ? for instance British airways as far as i know has been a pain /cash guzzling loss maker for years i just don't get it why do governments worldwide keep bailing out these dinosaurs

i hope someone can give me the reasons

BA's a PLC, nothing to do with the government.

  7. Are we allowed to discuss this? Surely this is the British people's skeletons. It doesn't serve well to point.....

As a Brit myself we don't give a toss who talks about what, we leave that to the countries who restrict you from speech, we just don't care
I'm a Brit. I thought all the other Brits would have caught the irony.

We Brits are free to choose to catch or drop the irony as we see fit!

  8. "Perceptions that Thailand is a cheap destination needs to change"

A plan of great genius there from the Ministry of Tourism that the can convince more people to come if they think it is more expensive here....

But that 'I hate Thailand' video made Thailand seem so appealing to the floppy haired, back packery student types. What's with all the mixed messages? blink.png

Of course the smart thing to do would be to cater to BOTH markets, budget and luxury, and I guess something in between.

Because the likes of Jungle Jim doesn't like the grungy look or backpacker despite it not even being his country!!

Thailand needs tourists doesn't matter about their social status it's all about what revenue they spend at the end of the day.

People like Jim forget that they're pretty much nobody's in Thailand but think they're somebody!!

Just about anybody in LOS who isn't Thai is looked down upon, all you have to do is just stop the cash flow to see what they think of non Thai's.

  9. For those who still think this is a crackdown on corruption consider the original source of the news. Don't you think the NCPO and the PM would want to take credit for this if it was primarily about removing corruption?

I have done a little independent reading myself. It is one of those occasions I am grateful my passport has 'United Kingdom' on the cover.

To be able to give the incumbents of No 10 the boot every now and then (even if the other lot leave a lot to be desired) does give me some satisfaction. An option the Thai's have never really had.

  10. Why isn't the dear General going after all those in the military who have made large sums charging for promotions? It's exactly the same process. How did dear leader get to the top and make so much money from being a soldier. If he is serious about corruption then open all the doors and not protect yourself and your little group of close friends.

Love seeing corruption being cleaned up but don't exclude your own.

They might end up with corporal's running the police/army in order to overcome corruption (going by Germany's experiance with a corporal in charge), god help them!
